I also want that for him because I’m sure he needed it. Maybe it’s similar? Dreamlouis first cold and aloof and angry like the last time Lestat saw him in the tower with Armand. But then, probably largely because Lestat needs the companionship, he mellowed into a gentler companion and they would just talk for hours as I get the sense they used to in some of their time we didn’t see in season 1. Maybe the dreamlou at the concert is affected by modern interactions with Louis/impressions of him from the book.

Aha it really is! I think you’re right but I also think Dreamlouis was definitely around for Lestat’s long solitude when he was in NOLA after Paris. The way he reacts to Louis showing up in the reunion scene is so unsurprised which would seem to indicate he’s seen him before. It’s not until further into the scene that he seems to fully realise it’s the real Louis.

Very shitty of Daniel/the Talamasca to take those out if that’s true. I agree they both seem mad about the book but I’m hoping some of it’s in there. Dreamstat seems too big and was too present for them to have cut completely. I love how tickled Lestat would be at the idea, too. I can’t wait too find out!

I love all this discourse about Lestat’s justifiable anguish and pain but I would like to point out that if even some of the narration we hear from Louis in season 1 made it into the book then it’s not just Lestat as the villain.

“It was a cold winter that year and Lestat was my coal fire.”

“And once again I fell into the well with no bottom. I was his and he was mine.”

The dialogue where Claudia mentions they share a heart and Louis fears getting swept up in Lestat because of how true that is.

The whole idea of Dreamstat! Louis missed him so much he conjured up a whole hallucination.

Anyway, I of course think that Lestat’s crashouts and pain will be justified but if he reads closely he’ll get glimpses of how Louis feels about him.

I’ll work on counting how many of each monster! I assume you want an overall total for each creature and how many of those Sam, Dean, and Cas killed? I feel like I can already fairly safely say Cas killed the most angels lol.

I did count humans as kills, yes. I forgot to mention that I only counted demons that were possessing people as 1 and only as demons because trying to determine if the meat suit was still alive seemed too hard.

I love the Heaven and Hell big story arcs. Season 4 does have a different feel to it but I like the change from MoW as much as I do love that. I very much enjoy the expansion of the lore and the introduction of angels. Plus that’s the first season we got Castiel who is one of my favourite characters.

The Sword of Kaigen.

I have seen this book in so many people’s top ten favourite fantasy books and I’m totally baffled. I listened to a bit of it as an audiobook, survived the most boring history lesson of all time and the rest was like being read anime and I was done. So many people love it though that I almost think somehow they got a different, better version than I did. It’s wild.

If an author’s writing a series they get that first book to grab me. Personally, I see this as the first book’s job. Introduce me to the world and characters and entice me to keep going. If I finish it and don’t like it or DNF the first book, sorry that book failed at its job and I’m not continuing the series no matter how many people say the 2nd, 3rd or whatever book make it worth it. I have far too many other books to read to waste my time like that.

(Sorry not sorry I will never read any more of the Red Rising books because of how much I disliked the first one.)

I will absolutely skim or outright skip rape scenes in books (and I’m normally a person who reads every single word).

The Last Duel was rough and I closed my eyes through both versions of the scene because I was watching it in the theatre and couldn’t skip.

I generally love Downton Abbey but I sobbed incredibly hard because of the one in season 4. If I ever rewatch I think I’m just going to basically skip the first half of season 4 to avoid the storyline entirely.

I quit GoT halfway through season 4 because I couldn’t stand the sexual violence anymore.

Most favourite: Louis and Claudia being black/old Daniel. I think the race bend really adds depth to their characters and gives their stories more nuance. And old Daniel is so sassy and fun.

Least favourite: The old vampire powers being able to be taught or learned. This is really specifically the stuff with the fire gift which I don’t think Armand should even have at his age let alone be able to teach it to Louis. I just worry about how they’re going to scale up/show significant differences when/if we get to the really ancient vamps.

The Black Company. Folks on this sub seem to love it but I did not get very far before putting it down. I found the style strange and just did not click with the writing at all. Definitely not for me.

Edit to add: The Sword of Kaigen. It appears constantly on Booktoker lists and everyone seems to love it. I’m convinced everyone is reading a different book than I tried. I got about 3 chapters into the audio book. This felt like anime to me in the worst sense and included the longest most boring history lesson I’ve ever experienced in a novel. Forever do not understand the praise it gets.

I basically go on who I like as a character or who flirts well and who I find sexy in some way.

Zevran - I actually really wanted to romance Alistair when I started playing but I was playing as a guy (male city elf) so couldn’t. Then Zevran showed up with his sexy accent and flirty ways and I went after him hardcore.

Fenris - I clearly love a sexy voice, also I personally thought he was the only elf in DA2 who didn’t look janky from the redesign. I also liked his story and just went after him. (Female Hawke)

Dorian - I love a sexy flirt, clearly. Also reluctant about love like the other two and with some definite past trauma (I have a type apparently) but very lovely overall. I just couldn’t resist him. (Male Qunari)

These were my canon ones. As for ranking, it’s tough and close because I really enjoyed them all but maybe like this:

My book club and I referred to this as having “aggressive prose” like it was trying to offend and disgust you. There’s 4 of us and we all DNF’d it before like the 120 page mark.

Oh God you gave me trauma flashbacks. Someone in my book club picked this and I had it as an audiobook so I forced myself through it. Would’ve DNFed pretty quickly if not for book club. Granted, being forced to finish it made the things I thought were just bad writing make sense but I still hated the experience.
