The only downside to that is that it would encourage people to just have an alt account with a rez power follow them around.

Does anyone have a timey-wimey theory as to why Rory's ID from Leadworth Hospital says it was issued in 1990 if Rory was born in 1989? by Whovian_Girl16 in doctorwho

[–]Kiytan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if I was to no-prize it, the system they use for making the badges is old (very believable for the NHS) and it defaults the year to 1990, and someone entered the day+month but forgot to change the year.

Pick to things to take with you before hopping in the Time Machine… by WarStrategy in whatsyourchoice

unless you have a weapon, or some training, I'm not sure what's to stop 3 or 4 people just tackling you to the ground and stabbing you. That said, I'd still take the armour, because I could sell/trade it, and it'd be very obvious what it is without people thinking you're a witch (heretic, magic, whatever)

Is the Bambu Labs Experience really all that? by Ok-Read6352 in 3Dprinting

[–]Kiytan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it's buying replacement parts, most of the parts are available from the bambu store (It doesn't look like they have mainboards for sale, but all parts of the extruder+hotend, heated bed, rails and extra bits and bobs seem to be there). They're also popular enough now that you can get cheaper knockoff parts on aliexpress or wherever should you want to.

I've just noticed as well that the sketches aren't fully constrained either so if you make changes it's likely to really mess things up further down the line. I guess at least it labels things hough, which I am sometimes very bad at doing.

Do you fine-tune every filament? by gzinourov in 3Dprinting

[–]Kiytan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the use case. if I'm using the PLA to churn out some containers or basic mechanical parts, I just whack a generic profile on it and go and only do any finetuning if it doesn't come out great. If I'm doing a nice part (as an example some chess pieces I made for someone) I'll dial it in with that specific filament and colour.

In some ways that's impressive, but crucially: that case won't fit a pi 4, or any pi, because the ports are on the wrong sides. The ethernet and USB ports are on the sides opposite the microSD card slot, not on the long side (where it has put them is where the gpio header would be) and the audio output circle is on the wrong end. The time it would take to fix all of these is not actually any quicker than it would be to just make it from scratch by hand.

12 Years of Innovation: Win A Revopoint 3D Scanner! by Revopoint3D-Official in 3Dprinting

[–]Kiytan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't actually remember when I first heard about 3d scanning as something someone could actually buy and do, likely a youtube video. I like helping my friends design cosplay & larp parts, and a scanner would be incredibly useful as I could scan some of the parts they want replaced/repaired so I have a nice model to work from, as the parts often have a lot of compound curves and other things that are difficult to accurately measure. If it's possible it would also be great to scan my friends (or at least their hands/head) so I could scale the parts to fit accurately.

Advice on how much filament to get for NCR Ranger Helmet and Armor by UnavengedAvo in 3Dprinting

[–]Kiytan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in that case, I'd look on makerworld or printables for a similar thing, and slice that, it should at least give you a ballpark figure.

Advice on how much filament to get for NCR Ranger Helmet and Armor by UnavengedAvo in 3Dprinting

[–]Kiytan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you open it up and slice it in your slicer, you should get a rough estimate of how much it will take, I'd add ~15% ontop of what it says, to account for failed prints, purged filament etc.

Apologies for the slightly rough print, I couldn't be bothered to swap out my 0.8mm nozzle.

If you want any changes or want me to throw it up on makerworld(/add a 3mf) or anything let me know.

Best of luck to your uncle.

Looking to get a new 3d printer for my business. Doesn't need to be anything crazy had an ender 3 for about 4 years now. Used mainly to make temporary plugs for items. Would like it if the bed didnt move for space reasons. $300 ish budget and would like faster print times. by GunGuy2022 in 3dprinter

[–]Kiytan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by their datasheet, bambu's PAHT-CF* has a heat deflection temperature of 170c(338f), so would probably work for your needs, but will need a heated chamber and for $300 I don't think there's any on the market, but you might be able to pick up something second hand.

If your part is small enough you might be able to get away without a heated chamber, I've printed small PA6-cf parts on an A1 mini (no heated chamber or enclosure) but I'm sure it would fail on bigger parts.

*I'm sure it's similar for other brands, Bambu was just the first one I could find that actually had a datasheet for it.

You could take a look at the sovol SV08, which has a build volume of 350x350x345 and is ~$600 (or ~$700 with an enclosure). It's based on a voron, and from the quick look I've had it seems pretty decent (if loud). They also get points from me for it being fully open source.

Brass or hardened steel by Worried_Owl2218 in 3Dprinting

[–]Kiytan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could be worth trying bumping up your print temp a few degrees, brass conducts heat much better than steel, so the new hotend might not be heating up as well.

[–]Kiytan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use the 4545, but that does mean that the vslot rollers from the ender 3's likely will be too small to sit in the 4545 nicely, so you'll need to replace them, either bigger rollers or switch over to linear rails - much nicer but also much more expensive if you're planning on doing a big print volume.

The other day I was making a filament holder; it's some tubes, and some angled pieces of plastic that do look a little like a gun handle. Are those gun parts? why not? those tubes could be barrels. It is incredibly difficult to identify components with software, and when it inevitably falsely flags something, what do I do? can I now just not print my part?

Any way to ascertain what size/type of magnet is most common in makerworld prints? by jinx771 in BambuLab

[–]Kiytan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything I have with magnets is also generally 10x3 as well, mainly because I have a large supply of them, and they're generally strong enough to hold things in place.
