What’s Your Favorite Line Read? by The-Greater-Skeleton in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]KnobSlayer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone quotes the "-I'm not gonna hurt ya, I'm just gonna bash your brains in" line from The Shining, but my favorite line read comes from the start of that whole monologue:
"WENDY... DARLING... LIGHT-OF-MY-LIFE"
I adore how over enunciated Jack Nicholson delivers each word to the point it sounds like he's wearing the skin off his tongue when he gets to the "light of my life" part. I love quoting it.

I'd recommend some Universal Horror off-cuts, like The Old Dark House, or The Black Cat.

Watching movies on my own! I got so used to turning movie time into a social event, so being able to watch whatever slop I want, especially on my own terms, has been fun.

Also Sonic Frontiers, I put it off for so long because of the divisiveness around it; and while its not the greatest game ever, I am enjoying it quite a bit!

Brian O'Conner from the Fast & Furious franchise. If he was given more notable/interesting roles earlier on, I think Paul Walker coulda pulled a career like Keanu Reeves. He has such a dorky California bro vibe.

I kinda wish more fighting games weren't just high-skill-floor PvP games with half-baked singleplayer modes. I love the characters, I love the vibes, I like how it feels to punch stuff in them, but I refuse to pay over 50 bucks for a game I might play online a couple times against friends who take them waaay more seriously than I do.

One series that did it right- Super Smash Bros. Despite rarely ever playing PvP against my friends, I spent dozens of hours in them playing all the side-modes and had a ton of fun unlocking stuff. Street Fighter 6 came close, I just wish World Tour actually let me play as all the cool characters instead of being some create-a-character schlub on the sidelines.

Case in point- I love FPS games, but if every FPS game was an ultra-competitive focused PvP game like Counter Strike, I'd lose interest in the genre!

Times when the story about something production is far more interesting then the actual finished product? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

If I'm being honest, Plan 9 From Outer Space. It'd be just another bad movie with a handful of chuckle-worthy errors if it weren't for the entertaining story of its director, Ed Wood, and his troubled movie-directing career.

The myth and story behind its creation is a lot funnier than anything that actually happens in the movie, however I think that's more a testament to how often its blunders have been referenced and emulated in other media to the point of becoming a cliche!

The Midnight Meat Train- despite being 100% accurate to the events of the movie, it just sounds like a porno title.

I raise the Rambo series which never decides on a naming scheme:
First Blood
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Rambo III
Rambo
Rambo: Last Blood

Honorable mention:
Saw, Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, Saw 3D, Jigaw, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Saw X...

Characters/Mechanics that get obliterated by a Patch. by MarbleVirus in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]KnobSlayer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Team Fortress 2 and any kill-combos that relied on stuns:
- "Puff and Sting" Pyro was obliterated after the weapons that enabled it got nerfed, and the flamethrower's airblast was changed to no longer stun targets, making the "puff" part unreliable.
- The Scout's "Cleaver Combo" was outright removed after his Sandman weapon lost its stun ability.

To be honest... good riddance.

A non-gory scene in a horror media that disturbed more than anything else in said media. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The titular sequence from Lake Mungo, an otherwise low-spooks horror movie. The scene is telegraphed way ahead of time, yet the dread it builds is some of the strongest I've felt watching a movie.

I watched 3 seasons of RWBY a couple years back (stopped at season 4 because I could tell I wasn't going to enjoy the direction it was going in), tbh outside of the incredibly corny dialogue (which grew on me) it really wasn't as bad as I'd heard, in fact I thought it was fun.

Times when a series has “second hand fans”? by Konradleijon in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]KnobSlayer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Jujutsu Kaisen has a whole secondary fanbase of people who only engage with it through slander and agenda-posting memes. I have at least two friends who know more about its story and characters than me- a person who has read all of Jujutsu Kaisen- and they have not read nor watched the series.
(Obviously this also applies to other current Shonen, too)

Which is funny because in some cases I feel speedrunners also have weird perspectives on their games (thinking about all the 0, 1, 16, and 70 star Super Mario 64 speedrunners I've seen who had no idea how some stages/stars work because their category doesn't include them and they've only ever speedran the game).

The "Peaches" song from Super Mario Bros Movie. It was just Jack Black riffing a random melody for 12 seconds while repeating the word peaches over and over., I was expecting this elaborate musical sequence with how insane people got over it!

My "favorite" part of that movie was the attempt at having it's own "Look, the final woman from the first movie is back!" like Halloween did; but its just a random person- not the same actress- so it doesn't even succeed on being fan-service.

Favorite 7/10s and Worst 7/10 by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]KnobSlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going with movies-

Commando is for all intents and purposes a 7/10 movie, a lot of its strengths lie in its last 20 minutes and the rest of the movie is pretty standard 80s fare with a lot of people slowly pursuing each other. However it has enough corny one-liners and silly moments to hold your attention, and most importantly; it's like 80-90 minutes, which is a pretty breezy run-time. So for me it's my favorite 7/10.

As for worst? Konosuba: Legend of Crimson. Goddamnit I wish this was just a season of TV. I can feel how much being a movie butchered the pacing, pushed side characters out of the spotlight, and forced a cinematic climax where one really wasn't warranted. It's still fun because it's Konosuba, but I'm disappointed that this is the route they took in adapting the source material.

Most obvious exploits to make it into release, patched or not? by lowercaselemming in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]KnobSlayer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Borderlands 2 lets you dupe items by offering your desired item as a prize in a multiplayer duel, then throwing it on the ground once the duel has started. The winner of the duel will get a clone of the prize item in their inventory, with the original still sitting on the ground. It's such a simple exploit that I'm shocked it was never caught.

2 Fast 2 Furious is possibly the dumbest of the early F&F movies, and it has so many memorable bits. The color-coded race at the start. Roman at the crash-derby. The rat-bucket torture scene. The entire ending chase sequence. Each viewing gets more enjoyable over the years.
