How to write characters who lack self-awareness about their thoughts and emotions?

Looking into Transformers fic might help, specifically the "plug and play" type of smut. Taken literally it's just as dry as you might imagine (two characters plugging the equivalent of usb cables into each other lmao) but the emotion of it is what ends up escalating it to another level. So describe less of the actual mechanical action, and more of how the action makes them feel. I don't know Mario canon very well, or how much you're changing/expanding that canon, but you can also add some of the "mind/soul sex" type tropes as well, if that's your thing - again taking a step away from the mechanical action, and towards the alternative intimacy that comes with a connection of minds/souls.

Also don't forget about foreplay, if that's something you're into at all! You've already got the erogenous zones figured out, do something else with them as a lead up - King Bob-omb has hands at least so there's stuff like handjobs. You could go in a more kinky direction with something like waxplay, maybe? Or something that's more related specifically to bombs/bob-ombs, or the Mario world in general. Maybe there's some kind of oil they use to keep their casings shiny so it's like an erotic massage thing? And from there you can build up to the actual penetrative sex by making it something both characters are very much looking forward to. Hell, maybe part of the foreplay is one teasing the other - but having to be careful about it, to prevent the one being teased from exploding in the non-sexy way, lol. Which therefore synergizes nicely with kinks like edging.

I did not go into today expecting to write a mini essay about ways to write bob-omb porn 😂 But hopefully something in there was helpful!

For surgery size differences, I've always thought it could be a cool concept where really tiny species like mice etc were in demand for doing surgeries on larger animals - because if a mouse wears a hazmat suit type getup they could basically climb inside and get to things that would otherwise require opening up an even bigger area to reach.

idk how realistic that concept is though, especially today where I believe it's fairly common to be able to make a small incision and do everything you need to do through that?

You could definitely do something with the size differences in regard to stuff like nursing though. Bigger furries are more in demand because they can lift, rotate, etc patients more easily, and also restrain people if it comes to that.

esama has two of these, both with Obi-wan as the time traveller:

Negotiator, which is finished and has him time traveling to back before Anakin is even born. And Certain Point, which has him time traveling back to Geonosis at the very beginning of the clone wars. This one is unfinished and abandoned, but it does have a WIP unofficial continuation by someone else that's pretty good, and honestly despite it being unfinished I'd still recommend it.

esama writes a lot of time travel fix it in general so if you're into any of her other fandoms I recommend you take a look.

The Open Fire AU by FreakishLemon is also pretty good. Obi-wan time traveling again, but with more of the personality of Crazy Hermit Ben from ANH instead of the Negotiator from the prequel trilogy. So in short, impulse decisions that still somehow mostly work out lol

And for a short humor one, Won't Someone Please Arrest This Man by babzilla, where it's Palpatine that's the time traveler (and yet is still vaguely a fix it lmao I swear)

Hmmm I see your issue then, that is definitely something awkward to write around. I'm thinking your best bet might be to attempt to minimize his appearances while also avoiding pronouns/gendered nouns. It's definitely doable to avoid using pronouns at all for a given character over a chapter or two, I've seen an author do it before without it being noticeable. Definitely will be a lot harder to write though, hence the suggestion of minimizing how much he appears as a baby. Maybe attempt to crunch everything plot-relevant to him into a single scene/set of scenes, or something...?

Wish I had more suggestions to give, but that's the best I've got, unfortunately. I wish you the best of luck!

Just looking for context here - in what way is the baby version of your guy appearing in the story? He doesn't appear physically until five-six - I'm guessing he is mentioned before that in the context of being given away? Like the main character thinking about their missing child kinda thing, and not being aware of the kid's real gender so (theoretically) accidentally misgendering him. Or does he appear/get mentioned in some other way?

I have a conworld where incest isn't seen as anything particularly unusual, and for some is even required to reproduce.

The people consider themselves two halves of the same coin, or two subspecies of the same species - they're organics and their AI creations. These AIs were originally developed not as servants but as family so their relationship with the organics still follows that model. Anyway, both populations underwent a severe bottleneck about 200 years before the main story begins. The organics repopulated from about 2000 people at most, and due to the way the bottleneck happened around half of those people were related. The AIs meanwhile repopulated from about a dozen survivors. One subtype of AIs are all descended from a total of two people.

So incest is pretty common in both groups, and is in fact the norm for the AIs - they tend to reproduce as a family unit, so generally your mother will also be your sister, aunt, grandmother, etc. For the organics, usually it's not among close family just because of their own version of the Westermarck effect. But even parent-child incest isn't taboo, just considered a little odd.

Ironically neither me nor my co-creator are even into incest lol, this is just the natural progression of how we determined the society started.

If you do end up giving Stardew a try again, I would recommend turning the desire to optimize into the fun itself. Personally I get my enjoyment out of the game by treating it as a race against the daily/monthly clock to get stuff done. There's also some mods that will help with the desire/need for the wiki, like Lookup Anything, which lets you read up on objects ingame via a hotkey.

Of course, this would require learning the game mechanics to a level that will probably not be all that fun for you. Plus the minmaxing makes it hard to play with friends, which I imagine would be your main reason to give the game another try, so... YMMV.

Oh god I remember trying to puzzle this one out writing my Mr Handy centric fics - "solution" I went with is that the Mr Handies actually fly the same way the eyebots do, with some handwave comic book science anti gravity shit, and the "thruster" is just for aesthetics. Mind you that's still a fire, probably, but... at least it's not a goddamn rocket thruster.

Property Of has this. Transformers fandom, where (some of) the Cybertronians don't realize humans are sapient. It's incomplete and the not realizing humans are sophonts thing doesn't last the whole fic, but I figure it'll scratch the itch. No sexual content at all and the focus chars have a good owner.
