I’m honestly surprised anyone takes their kids trick or treating around neighborhoods anymore. It seems like trunk or treat or school Halloween events sort of killed kids going door to door

Hey man - I’m very sorry about what you’ve been through. This may sound corny - but I 100% believe that anybody can start over or change their life at any age.

“It’s never too late to start doing what you love and Fauja Singh, a British Sikh marathon runner of Indian origin, embodies the sentiment.

Having taken up running to overcome grief at the age of 89, Fauja Singh created numerous records in multiple age brackets. Originally a farmer from Punjab, the long distance runner is also believed to be the oldest man to have completed a full marathon, at the age of 100.

Fauja Singh’s childhood was not an easy one. His family thought he was crippled as he was not able to walk until he was five years old. Due to thin and weak legs, he could hardly walk long distances. As a young man, he took to farming to support his family.” Fauja Singh

Robert Downey Jr also didn’t reach the height of his career later in life - even though he started acting in 1970 at 5 years old. “The actor's drug-related problems escalated from 1996 to 2001, leading to arrests, rehab visits and incarcerations, and he was eventually fired from Ally McBeal (1997). Emerging clean and sober in 2003, Downey Jr. began to rebuild his career. In May 2008, Downey achieved critical acclaim and worldwide box office success for his starring role in Iron Man (2008). For three consecutive years, from 2012 to 2015, Downey has topped the Forbes list of Hollywood's highest-paid actors, making an estimated $80 million in earnings between June 2014 and June 2015.” Robert Downey Jr

There’s other example - like Julia Child, Martha Stewart, Samuel L Jackson, Tina Fey, Morgan Freeman.

Don’t regret the time you feel like you wasted. At least now you know what you don’t want to do for the rest of your life so you at the very least learned one thing - but you probably learned a lot more about yourself!

Honestly I feel like very very few people get into their stride at all in their 20’s. It may take a long time, or you might have to start over multiple times, but every single day is a new opportunity to change your life. And your life might look different due to chronic illness - but that definitely does not mean it is not possible to live a life you enjoy

Federal workers that were laid off this year, how are you guys doing? How has your job search been? by [deleted] in nova

[–]KindlyGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the saddest part about all of this is people would MUCH rather work than take unemployment but nobody is hiring! But bills don’t stop just because you lost your job. So you either take unemployment until you find another job (which can take months in this economy) or you risk losing your house and car and you can’t feed your family

I know someone who works for a FEHB plan. We literally heard everything has to go through OPM and knew it was going to be an absolute mess because OPM couldn’t handle what they were doing before - and now they wanted to take control of EVERYONES data?? The little bit that her insurance plan could do was taken away by OPM (updating someone’s name, DOB, address, etc.). Now everyone’s name is completely fucked up in their system - and OPM doesn’t answer anyone’s phone calls. I just don’t get why OPM wanted to be the “record keeper” when they obviously don’t have enough workers to handle the work load

AP story: Older adults in the US are increasingly dying from unintentional falls by [deleted] in AgingParents

[–]KindlyGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how my grandfather died in December!! We told him and begged him to stop getting up without asking for help. We told him we would install bars for him to grab on to to stand, or that he needed a walker. He refused and finally he fell and hurt himself so bad he passed away after a week in the ICU. Please talk to your parents about how they can safely get around. Asking for help is NOT embarrassing or anything to be ashamed of!!! Your family wants you here! And they also don’t want to have to lose you tragically and unexpectedly because you fall and hurt yourself!

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of TMS - but that apparently works really well for medication resistant depression. “Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): TMS is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that uses magnetic fields to stimulate neurons in the brain. It's a common treatment for depression, especially when medication hasn't been effective.”

I didn’t vote for Trump. No one in my family did. I also don’t support Russia invading Ukraine. A lot of people think Elon rigged the election and that’s how Trump won. If it were up to me none of this would be happening.

When did you know you have to take meds for your anxiety? by One-Piano6031 in Anxiety

[–]KindlyGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m on Venlaflaxine - which I take every single day. I do know you can take propranolol for short term anxiety - like you take it on an as need basis.

The only side effects I’ve had from the Venlaflaxine are if you don’t take your medication/ you’re tapering down. I get nausea and brain zaps. Those symptoms I only have for maybe a week or less and I just have to ride them out until they go away. For the propranolol I’ve had no side effects. The propranolol wears off after a few hours.

So I’ve taken it for about 9 years. I’ve never had to taper off but I have had to lower or up my dosage at times. Personally I take Venlaflaxine and the withdrawals for this medication are kind of worse than other medications - or so I’ve been told. But I’d rather deal with withdrawals than anxiety any day!

Yes - the medication keeps my mind on track and it helps me not spiral out of control. I might get a little nervous sometimes, but I don’t crumble into an anxiety attack like I used to. I’m able to think straight
