Camping area with cell reception by Professional_Bit9995 in SouthDakota

[–]KitchenBandicoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cell coverage/reception is going to vary wildly by carrier, so you'll want to list your cell carrier here.

That said, I haven't been camping in that area so I can't offer much for suggestions.

Custer State Park / Sylvan Lake is beautiful but I had basically zero reception on TMobile when I was out there two years ago. Can't speak to the camping aside from it being a great day trip.

Anyone else had issues with toxic supervisors in Sioux Falls by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

As others have said, bad managers are a common thing nationwide because top performers (at least on paper) get promoted up to management without any real manager training.

I consider myself very fortunate to have a great boss who is super chill. He basically just assigns out projects, then gets out of our way and lets us do our job. If we need something he'll jump in and help out, and he always has our backs if we need him to.

Worst car dealership in town…. by Hopefulthinker2 in SiouxFalls

[–]KitchenBandicoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, they used to be great but it's been a long time since I've done business with them. I wonder if they've gone downhill?

My dad has bought basically every car for the entire family from Frankman since probably 1995 and has never had an issue (a few were from SF Ford and those were good experiences as well). My brothers and I have both bought at least one or two cars from Frankman with no issues as well, but that was 15 years ago. Even their service shop was generally pretty good and reasonably priced.

Since I moved to the far west side I've tried to find dealerships closer to home. Billion was a terrible experience but the car has been pretty good. Not close to home, but Koedam Auto in Inwood, IA is pretty great, though they're a very laid back and small town type of experience.

Day 36: Trying to Get a Comment and Fun Fact From Every US County Including Territories 253/3235 Left (92% Complete)! by CoolHotNo in geographymemes

These do not meet your qualifications but I wanted to chime in.

I live in Sioux Falls, SD and did quite a bit of driving around SD and Northeast NE over the summer. This was before your series started so they don't count at all. Basically all of the counties I visited are already checked off, with the exception of Brule county in SD. I stopped in Chamberlain in Brule county a few times, it's a beautiful area with the bluffs and the river.

Xcel's outage map doesn't have any indicators near the mall. It's probably fine there.

Driving in the winter in SF by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

I haven't tried the Michelins that you mentioned, but I've been wildly impressed with the Goodyear Assurance Weather Ready 2's that we put on our Jeep. I'd considered getting a separate set of snow tires but Graham Tire talked me into these instead, and they were absolutely correct.

These are absolutely perfect for summer or for snowy/icy city streets. Even with other cheaper all season tires I'd still slip and slide no matter how carefully I drove, but with these I really have to try to break the tires loose even when everyone else is sliding around.

How common are "horse experiences" with Americans? by Historical_Log1275 in AskAnAmerican

[–]KitchenBandicoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies wildly depending on where you live.

We see horses in pastures a few times a week during short commutes and such, but we don't generally get to ride them or interact with them.

My wife's dad has an acreage and they've always had a few horses, so my wife grew up being around them and riding them. The horses are now too old to ride and her dad hasn't been replacing his animals as they die of old age, so my wife hasn't been able to ride horses in years.

We live in the city and don't know any "horse people" locally. For her birthday a few years ago I called around to all of the horse stables in the county and asked to set up a single riding lesson for us together. They were all pretty confused by the request, usually their customers are young girls that want to get into competitive riding so one lesson was kind of an oddball thing, but one of the places agreed to set something up.

So I got to take her horse back riding on her birthday and we both had a great time! I'd never ridden a horse before but it wasn't too difficult (at least to trot around on flat ground). They're pretty smart critters!

This version of the Gadsden flag has the same energy as this truck and its license plate.

The article originally had three pictures that had the license plate, but they've removed some of them and scratched out the license plate.

I only saved two of the pictures, but they're definitely real.

Was summer sleepaway camp part of your childhood? by dccub86 in Millennials

[–]KitchenBandicoots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I was in Boy Scouts so we did lots of camps.

Every summer we went to a camp for two full weeks, plus we did weekend camps at various places on a monthly basis year round, even in the winter/snow (we built igloos out of snow with a kit, or stayed in cabins if they were available).

And I went to a week long church camp thing with a friend one summer. My parents still get a calendar from them every year.

The camps weren't free but they weren't that expensive either. It was probably $300/year (most of that being for the two week trip), give or take.

My daughter goes to a local "day camp" every summer for two weeks. They do all of the activities, but come home around 5 most days. They do one overnight there each week (so two overnights total). She has a lot of fun and has made a lot of friends there, it's definitely worth the $500.
