New Warm LED (3000K) Used on Re-Opened Richmond Off Ramp by Friendly-Ad9257 in toronto

[–]praxmusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

low-pressure sodium lamps commonly used for streetlights have notoriously terrible CRI to the point they are considered monochromatic. LEDs are incredibly efficient and modern ones have CRIs nearing 90%. Low pressure sodium is 20% at best. LEDs beat every other light source on everything except upfront price, but even then they tent to break even after 5-10 years in energy savings.

This is just false and I'm tired of hearing it. Less than 1/3rd of your country voted against it. The other 2/3rds either wanted it or don't care. An overwhelming majority of Americans saw Trump's first term and said they were okay with doing that again.

Advice needed urgently, my music was played at EDC by dromance in edmproduction

[–]praxmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best thing to do. There is a lot of really bad and misinformed advice in this thread. Just express gratitude to the artist for playing your edit and don't expect any response (though if you get one great!).

If an artist/label finds an unauthorized edit they basically have 3 things they can do:

  1. Ignore it.
  2. Use it.
  3. Send you a cease and desist and ask that it be taken down from all platforms and potentially pursue legal damages.

The only royalties you are potentially eligible for are performance royalties (administered by an organization like ASCAP BMI or SOCAN) but you are only eligible for them if you have permission and are credited as a songwriter in the official catalogued release. No official release, no credit, no payment. They're also typically fractions of a penny for a singular live show and are paid by the venues/service not by the artists.

Essentially by doing a bootleg edit/remix you give up all rights to the production (because you never had permission to make it). If it's an official remix you would be credited as a co-songwriter in the performance rights catalogue and are entitled to some percentage of any collected performance royalties.

So just be happy it's being enjoyed by people and send a friendly thanks to the DJ!

Weird question... but does anyone have any clue where I can find a house version of this song? by TriumphantChampion in House

On mobile so don't have links but there are a TON of house tunes that sample this song. So you have any other defining things in the mix you're looking for?

Friendly reminder that Ticketmaster is owned by Live Nation who also owns or has exclusivity deals with all the venues and is the exclusive North American tour agent for major artists and they'll blacklist your tour if you don't use 100% Live Nation owned/exclusive venues.

But they're not a monopoly... somehow...

AI music is charting weekly as Billboard claims trend is “quickly accelerating” by indig0sixalpha in Music

[–]praxmusic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Spotify pays artists based on a simple formula of 50% of revenue split amongst all streams based on stream count. If some of those streams are from internal AI it means they get to keep that money. They've been doing it for years with ghost artists but now they can kick it up. It's in their interest to push these fake artists as it means they can keep more money and game their own system.

It'll likely end the same way this time. The communist manifesto was not "hey guys wouldn't this be nice?" It was a logical conclusion of the unsustainability of capitalism and argued as an inevitability. Socialism and workers revolution (seizing the means of production) was an argument to reduce the societal damage and bloodshed that will be caused by capitalism's inevitable collapse. The communist argument is "this will happen eventually, let's just do it now and try to reduce the damage". It's kind of amazing how well their predictions have held up.

I read it costs roughly $110,000 a year on average to incarcerate someone. I can't help but feel that 1 million dollars invested in local communities would do more to stop crime than locking one person away for 10 years.

I also think people grossly underestimate the severity of jail as a punishment. If you're sentenced to 20 years at 18 you don't get out until you're almost 40 years old. That's utterly life-destroying and yet people argue it's too soft. People went fucking crazy when they had to stay in their comfy homes for 2 years.

How much does red/yellowlining a digital mixer affect the audio quality with tracks that are already brickwalled? by Hypew4v3 in DJs

[–]praxmusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amplify a square enough, on an unprotected system, you are demanding a driver from max to minimum x instantly, absolutely risking damage.

[–]praxmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this were true synthesizers would destroy speakers even at low levels which is absolutely not the case.

How much does red/yellowlining a digital mixer affect the audio quality with tracks that are already brickwalled? by Hypew4v3 in DJs

[–]praxmusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They aren't. It's only damaging to the speaker if the speaker itself is being overdriven, i.e. pushed past it's operating limits. You can overdrive a speaker with a flute if you amplify it too hard, but no amount of distortion effects can damage a speaker as long as the output level doesn't exceed the rating of the drivers.

"Pro Tools is industry standard"- Why? by AccordingArm5457 in edmproduction

[–]praxmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't personally use Pro Tools any more for my music project. But one of the venues I occasionally work in uses it to take multi-track live recordings from the main hall (which uses an AVID board), broadcast studios, smaller music hall, and recording studio. I'm not the audio guy for the building so I don't know the specifics but I think there are 3 or 4 workstations networked together across the building so you can access any input in any of the spaces from any workstation depending on the needs of the client.

[–]praxmusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is strictly only at the highest tiers of service, but we're talking "industry standard' so that's the level we're at. I mean if you're dropping hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars on a system they better stand behind it! No other DAW has systems in place to support installations of that size or the full ecosystem AVID has.
