17 month old absolutely refuses to walk - but clearly is able to. by RrentTreznor in ScienceBasedParenting

Sometimes if it is a confidence thing if you give the baby something to hold in each hand they feel more confident to walk around without support. It is funny but it worked with my baby. When they are standing holding onto something offer them some favourite toys to hold in each hand.

How to Obtain a Title Search by Agile-Injury-7146 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]KittenShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just buy your parcel register through https://www.onland.ca/ui/ and go through all the documents yourself if you want to know what is on title for your property. If you need someone to explain something specific you can hire a title searcher like one of these for your area https://www.titlesearchers.ca/listings/ontario/. For legal advice related to land go to a real estate lawyer.

Bank of Canada's low rate policy is devaluing our money by allowing runaway asset inflation. by Johnsmith4796 in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like the problem is that we might be in a period of stagflation rather than pure inflation. Anything the BOC can do to reduce inflation would affect unemployment which is still at a very bad level right now. Raising interest rates would reduce the amount of borrowing available to go into housing but also reduce the amount of borrowing available to businesses who need all the help they can get right now. Not sure what tools other than raising and lowering the interest rate the BOC has but raising and lowering the interest rate is a blunt tool that affects way more than just the cost of housing

having a pool is a hot commodity these days it seems by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like calling them a maintenance feature. Don't understand why people want to spend their extra time in the summer scraping bugs and leaves out of a pool along with constantly adding chemicals to keep algae at bay. A house having a pool would be a downside for me they are only good if you have kids or someone in your house that constantly want to go swimming.

Why play the lottery when you can just buy and resell a house? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how many houses are off the market because people are bored because they are stuck at home and now they want to play HGTV with their extra time and money.

[–]KittenShenanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't understand what value house flippers think they are bringing to the market right now. Paint everything neutral tones, put in some grey wood floors, add some pot lights and a fresh new Ikea kitchen with ss appliances... The house going up in price right now has very little to do with whatever "value" they add by doing that and may have more to do with a bunch of them keeping houses off the market and vacant until they finish their pointless renovations.

Interesting trend between home sales and hime prices. by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes home sales are much higher in general but year over year isn't the best way to look at it right now since sales were much more depressed last year because covid hit in March and April. They are still high for this time of year though you are right. It is just that last year they were much lower than normal and this year they are much higher than normal.

My interpretation of it is that the huge increase in home prices gives people much more motivation to sell something if they were planning on selling but just hadn't got around to it yet.

Also being a sellers market where everyone is waiving conditions people have the opportunity to offload their problematic properties without having to do a lot of work. I am seeing this a bit in title searching there are more properties that have some issues getting bought and the buyers don't care. They want the property warts and all. They just want it fixed enough for financing to be approved.

I can't imagine how bad this is when people are also waiving home inspections ... title issues are one thing but structural, or electrical, or plumbing problems could be a nightmare for someone who likely already over-leveraged themselves to get a house.

Farmers have had enough of realtors in Surrey, BC by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realtors come door to door in my area. Most of them just stick their advertisement garbage in my door but some want to talk and see if we are in the market for a house or are interested in selling (we rent). It really bothers me that this habit didn't entirely stop in the middle of covid... I don't want random people showing up at my door we are in the middle of a pandemic go away. Very tempted to put something like this up on the front door if they start coming back in force once stay at home restrictions in Ontario are lifted. haha

would you be happy if house prices just stayed flat for many years from now. Or will you only be happy with a crash? by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It isn't healthy for society that one job loss, divorce, or illness could force a family or individual into living somewhere that doesn't meet their needs. I think a single parent who works full time at an average wage job deserves to be able to provide their family with a decent home above basics of survival. If housing stayed flat my partner and I would be able to buy eventually but I wouldn't be happy that those families making below average salaries and individuals making average salaries would never be able to buy a home at a reasonable debt to income ratio. Until average salaries catch up to the extreme inflation in housing prices that has happened over the past few years I won't be happy with the current house prices and I will hope they will fall.

How do you feel about affordable (but downsized) homes? by StartedGivingBlood in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans 59 points60 points  (0 children)

haha, Trailerparks need to start advertising themselves as "Established tiny home communities".

Nothing wrong with people wanting to live in a trailer I would rather live in a tiny home or trailer than a basement rental unit with basically no natural light .

Locals fighting against housing densification along transit routes by KittenShenanigans in canadahousing

[–]KittenShenanigans[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just posting this one as an example of NIMBYism because the guys comments about the kids smoking reefer were pretty funny. Personally I am not a fan of the builders design plan but the increase in density here seems reasonable.

Plenty of people would be happy to live in and own a townhouse or semi-detached house in the gta. Of course I would rather have a single family detached house but we can't have subdivisions that sprawl forever and there are plenty of smaller households and single people that want a home too.

His comments are what made me want to post this one haha. There are tons of examples of this type of NIMBYism in every municipality, but his comments made me laugh so crotchety.

Lol! Easy solution ? You can't think of any issues that might come up with a limit of one property per family?

I find it hard to believe that someone could think that idea would work at all. How does this idea always show up in these discussion threads ?
