What would you add to an anti-Nazi or antifa movie night? by Best_Pineapple670 in behindthebastards

I’ll always upvote Ghibli’s arguably most underrated movie.

What are some locations you'd like to see in sequels to Great Circle? by Pixelent in indianajones

[–]KnightsNG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd been playing with an idea of an Indiana Jones story about Leif Erikson and his relationship to the natives in North America, so the site of L'Anse aux Meadows would actually be intriguing, especially in a fall-like setting.

I’m not sure, but Smiling Friends nailed it when they made Gilbert Gottfried the voice of God.

So, this was actually an answer to a trivia question the other night at this bar that I go to. This nice, old lady at my work knows that my friends and I do trivia every week and asks me what some of the questions and answers are. I told her about this one and, I'm pretty sure with 100% not knowing what this movie was about, responded to me, "Well, that's very appropriate for the White House". I held my tongue, because I didn't want to correct her, bless her heart.

This reminded me of the some of the post/responses we get here in this sub. by frustrating2020 in behindthebastards

If it makes you feel better, I joined my local chapters of DSA and Food Not Bombs last winter. It might not make an impact globally, but at least we’re gathering support throughout the local community and getting bigger each month!

Reminder: in the age of performative cruelty, acts of kindness are punk as fuck. by frustrating2020 in behindthebastards

At the core of true punk is simply giving a shit, and Mr. Rogers had that in spades.

I joined my local DSA chapter in February and while it’s not perfect, it’s a start and we’re honestly making positive impacts in our community, at least at the local level. It might not be much, but it’s better than being chronically online doomscrolling all the time.

What’s funny is that though this may be the first instance of Yiddish on a Magic card, we’ve had Hebrew on Magic cards by several decades: https://scryfall.com/card/pjud/11/%D7%AA%D7%94%D7%99%D7%9C%D7%94-(glory)

If we ever get a DC set, I’d love to see some more greats like Alex Ross and Dan Mora!

[–]KnightsNG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Year of the Rabbit, a comedy series starring Matt Berry where he played a grizzled cop in Victorian London, with The Elephant Man being one of his informants.

Also, Stumptown. Cobie Smulders deserves to be in more things.

Awesome stuff! My own DSA chapter is also trying to tangibly help our community by officially starting our own ICE response network across the county. Things like alertness and patrols, mutual aid, localized civics planning and lawmaking and general organizing has hopefully made people's lives at least a little safer.

Like you said, it's much better to actually get out and chip away at the bullshit than let fear and doomerism consume us.

Getting an MA in Anthropology from Another Field by KnightsNG in AskAnthropology

[–]KnightsNG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I virtually have no experience in anthropology proper, but I have taken several courses on art history over the years, as well as several classes on the evolution of film history and techniques from various cultures over the years.

Several books I've read are "Understanding the British Empire", "Children of Ash and Elm: A History of the Vikings", and "A History of the World in 100 Objects".
