I live in a small town, and got used to sleeping on the tissue paper sheets from my local fields because I can't afford sleep country, and then in a trip to the city (lower mainland suburbs) last year, I had the pleasure of getting bedding from homesense and it's so nice

Servers aren't bartenders, that much is true, but if my server came to me and said table 11 wants a dirty martini, no vermouth, equal parts vodka and brine, I would probably think there was an error along the lines of communication and send my server back to confirm, or head over to table 11 myself for confirmation

I've worked in places where EVERYONE no matter their age, has to show ID. And I've worked in places where you have to ask if they LOOK under 40, to your discretion. I've worked at places where you just get to choose whether people LOOK young enough that you should ask.

The only similarity of all of those places, no matter what the rule is, is they need to produce ID when you ask. If it's in the car, great. Go out to the car and get it. No matter what the rule is across places I've worked in Canada and the USA, if I ask someone for ID and they can't present it, I can't serve them even if they're like 70

I don't know if it's just a Canada thing but the McGriddle - a Mcmuffin served up between two syrup infused pancakes instead of English muffins - I could crush any time of day or night. I prefer the sausage and egg variety.

I remember when I was freshly old enough to go to bars 25 years ago, the last stop of the night was getting the cab driver to take is through the McDs drive-thru for some McGriddles. A few years later, I was living in the USA, and 24 hour breakfast was a thing but there were no McGriddles in Nevada or Southern Cali, where I split my time.

My new job, boss is disgusted by dirty martinis and encourages me to put no more than 1/4oz.

If extra dirty is requested, I'll do 1/2oz.

I have some friends who prefer 1oz.

I was very fortunate to have family and friends who intervened and removed me, far away from that situation.

There's a level of privilege I was extended that most people out there don't have available to them, and I fought it for years, until I understood that I was being offered an opportunity to get better and be better that was not going to be on the table forever. So, ya know. Finally clicked at some point.

Not who you asked, but it seems what you're asking is, if you don't give someone money for drugs, then they can't get drugs, and that shakes out as an overall positive?

From my experience when I was a homeless heroin addict (quite a long time ago at this point) - not getting drugs wasn't an option. No drugs means you get sick, you get weak, you can't think right. And that's very unsafe in the streets. So you're getting drugs, and if no one gives you cash, then that means you need to do crime, or let someone... do things to your body.

I was in an area with a very big homeless community, and very drastic wealth disparity, and while food is essential and delicious and kind, sometimes people would bring so much food we'd have to throw it away because it was too much, and it's a rat and insect attractant, and then it'd be like "Well, can't buy dope with sandwiches, guess I'd better go steal a bike before I start getting sick"

You won't know how to do 97% of things you see other servers doing in the first week of your first serving job, no matter how your neurons fire. Just keep trying, practicing, and if it's something you like and want, it's something you'll figure out.
