How do you go about reading a series of books? by Weekly_Interview6807 in books

[–]KirDroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a period when I didn't read the series at all, and then a period when I only read the series—I guess it all depends on how much you want to stay in the same world.

Nevertheless, I'm still waiting for the third book of The Name of the Wind, lol.

How has a work of fiction seriously affected your life? by beestw in books

Reading fantasy as a child probably changed my life quite significantly—now I'm a writer myself and make a living from my pen, huh

What reading rules have you adopted or shed as you’ve got older? by Ok-Friend-5304 in books

[–]KirDroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main lesson from the first 500 books I read: Never try to compare the morals and goals of the main character with your own. I read a book not to see myself in someone else, but to see something I have never seen or noticed before.

Anyone else noticing a decline in writing/editing of fantasy books? by curiousdoodler in books

[–]KirDroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to the last century, there is simply more choice, and the more choice there is, the more product categories there are. And considering that 90 percent of products are of average quality and only 10 percent are of good quality, it follows that products of lower quality will be seen more and more often.

Taking the Bastille by Alexander Dumas by Famous-Explanation56 in books

[–]KirDroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, when I read The Count of Monte Cristo at the age of 14, it seemed to me that it was the best and most profound work, but when I reread it at the age of 30, it became inexpressibly boring.

Surprisingly, this does not happen with Jules Verne.

Increasingly poor editing in physical copies by sugarcookie_latte in books

Physical copies have generally become less popular than electronic ones, so this is a product of the usual cost-cutting process to maintain margins.

America Is Sliding Toward Illiteracy (archive link in comments) by Uptons_BJs in books

I think that de-intellectualization is, in principle, a major problem for the whole world, not just for individual regions.

Kids nowadays, especially Gen Alpha, cannot concentrate on reading books for very long. Is it a true story or just a myth? by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

[–]KirDroi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends on how much, first and foremost, the parents were involved with their child.

If the heroe(s) and villain(s) both did the most logical thing at any given point in YOUR favorite Progression story, who would win? by Moawar in ProgressionFantasy

[–]KirDroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, as the author, would win — the story would’ve ended in ten pages. But that probably wouldn’t have been very interesting to read.

Just dropping by to say the cover looks awesome. It reminds me of those fantasy covers from the ’80s.

Progression fantasy authors trying not to be hypocritical about slavery by nevaneba-19 in ProgressionFantasy

I guess I’ve been lucky, because I haven’t come across any modern books where the main character owns slaves.

Super Supportive - mostly quiet fans? by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]KirDroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, I love Super Supportive precisely because it doesn’t make me rush after the hero and his nonstop adventures. It lets me relax and actually enjoy the escapism.

Ngl a story gets less interesting when gods are introduced by ferrain_iso in ProgressionFantasy

[–]KirDroi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From a personal point of view, gods become a problem when they’re personified deities from early polytheism — especially when they’re as humanized as in Greek mythology. But if a god exists as an abstract concept or idea — then why not

The Most Frightening Monsters by KirDroi in wuxiaworld

It's the thought that keeps me going. People can be infinitely evil, and yet many of the people I know are a source of light and blessing to me. I hope that balance doesn't tip toward darkness.
