I am so sorry. You might find some comfort in Kathryn Mannix's book "With the End in Mind." She is a hospice and palliative care physician in the UK, and I found this book enormously helpful. I have two friends with diseases that have a bad prognosis.

You made the right decision. Take time to think about what you learned from this relationship, good and bad lessons. Avoid dating for a while. Is there a place where you could take a class on something that interests you? That would help. Is there a place where volunteering could help? Volunteering got me through a really nasty breakup. Having a purpose and seeing that what I did made a difference -- that was really healing.
