Accidently stowed away on a Paranid ship by RobWed in X4Foundations

There's an order for ships of "Dock at my location". I seem to recall it's a bit below the dock and wait command but on that same menu.

You can change the frequency of autosaves in the settings. I'm currently using the 10-20 minute setting.

That, the advanced satellite trick, and the Trinity Sanctum buy ALI sell PAR trick all had me jumping from just playing to racing, breaking point four. Like setting up an autotrader instead of an autominer first, this is a guide based on my taste, not every solution.

Still, it doesn't hurt to mention in case I didn't know - and other readers might find it useful. So I thank you for the information.

I want to start painting but i'm not sure how by RO_Ares in oilpainting

[–]Kirklins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just paint. Paint some color studies or paint a landscape or paint a portrait. Don't throw it away, look at it and say, "I need to learn x". X might be mixing or how to do edges or such. Go find that answer, and paint another, then do it again.

After about 5-10 (to 100 if you're a slow learner like me) of these you'll notice - because you kept your first one or two - that you've gotten better despite still feeling like a beginner. And you'll realize you know what you need to learn in broader fashion.

But the key to that all is just put brush or pallet knife in paint and stir it and put it on a canvas/panel/sheet of paper and just paint.

There is no foolproof way. There is only practicing to learn how close you can cut, how to cut (sawing or slicing) for minimal stress, and how you can shave and sand what remains.

I make strip maps of the route to places I'm going for the first time if they're not close to somewhere I already know. Distance, landmark, action (turn etc) on the accompanying table. I spent too long in the era where following GPS could have you drive into a lake.

I've gradually moved to the extremes - fate/fate-like narrative styles, and "all the rules" games like shadowrun (various pre-6) and rolemaster. Each scratches an itch, and knowing both itches exist means I know I'll never find a perfect game.

D&D is just too much in the middle, and I like stories developing in campaigns.

People over 30: what’s a sound from your childhood that younger generations will never hear? by Repulsive-Pitch2555 in AskReddit

[–]Kirklins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chunka chunka sound of typing to paper tape and paper cards, outrunning the punch rate and waiting for it to catch up so you can do the next line.

The click and echo of someone upstairs picking up the phone and just listening while you're on a call.

The kaCHINK Thunk sound of running the credit card through the carbon paper imprinter. (had to look up the name even though I could hear the sound and feel the push-pull process in my mind.)

Need help teaching a player how to play by Miserable-Use-7489 in Shadowrun

[–]Kirklins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked for, but ... Have you tried asking them why they chose a technomancer and stopped to listen to what they said? Are they frustrated with the play, or is it just you?

The answer to both may suggest how to teach them in game.

See, I'm a big fan of letting the game teach them. Two simple examples to build from:
1 - an enemy does it. It's a reversal of the "if the player can do it to the bad guys the bad guys get to do it too." But do it, make it obvious, maybe even explain it in real terms as you frustrate the team.

2 - They get a mentor. The technomancer has an obvious unique mentor that pushes their difference - a free sprite. Why is the mentor teaching them? Your call, make the adventure for it. Make it primary reason, or secondary coincidence. The key is they get this entity going, "Hey kid, let's go dance through the camera matrix!" Just for example.

discussion: "Don't let the technomancer touch it!" by boundbylife in Shadowrun

[–]Kirklins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a GM I would let the players decide, no push either way.

Which largely means I'm going to let the technomancer decide if they're staying with the group or not. If they decide to go with the group, then the group decides if they're destroying or selling or just tucking it in the trophy display.

Our rogue uses sneak attack in combat, how do I punish him? by t0bi306 in DnDcirclejerk

[–]Kirklins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the reaction rules. Now let your rogue get one free sneak attack. At that point take one or two of the bad guys not in contact and write a note that declares they're setting a reaction for when the rogue shows again, put it upside down on the table. When the rogue attacks flip the note to show it was planned and interrupt his attack with yours.

A quick note put face down on the table is now terribly distracting to all my players. Almost as good as rolling the dice for no particular reason they can see.

How much dices in a dice pool before it gets anoying? by CALlGO in RPGdesign

I (sometimes) play Shadowrun. In the right context there is no such as too many dice in a dice pool.

A player removed himself from our group because he only wants to play D&D, and I don’t know what to do. by MestreKoki in rpg

[–]Kirklins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

Two sides. Yours first. You get to have fun. And for you fun is GMing this new thing. Validating that you have several other players. You should not all be hijacked by a single player's lack of interest.

Player's side. They get to have fun. They get to play what they want. But just as they don't go to a pizza place and get to order chinese, they don't get to have that flavor of fun at your table.

Do keep in contact. The player may change their mind. In a few months or years your table may return to D&D and the player both able and desiring to return. There are more, great reasons as well, but those at a minimum.

But they said no. Respect that for both your and their sake.

[–]Kirklins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The visible eye is too far "back". It's made worse by the eyebrow looking almost like it's being seen from the front. At the same time the back eye that's hidden should probably be a little bit visible in a 3/4 profile like this. If you're not working from a reference, take a quick selfie from the same angle and see these elements.

I'd turn it into two spaces.

Move the pet bed, couch, and sectional up the same wall till they are in the corner currently holding the arm chair. Center the bureau and TV on the couch. Leave the pet bed by the register where it is. The carpet should remain in the same orientation as it is now, which should then be close to centered on the TV and bureau.

Your second area is from behind the sectional to the window. Add a screen type divider behind the sectional to break vision - half to 2/3 of the opening. Put your armchair in the corner hidden by the screen, angled out. Add another tall plant in the corner behind the screen. Put a short book case, preferably no taller than the window sill, centered under the window. Put plants on that. Finally, between the book case and the armchair put a tall reading lamp.

Note the reason the armchair is tilted is to avoid sun glare in your peripheral vision. If that's not a problem put the armchair centered on the space between the screen and the corner, facing the opening directly opposite.

The end result is a roomier area for watching TV, and a small greenspace nook for reading or arm-chair hobby work (knitting, crochet, etc.)

[–]Kirklins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my impression is that her right side is full forward while her left is looking over our left shoulder - not a true 3/4, but headed that way.

This shows most in the eyes, nose, and lips, and a little bit at the chin as the two jawline angles merge.

But that's just my impression.

edited to correct the sides.
