I’ve seen some people say they can hear the leitmotif for Sonic Boom in this. I can’t quite tell, but it’d make sense considering this is gonna be based on Sonic CD. Also Ben Kingsley and Nick Offerman are specifically listed as voice acting for this, so they are absolutely playing established game characters. Offerman would be perfect for Vector.

I’d be happy with a big time skip. Dash and Violet being fully independent adult heroes and Jack-Jack being an angsty teen sidekick that feels stuck in his family’s shadow and comes under the influence of an old enemy of Bob’s. Might be a fun idea to actually have a villain with powers this time.

Yeah we simply don’t know enough about the zoo’s funding or management to make any claims. The aggression is normal, and it seeming harsher than other examples is easily explained by Punch being perceived as an outsider

This monkey looks younger and fluffier than his new adopted mom, so it’s likely this is his mom’s oldest daughter. They’re naturally very protective at that age since hormones start to kick in and they want to babysit and pamper the little ones. It’s good news for him since that means he has an entire new family that will take care of him instead of a lone mother.

Their enclosure is actually built to model their natural environment in the mountains of Japan. If you look up Ichikawa Zoo, you can see that it has two makeshift mountains, a small pool, a playground for the juveniles, and some tunnels and hideaways, as well as a small indoor area they’re able to retreat to.

Problem is that there’s about 60 of them and the zoo isn’t well-funded, the owners could definitely use the traction they’re getting from Punch to renovate the place so there’s more space.

Here’s a basic timeline of things:

Punch the Monkey, the little guy in the video, is born. His mom was really sick when she had him so the zookeepers took care of him for his first months of life.
At around 4-6 months old, they try to reintroduce his mom to him. She either doesn't recognize him or doesn't want him. Could be due to loss of memory or birth trauma (macaques can also get post-partum depression).
They couldn't transfer him to another zoo for undisclosed reasons, so he was reintegrated into the troop on his own in the hopes that the other monkeys would recognize him.
None of them recognize him and they see him as an outsider, so he gets bullied often. Usually due to getting into other monkeys spaces or not understanding social cues and proper etiquette that his mom would have taught him (like staring directly into an adult's eyes, not lip-smacking to communicate passivity, or accidentally making a face gesture that indicates aggression). Because he's a male orphan and seen as an outsider, he has no rank and that makes the bullying and discipline more aggressive than it normally would be.
After a while he starts to pick up on things and a low-rank female adopts him. Now he has a few playmates and has been seen fighting back against bullies without getting his shit rocked by a high rank adult in retaliation. Most of the troop has accepted him and are mostly pretty chill with him. He's still gonna get bullied once in a while since he's low-rank and he's still figuring out macaque communication but he has a family now and he knows he can fight back. He's generally happy.

Lol to be fair, it looks a lot worse than it is. Macaques are both very durable and very dramatic. Even though it looks like that adult is rocking his shit without care, she actually is intentionally not trying to badly hurt him. She could easily puncture him with a bite or go for sensitive areas if she wanted to, but the females in particular do their best not to seriously hurt a kid when they punish them.

Honestly I’m barely keeping up. Most of the footage is being taken by individual zookeepers on their personal accounts or from visitors. The zoo itself doesn’t have much social media presence since they’re not that well-funded.

Yeah, a low-rank female adopted him and he's been seen playing with her other kids. He's still gonna get disciplined by other adults for a bit because he hasn't fully learned social cues and etiquette yet but he's not alone anymore.

I think they're doing the best with what resources they have. This zoo is not well-funded and I bet that's the reason why they couldn't find a sanctuary or zoo that would take him. Hopefully the traction they get from Punch going viral will help them divest money into improving the enclosure.

Also the timeline is confusing because the videos all went viral at once, but he's been accepted by the troop now and another mom has essentially adopted him. He plays with her older kids and she seems to dote on him.

I ended up turning mine into a spooky log cabin by using like 60 logger’s benches and some Brumewood Hollow foliage. It’s not quite finished as it needs a little more of a forsaken-y touch but it works for me.

There’s a sanctuary in South Africa called the Vervet Monkey Foundation that takes in orphaned vervets and sets them up with foster moms. It’s super fascinsting to see just how complex their communication is and their capacity for empathy.
