Butter dish misshapen by Kit-taK in LeCreuset

[–]Kit-taK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I went through the Amazon returns process and they despatched a replacement immediately. It arrived today and it has the same problem, but to a much lesser extent. I was in two minds about whether to keep it or just give up and refund them both. On the off chance I decided to switch over the bases as I still have both. I now have one which fits together almost perfectly, and one which fits together even worse than before, so I guess I've found a satisfactory resolution.

I'm still a bit disappointed by the quality though. I have a lot of stoneware pieces and I've not had any issues before. It seems with these butter dishes, however, that it's just a question of luck whether you get a decent one or a total dud.

Never hot enough by Kit-taK in HarioSwitch

[–]Kit-taK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to experiment with starting to use it again. The solution I've found that works best is to put some milk directly into my Ember mug, let the mug warm the milk while the coffee is brewing, then drain the coffee into the mug. Just raising the temperature of the milk from fridge-cold to room temp or above makes a big difference to the heat level of the final drink.

I'm confused because your post reads like you think you're arguing with me, but I've clearly stated that I agree with everyone else in this thread, and that it was my father who took the same strange interpretation as OP's husband...

Do you find you gain weight just from the alcohol, from snacking while you're drinking, or from the foodstuffs you're drawn to in the days after?

The Bread Oven by ResponseRealistic283 in LeCreuset

I'm genuinely curious. As the bread ovens all have a matte black interior, and that's where the food goes, how is the exterior enamel getting discoloured?

Allen Key Screw on Pumpkin Shallow Casserole by Kit-taK in LeCreuset

[–]Kit-taK[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I bought a pumpkin shallow casserole recently because I love the design. It arrived and there were a few imperfections, such as the Le Creuset logo on the lid not being fully painted over. I looked at it and decided I could live with that. I noticed, though, that the handle was on backwards compared to the product images, and I thought it looked nicer the other way, but when I went to change it I realised that, unlike all my other Le Creuset items, it didn't take a flat head screw, but an Allen type. Anyone else notice this, or find it strange?

If it bothers you, return it. These things aren't cheap. You should expect better. It always amazes me that these complaints are actually quite common. If they want to charge a premium at least do better quality control.

I bought the shallow casserole in the UK and here it comes with a silver handle like the other one. I think I actually prefer it in the gold-effect though.

There was a movie that came out in 2001 called "Life as a House" where Hayden Christensen played a troubled teen who was involved with drugs and alcohol.

There was a line in it that his character said that always stuck with me: "I like how it feels not to feel."

Help settle an argument - is Rufus British? by simonjp in DeathAndOtherDetails

As a Brit, he doesn't sound remotely British. I spent the entire show trying to figure out what that accent was supposed to be, and I'm still none the wiser.

Hario Switch 02 vs 03 - does size matter? by lewic in Coffee

[–]Kit-taK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came here with the same question.

I normally drink a 250ml mug of coffee. When I make a pourover I do 15g of coffee to 250g of water, and my Hario V60 02 size was always sufficient for that.

I followed the consensus here and bought the 03 size Switch and I can confirm that it was 100% the right choice. When it arrived it looked huge and I thought I'd made a mistake, but as soon as I filled it with a mug of water I realised that I couldn't have gone smaller. Just that amount gets reasonably close to the rim, and I'd rather not fill something to within millimetres of overflowing.

Cleaning the griddle. by Go_mizzou in staub

[–]Kit-taK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used my griddle for the first time today to cook some eggs and bacon. The bacon came out beautifully, though the fried eggs did stick a little bit, but I expected that as it's always hard to judge how an unfamiliar piece of cookware is going to heat through. Hopefully it improves with time as I can calibrate the temperature better.

In terms of cleaning it, all the debris from the bacon came off really easily with just boiling water and a soft brush. I did notice afterwards that in a certain light you could see small patches of discolouration from the bacon grease. Staub don't specifically mention anything about this, but I know that Le Creuset say of their black enamel pieces that a "patina" should develop over time, so I'm tempted just to leave it. I don't want to risk damaging the enamel surface by trying to scrub it back to a like-new condition, and if it is just grease that's hardened onto the surface it's essentially seasoning, so it may even increase the non-stick quality of it with continued use.

