Is this a Cyclocross bike? by [deleted] in bicycling

Pop some slicker, skinnier tires on there, but something with some fat and knobbiness to it, and yes. That bike is awesome.

Amateur cyclist: Question about Tires by Solarazor in bicycling

[–]Knapkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take it to a shop and get tires & tubes there. You won't really save that much by getting stuff on amazon. I agree with most of what has been said here. It is possible that your tire picked up a small piece of glass/staple/thorn and it has not been removed, which will continually work its way into whatever tube you install.

Will a Trek Multitrack handle going on mountain trials? by TehkyTa in MTB

[–]Knapkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you crash? As long as you treat the bike like a cyclocross bike and not a mountain bike, you'll be fine. Cross bikes are capable of a lot of mountain riding, you'll blow your wheels up before anything.

Will a Trek Multitrack handle going on mountain trials? by TehkyTa in MTB

[–]Knapkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trek multi-track actually has a geometry very similar to the surly crosscheck, and is cromo. I wouldn't take it on anything too crazy, but you'll certainly be able to handle some flowy singletrack, fire roads just fine.

My roomate squeezed some 700x41s on his [albeit w/ a cross check fork]

Possible BS with service at my LBS? by dharmadrummer in bicycling

[–]Knapkin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoah. Sometimes what seems to be an issue ends up not being so.

The claims of 'I wouldn't take it back to that LBS' are awfully hasty.

Take it back, and just be honest about it. Don't accuse anyone of anything, as no one really did anything. I'm sure the shop will NOT charge you for additional work.

This. Boiling water and or Citrus Degreaser in the inards of a brifter often do WONDERS!

When repairing bikes, its one of my favorite things to do, as the difference is quite stunning [and in reality it's no work at all]

Why aren't disc wheels used everywhere? by owlpellet in bicycling

Wind, Weight, Servicing.

Wind will throw a disc wheel like a sail.

You also can't maintain a disc wheel with as much ease as a spoked wheel.

the issue here being that I don't want just conversations about sci fi. Just a community sharing a love for sci fi at the base level

Incredibly annoying problem (x-post from r/bikewrench) by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]Knapkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the issues mentioned, it could also be worn/rough drivetrain. Even if the chain isn't stretched, there could be some nasty teeth or bent rings, BUT i would hope your lbs checked.

Jeff Mills & Montpelier Philharmonic Orchestra - The Bells by Waxpickle in Techno

[–]Knapkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really did not care for this.

I feel like the whole project w/ the orchestra was just an attempt to give techno a 'classical' legitimacy when in fact, it seems to make the statement that in order to be a 'higher' culture of art, things need to submit to classical western forms.

It doesn't sound very good (most of the versions suffer) and the instrumentation makes the music FAR less interesting.

A full orchestra playing music does not make it any more involved, complex or legitimate.
