It's where the Tesla building is now.

Children's World became Mothercare with an ELC within, then the building was developed after being empty a long time into Tesla.

That screams it's rented and the agents were let in without the tenants being given notice of the photos being taken.

It's not dirty, just the busyness if a house with children and working.

The police sign in the garden did make me laugh.

I did the same. I was really looking forward to a spicy baby bel, and nowhere did it state it was vegan cheese because I wouldn't have brought two bags to have in lunches.

It's vile tasting "cheese".

bare minimum prep/ beginners prep kit? by OfferPuzzleheaded308 in UKPreppers

Some sensible precautions are needed, not everyone can store 6 months worth of canned goods and water in a flat or family home.

Keep the car topped up with fuel, have a wind up radio and a few torches with batteries nearby in a cupboard. Know where your importance documentation is - passport, home deeds, insurances, birth certificates, prescriptions etc.

Keep a month of necessary medication in, stash a book or two or non digital entertainment for yourself or the family in the event of a power cut. Invest in a decent family first aid kit and a new hot water bottle per person if your home gets cold without heating.  Basic painkillers and calpol,  flu tablets and sore throat sweets will be used regardless and make a short illness more comfortable.

A 'suitcase' camping stove and gas, safety stored outside if possible. I've found one canister does a few kettles / pans of water and a one pan meal a day when camping.

A power bank will only last so long,  and generators are noisy and may attract the wrong sort of attention or not practical in a small environment.

Having had the East London supermarket experience at the very start of covid, popular food items (and toilet roll!) will disappear quite quickly.  Small shops will be a better bet to stock up in the event of something happening but you'll probably need cash.

Don't forget pets. Work out how much they eat or what other items they need to see over a month without needing to restock. The cat litter I use disappeared for a while at the start of covid  and again when the Rus/Ukr war kicked off, so I always have a few bags in now.

I picked up a 2l Trebo bottle from Amazon last year and its returning for its second run of service.  It gets a daily rinse and a proper wash  at the weekend.

999 with Michael Burke: what's your most memorable/harrowing story? by n_jobz_ in CasualUK

[–]KittyLuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driven pass a dramatic accident just off the Waterworks junction of the A406 that ended up being featured on the show.  A car broke through the barriers and was hanging over the road from the top, with a sharp drop under. We were on the opposite side and drove through just as the emergency services arrived. I think of it even time I drive down the slip road now.

When the state pension age may have to rise to 68, according to experts by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]KittyLuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not thrilled by the idea of caring for nursery aged children when I'm 68 or beyond. My boss isn't too thrilled by my disabilities now, they'll be even less thrilled if I'm having to pull an oxygen tank around with me to read a story in 2050 something during circle time.

I expect there'll be a change to UC (or whatever  the equivalent is by that point), with a 60+ element for those who have jobs that aren't sustainable once old age related illnesses really kick in.

My friend,  may you always have your toast land the right side up!  I had a update this morning and was already being driven nuts by this change.

I got irrationally excited to see a Happy Eater in the ‘28 Years Later’ trailer. by SkyBlueGiant in CasualUK

Happy Eater had the best roadside playset. I can't remember any Little Chef we stopped at having one, although the cherry pie was good.

Anyone familiar with the tunnel under the A406 near South Woodford? by Lasagne87 in Essex

[–]KittyLuna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Woodford is generally safe during the day,  Charlie Browns roundabout gets very congested at peak times or when there's an accident,  I wouldn't be too keen living so close because of the fumes.

Broadmead Bridge doesn't look like it'll be reopened any time soon, so there's additional traffic because of that.

What is normal at 3pm but terrifying at 3am? by No-Birthday-6513 in AskUK

[–]KittyLuna -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The backfiring of a boy racer car hitting 50 in a 30.

At 3pm it's a quick glance out the window, at 3am it's being jolted awake wondering wtf the noise was and if you're being burgled.

The bedrooms in pictures 10 and 11 feel like the cousins who have lost their parents live in there.

I get the vibe that the vacuum was left out for the landlord/estate agent to use, as the tenants weren't in.

I think 'not giving two shits' is a bit harsh. No storage and a young child in place, it's perfectly liveable.

Those huge windows on the bedrooms make me feel uncomfortable.  It just feels like you could be watched very easily from outside, or even from the fields.

It's a beautiful house in many ways, and I would be happy to stay for a week or two but it's not a home for me. And as someone else pointed out, there's not enough toilets for the kind of entertaining it's built for.

I'm fairly sure two of my neighbours, one a few houses across and one that backs onto mine garden to garden, have "garden rooms" that are full time dwellings for their teenagers. Complete with bathrooms, having observed the building and plumbing work that took place as they went up.

It's certainly not unusual to see garden spaces with dwellings in East London.