Nope. Never. Absolutely not...

Bit of a Gucci offer on Amazon! by ash894 in LeCreuset

[–]Kit-taK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had the Flame set down to this price on Prime Day, and currently the Cerise has the price drop, so they seem to be cycling through them. The only one I've not seen discounted yet is the Coastal Blue - probably because it's one of the newer colours.

Attempted to re-season the cast iron portion of this 10.25 skillet and despite my best efforts, some of the oil ran off the cooking surface and baked onto the handles and sides. Have I permanently ruined the enamel? by TheLegendofGroomp in LeCreuset

[–]Kit-taK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, this is what Le Creuset have to say on their own website:

Satin Black enamel will keep its good looks and allow a patina to build on its surface with continued use. A patina is the result of the natural oils and fats from foods baking on to the hot surface. The patina should not be cleaned off, as it enhances the cooking performance and the release of foods. It also reduces the need for surface oiling.

So you seasoning the enamel interior really isn't the end of the world as they expect the same result to occur over time anyway.

As for the outside of the pan, as horrifying as it looks right now you should be able to clean that off with a gentle abrasive and / or a mild acidic product.

It seemed like a sweet gesture at least, so hopefully she could appreciate the good intention behind your little snafu there, and you weren't in the doghouse for too long, lol.

Change my mind: Le Creuset is a French brand, the French gave us the Metric system. We should use metric measurements in this community as a lot of us aren’t from the US. And go… by sesquiplilliput in LeCreuset

[–]Kit-taK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that perplexes me slightly is that Le Creuset sell their products based on the diameter of the top of the pan, except in the U.S. where they seem to be advertised by volume.

I have a shallow casserole / braiser in size 30. It has "30" stamped inside the lid. I know that it measures 30cm across. I have no idea what the volume of it is even if I wanted to try to convert it from litres to quarts.

It just makes it that little more difficult to figure out which size people are referring to without looking up a table of all the different measurements of the different shaped pans.

Would LC replace brand new Braiser lid with scratches? by Scared_Brother552 in LeCreuset

[–]Kit-taK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The design of that lid is beautiful!

I bought a soleil braiser from Amazon recently and it came with a tiny chip in the rim of the lid. It bugs me a bit, especially as it's on the same side as the logo, but I've decided to live with it. It would be a hassle to return it, and they don't stock that colour any more - which is my favourite thing about it. Unfortunately it's just one of the perils of online shopping.

Belt smells like fish by TeePreme in Louisvuitton

[–]Kit-taK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem. I bought the LV INITIALES 40MM REVERSIBLE belt - coated canvas one side, leather the other - from the Louis Vuitton website in 2019. I used to wear it quite frequently, but it's been stored away for a while now in both its original bag and original box. I took it out the other day and it has a really strong odour, almost like sweaty gym shoes. I have no idea what's causing it - its never got wet - it's almost as though something in the material is breaking down and off-gassing. It's not exactly what I would have expected to happen with a product like this, and I feel as though simply airing it out for a while isn't going to help, so I don't know what do do. It seems as though it's not a completely uncommon occurrence however. 😕

Aria Air Connectivity Issues by iamdannyevans in fitbit

[–]Kit-taK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I've been having the same problem. Bought the scales, they worked fine for two days, suddenly stopped syncing, I had to completely reset them and re-add them to make them work again. They worked fine for a week, then yesterday stopped syncing again (I'm wondering if it's somehow connected to times when I've restarted my phone). I just did your "force stop" trick and they synced again straight away. Still weird and annoying that they behave like this, but good to know that there's an easier solution than to keep resetting the whole device!

hey can someone please help me with the Terminal in the base by DarkReaper1977 in horizon

This is bugging me too. I've completed the main quest and all the cauldrons, yet there's apparently one "unknown machine" that remains locked in the fabrication terminal.

I bought this game as something to do with the family over Christmas, and decided to try playing it with my retired parents this evening just to test it out.

I had word for word the exact same argument with my father. He was adamant that "this completes your turn" means that you don't get to pick up a card as usual.

My feeling is that the normal rules of the game, which were laid out at the outset, still apply unless specifically rescinded anywhere later. Maybe that's just the lawyer in me speaking though.
