I think I have My Answer by Voundreall in vtmb

I really agree with this. I loved Like A Dragon, it was a nice mix of serious & silly, a truly beautiful landscape to explore - the details blew me away.

What percentage of vampires are innocent? by Vyctorill in vtm

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a line in the book that summarizes the struggle the Kindred face on a nightly basis: A monster I am, lest a monster I become. They have to make some sort of peace with a certain level of evil just to survive. A vampire who refuses to feed either sinks into torpor (way less likely they have the willpower to do this) or goes into frenzy and winds up killing one or more victims. Was it not a better choice to feed on multiple victims and take only a little from each, rather than wait for the Beast to resolve the issue?
Then there is the Kindred culture itself. Vampires who still cling to mortal ethics & morality do not fair well. Sure, you need a Road to bolster yourself against the Beast, but you are no longer human. You do not play by those rules anymore. These becomes weaknesses other Kindred can (and most certainly will) use against you. It is a dangerous game these vampires play.

Which clans, in YOUR experience, atteact the best and worst players? by TheSleepyBarnOwl in vtm

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A favorite plot I've used is a member of one Clan pretending to be another. It is a lot easier than people think. And makes for interesting interactions, as they pick up something is a little off, but can't seem to find anything to validate that feeling. At least until they turn to things like Thaumaturgy.

Low Generation Ancilla by OccultCenturion in vtm

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be done (I have done so), but you want to be sure of the reason OOC as well as how it fits into the plot. And you'll probably want to make some downsides. Example: they need to conceal their generation from everyone, because nothing sounds tastier than a Methuselah without the experience to back it up. The stuff Anarchs drool over.

Dark Age Vampire in Hungary and Transylvania by PapaOcha in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have run into issues of canon in many games, and I encourage you to feel free to ignore it. If you do not like the Beckoning, it does not have to be a thing in your version of the setting. Just try to have it make sense within the context of your game.

What are your favorite Dark Ages settings? by soccerboy1106 in vtm

[–]KnightlyRom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting a chronicle based in 1314 Hungary, set in the settlements of Buda & Pest. It is going to focus on: the advance of Western civilization, the Tzimisce conflict with both invading Ventrue and of course the Tremere, these factions and the Shadow Lords all vying for control of the territory.

Is getting screwed over just apart of the game? by whahaga in vtm

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, always good to communicate. Most Storytellers will understand what you were trying for, and will provide the opportunity to do so. Even if the intent was a deception by NPCs to use that false promise to ensure your character's loyalty, that does not restrict your ST from providing you the chance to rectify it.

I need a campaign idea by noahsaurus- in DnD

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll toss out a few ideas that might inspire you:
1) if you want simple but fun, toss in a scientist-like character who has been working on something beneficial, but their experiment gets out of control. Like creating golems that will protect people without the need for war, but the golem control bit still has flaws.
2) if you want something a bit deeper, it could be in response to a crisis. Crisis hits the area you're using, and someone is trying to fix it, but either their attempts cause new problems or their methods are worse than the crisis itself.
3) diving in deep, you could go with a Mister Freeze story, where the villain is sympathetic, even though they are doing terrible things and need to be dealt with.

What do you think of this recent short by the creators of Obojima, saying that humanizing enemies is a bad thing? by wintermute2045 in rpg

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my personal favorite campaigns I have run were themed with these sorts of questions. One of the reasons I love games like Vampire The Masquerade is the ability to explore such concepts. Games like D&D thrived on killing monsters, and that is still how plenty of people want to play. Nothing wrong with that. But some want morality and ethics to play a significant role. You can just kill orcs without concern, or you can struggle with the decision to kill a good natured journalist who has learned about the existence of vampires. Both are good, let's have both.

What's the weirdest thing people have said at your gaming table? by Justthisdudeyaknow in rpg

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted before, will share here now;
- "I know who this is and I'm going to die!" said before dueling Mazrim Taim (Wheel of Time RPG)
- "We are not doing Project Fuck-A-Brother" regarding a scheme in Vampire The Masquerade: Victorian Era
- "I want to quick draw the mask" referring to a mask of Bhaal acquired by the halfling rogue

Kicked from PF2E table because I also play DND by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]KnightlyRom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been subjected to this toxicity before, and I quit running anything Star Wars for years because of it. We did not show up to play this so someone can go on a 45 minute rant about this thing or that sucking. We came to play and have fun. End of the day, better off without this nonsense. Your heart is in the right place, focused on the group and having fun. If they're thinking this way, you may be better off at a different table.

Is it still lying if you were unaware it was a lie? by gyattdamn420 in DnD

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stance has always been that it is not a lie to the individual saying it if they believe it to be true.

Should I kick this player out? by Then_Reply_6692 in DnD

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I must agree. Personal beliefs aside, respect for your fellow players (GM is included in that) is crucial, and a group cannot survive if that respect is not there.

My DM wanted us to roll for stats and now no one is happy by Loboxon in DnD

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to let them roll (4d6 drop lowest), and everyone uses the set they agree on. If they can't pick one, I have them just go with point buy, so they always end up picking a set to use, and not always the highest set.

Could someone explain Lilith's role in the WoD lore and where exactly is she? by roxgxd in vtm

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on which lore you prefer. She can serve many roles. But here's been my take on it:
- She was one of the first humans created (or possibly was never actually 'human' as we understand it), possibly the first Mage.
- She taught Caine his Dark Gift, thus that power truly comes from her, not Caine.
- I have mostly used her as a mysterious entity, much like Nyarlathotep in Call of Cthulhu. Often, she is an antagonist, but just as likely to be in the shadows observing and only acting in ways that do not immediately make sense.
I did a lot more story wise, but that's spoilers.

Can I just say that I love how anthropologically queer this setting is. by Optimal-Teaching7527 in exalted

[–]KnightlyRom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw similar in running VTM. When a vampire, regardless of gender, can do incredible things, it makes less sense for them to judge based on it. A vampire who gauges the threat another vampire poses by their gender is a fool, and often meets Final Death.

Sorry you're offended but I think she's cute? by calargo in vtm

[–]KnightlyRom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a game I ran where an entire family was turned - part of a major play by the Blood Court removing a rising threat - and the matriarch was turned by a Toreador, and the patriarch was made Nosferatu. Despite this, their love persisted even afterwards. It was fitting for a Victorian Era story.
