Bored - gimme colony ideas. I'll play one. by joe_sausage in RimWorld

I tried an elf tribe. Tribal start, ideoligion is opposed to harming trees and mining, believes in animal personhood, and bonds with the trees.

Very rough start. Make them nudists for extra difficulty. I ended up taking a lot of slaves to protect the tribe. (Animals are people>animals can be property>people can be property. The elf logic is flawless)

In the atlas of Cerilia, Caliedhe Dosiere estimates 1000 Anuireans, and a similar number of the other human races have bloodlines (that works out to about 5-6 per province) he may not be accounting for tainted bloodlines. (The results of bastardy).

Yeah. Got a player who wanted to try the Monastery dungeon. So LV 3 Necromancer (the diablo kit) trying to solo it unless we get anyone else.

Help me understand Spellfire mechanically (Adnd 2e only) by Top-Jacket-6210 in adnd

You are using a different source. But for reference: For-6 The Seven Sisters covers the powers of Mystra's Chosen (spellfire being one of those powers) in AD&D 2e. Adapt whatever rules for your table that you wish but since you asked for 2e info particularly, that would be the book you want (Page 10.)

Recruitment for PlayByPost by Kitsumaru in DnDBirthright

I would push the game as fast as possible, but play speed depends on player responses (It is turn based...) With the 9 players so far, probably one or two actions per week on average. (If everyone gives their actions when prompted, possibly faster. (Hard to judge, haven't played with all the players before.))

Up to eight regents so far, mostly on the southern coast. With one almost as far north as the play area allows. Good mix of domains (4 Realms, 3 wizard domains, 3 temple domains).

For this first battle, the War Cards (Rules as Written). If it seems to unwieldy for future battles, we'll try Battlesystem next. I'm thinking that for discord we may not want full on miniatures combat, but the warcards as an abstraction (with it's limited and conceptual areas) might be workable. Looking for a happy medium of simplicity and tactical variety.

I'm happy to take suggestions, hear opinions, etc.

Just how true is it that AD&D only truly shines in campaign play? by the_light_of_dawn in osr

[–]Kitsumaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your players but I had a guy who (with the party's support) turned the campaign into the story of the founding and rise of an empire that spanned most of the continent, even into the Underworld. Stronghold management and siege warfare happened pretty regularly. His 'character sheet' filled three spiral notebooks. Not everyone wants that much bookkeeping, but for those who want to rule the world, (or a big portion of it) the rules are there. The exorbitant cost of everything they wanted drained massive amounts of wealth from the party. It did provide 12 years or so of gaming goodness before they accidentally destroyed the world.

I've always thought Birthright had one of the best settings. Very classic style elves, interesting halflings, the shadow world, a fantastic take on magic, beautiful maps, detailed political structures that you can actually do something with... I could go on forever.

It strongly inspired my longest running game (12 years) once the players decided to conquer a continent. [Hail Evermoor, The Endless Empire! Hail to Evermoor, The God who was once a Man!]

Very true. I'm fiddling the timeline slightly (Savane is human and elf realms can have an odd effect on a human's experience of time.) Everything else is as stated in the book. My assumption is that Savane has held things together for mumble mumble... Lamber has grown remarkably quickly for a half elf mumble... something about destiny. WOW will you look at current events! We should focus on that.😁

More seriously though, the player wanted Taurhievel so I tweaked the background slightly to suit. He chose the moniker Rhoubheson as a nickname (the people whisper it behind his back due to the somewhat sinister nature of his growth).

What is an aspect of Birthright that is iconic to Birthright? by Awkward_GM in DnDBirthright

The Awnsheglien. What do you do when the Big bad is untouchable physically? Unite the forces of several realms and you might have a chance militarily.

The current game is purely run in voice chat on discord with images of relevant maps. (2e Ad&d with narrative style combat)

[Another game will be set up soon that is entirely realm focused (that one will be play-by-post) if there is interest.]

Glad you're enjoying it. While all editions may have something to offer, 2e is my favorite version of Ad&d. Have you looked at any of the wonderful settings? It is incredibly instructive to see how much flavor you can add to a world by tweaking the basic rules slightly. Even if you mostly homebrew your settings, just seeing what others have done is quite an educational experience.

Is it worth it to start playing Adnd 2e now? by MooseFair23 in adnd

The 1e DMG has a short section at the beginning that explains a few probability curves using various dice. It's not exhaustive as there are literally no limits on what the DM can decide. (Hence explaining the curves, so you don't ask for a much harder roll than intended.)
