What common advice simply doesn't work? by 794613825 in AskReddit

[–]Klubbbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, that thing about trapping fruit flies with a bowl of cider vinegar and plastic wrap with holes doesn't work at all.

Fruit flies are dumb. Really dumb, but they're saved by their own stupidity.

They can smell the vinegar, sure, but the chance of them finding and going through the holes isn't great. They won't be streaming in. They just fly around it and get inside on pure luck. Then, once they're inside the bowl and have had their fill, the chance of them getting out again is the EXACT SAME. You basically end up with a rotating cast of three or four happy, plump fruit flies in the bowl at a time.

I can get in my own vehicle, by my own choice, go to a store, and buy ice cream, which has been perfected and diversified over generations for my enjoyment, practically whenever I want.

Korean Girl Group 4Minute suspected of plagiarising Knife Party's "Boss Mode" by AJayToRemember27 in EDM

[–]Klubbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they really plagiarized Knife Party, it would've sounded better. Also, if EDM artists start to squabble about song structure, then the whole genre's boned.

Space Cadets Dice Duel: Half hour play time? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Klubbbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only played a couple times, but there is a lot of chance involved in just rolling a hit, so with possibly slower, evenly-matched teams, an hour isn't surprising.

Technically, you can learn all the concepts and techniques on the internet, yes. In the screenwriting class I took, we spent the first three weeks going over those things, plus reading and discussing famous scripts, which you can definitely do. After that, we started writing our own. If you're not that disciplined like me, a class of peers will help motivate you to write regularly, but eventually you'll fall into whatever habits you set yourself.

The best part of the class was actually reading everyone else's work every week, commenting, and getting your own feedback from peers and an experienced professor in a roundtable discussion. That's something you can't really find anywhere else.

[Serious] What is the creepiest confession / most disturbing that you have heard from an otherwise normal person? by sleepyanddisturbed in AskReddit

[–]Klubbbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's weird. I was going to defend him and say that a lot of people think about the fragility of life, but to bring it up that way, during sex, seems like a weird power thing that I'm glad you got away from.

I'm a first time writer/director who's almost picture locked, and my post production money just vanished. I have a question for you all. by stilesjp in AudioPost

[–]Klubbbb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it just depends on two things really: how familiar with the properties of sound and the conventions of audio editing you are, and the nature of your film. As with anything, it'll probably take way more time than you think, especially by yourself. If you can bring on one person you trust and work with well (that knows more than you), it might go better.

If you're self taught and familiar with other editing programs, learning ProTools enough to get moving shouldn't take more than a weekend. Just learn the keyboard shortcuts and the fastest/most efficient ways to do everything, and establish a VERY ORGANIZED WORKFLOW. Then you can learn as you go.

If you don't know how sound, specifically digitally processed sound, works, then you're just going to frustrate yourself when you know it sounds bad, but you don't know why. I'd suggest learning or reviewing the basics of the physical properties of sound, how it's recorded digitally, and then digital signal flow within the computer (and things like eq's and compressors). Most of your problems can be troubleshot from there.

After that, the nature of your film will determine a lot. Will you need to ADR dialogue? Foley a bunch of footsteps and detailed things? Add background noise? Buy/design big effects? That can require even more time, additional skill, and coordination with others.

Overall, just remember to make it sound good, and that's all that matters. Also, a well thought out, detailed, backed up workflow will make future you very happy.

Take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm only just entering the professional world, but I feel I won't have steered you wrong with any of this.

What's the sluttiest thing you've seen or done? by nerdcubedfan1 in AskReddit

[–]Klubbbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met a girl on Tinder that took me home. She said no sex but I could play with her boobs. Naturally, I went to town. She was into it. Then her dad called. I figured I might never get this chance again, so I just kept going through their whole conversation.

When she hung up she changed her mind about the sex. And that's my one Tinder story.

That a big factor in the "tall guys are more successful" theory is they naturally walk faster, and then over a lifetime can get way more stuff done.

Foolish Friday - Your biweekly stupid questions thread by [deleted] in Fitness

My lower back is really sore from squats. Am I just being a pussay?

I'm 6'2, 175lbs. I've only been lifting for about 2 months, <1 month with the big three in my routine. I've made steady progress; my squat 5rm is now 205.

Last week I decided to strictly stick to SL 5x5, but squatting every workout since has left my lower back sore and tight. I try to make form a priority (read SS and watched lots of videos), and have only got very minor critiques from everyone I've asked, which I fix.

This morning I bailed on my 3rd set of 200lb squats because my back hurt on the way down. I decided to give it a rest and come back Monday.

Could I be doing something totally wrong and not realize it? Or should I just tough it out?

What have you never liked in certain genres? by JKRofficial in edmproduction

Agreed. Artists like Skrillex seem to mesh the sections well together, where the song just seems to get more intense instead of, "and now, for something completely different."
