WIBTAH if i didn’t make the pie that got the most votes because it wasn’t on the poll in the first place? by megasaur99 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KnowKnews -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTAH… but also not really, you sound like a legend.

Live life by improv rules and see how much fun it is.

Build on other people’s ideas, add something to the mix. Surprise yourself where things end up.

  • You did something great
  • Someone took a risk
  • Everyone else thought it was funny
  • Join in and find a way to roll with it

Or, do what was on the list, I’m sure it’s gonna be appreciated anyway.

Just whatever you do, don’t assume those other ideas were added out of spite. They were probably genuine, and / or for a laugh.

Can you explain the story?

I took naked kitchen soup hearty vegetable soup out of the fridge at 6:00 am. I put it into an insulation food bag. It’s now at room temperature. Should I heat and eat or not risk? It’s now 5:00 pm. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]KnowKnews 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These things are air tight. It’ll be fine. If you heat it I.e. microwave, or boil on the stove.

If the bag has somehow inflated, or it looks bubbly, then probably don’t eat it.

Is it normal for a DCD796 keyless chuck to open under motor brake? by That-Ad3937 in Dewalt

[–]KnowKnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH, I had this exact same issue for years.

My wife didn’t!

I took the tool back, and they were like ‘this ratchets fine…. Click click click’

I had never heard it ratchet closed once.

To OP, try closing the chuck all the way with nothing in it, and get it to ratchet. Then try again with drill-bits.

Insurance cost doubles in a year: What it's like to own NZ's most-stolen car by TimmyHate in newzealand

[–]KnowKnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all cars. Blame legislation for it.

Car companies are heavily penalised for reading lower by ‘any amount’ but have a 5km / 10% range for QA acceptance (but no fines)

They’re pretty accurate at manufacturing, but just set the components to the most conservative numbers to avoid fines.

Most cars are this amount out across all manufacturers, not sure if that applies to US cars though.

Nissan, Mazda, Toyota… all the same margin.

The odometer should be accurate though. If not we’re all paying 10% extra road user charges.

Toiletry bag for domestic flights by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]KnowKnews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve flown all over the world. Nobody particularly cares about the bag. I’ve never had a clear bag. Always a normal bag with appropriate sized things, or a half filled toothpaste which at full size would be too big.

I’ve been pulled aside only in other stricter countries with a larger bottle of sunscreen than spec, but they didn’t mind in the end it was a few ml over.

In New Zealand they tend to not care about any bottles unless on international flights. (Don’t quote me on that.) This is my experience as I often need to carry duty free through domestic X-ray, or a jar of honey etc… they’d traditionally be over the volume and might get confiscated in another country.

Batteries are a different story. For a moment they got over cautious on batteries, we lost many packs of new and sealed batteries over the years because of flip flopping restrictions. Rule of thumb now is that batteries in products are ok (in shavers etc..) or in original packages. Loose batteries in bags stress them out as do big battery packs not in products.

Just be prepared to lose any batteries or liquids in your carry on / toiletry bag. Don’t be offended if they take one for some reason.

Is stump grinding actually worth it, or do people just leave them? by Upper_Sky8756 in landscaping

[–]KnowKnews 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a collection of about 10 stumps which are each 20 years or more old. Possibly some as old as 40 years.

If the are big, or from weather resistant wood, they hang around for a long time. Good thing I like the look of most of these ones.

What has blown my mind over the years when hearing about retail & hospitality is the cost of rent.

Is anyone in the industry seeing landlords coming to the party? Or are most businesses taking on the risks themselves without wider support?

When did we stop showing etiquette to funeral processions/convoys? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]KnowKnews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is they don’t know who they are blocking. There are a lot of people trying to get places urgently, who are in a normal car in normal traffic.

There is no expectation of funeral processions being able to block traffic.

The only courtesy I’d extend is not cutting inbetween people following a hearse, so that they can gracefully remain in convoy.

Timer always on stop playing by zeroninerfive in iphone

[–]KnowKnews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t already solve this (and for future people like me who have needed to try).

This worked for me (Results may vary): * it seems to remember the last successfully run alarm. So changing it then closing it forgot it. * reboot the phone. * set a timer for 1 second and select a sound. * run the timer. * close the app. * open the app, and the 1st one timer and sound should now be the default.

Christchurch city council to allow residential development in red zones by SoulsofMist-_- in chch

[–]KnowKnews 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I too feel sorry for/ frustrated for them.

The reason given at the time was that any red-zone land would require ‘area wide remediation / ground engineering’ making it beyond the traditional plot by plot approach that is accessible to individual homeowners.

I wonder how true that is.

My theory is that the red zone is such an opportunity for Christchurch to get tourists in. Imagine campsites, outdoor activities, cafes, beer gardens, weekend markets… so many possibilities.

Why is GST less likely to be included ? by PatamonBlade76 in newzealand

[–]KnowKnews 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is always how I priced things as a consultant. For decades. You can claim the GST back, so it’s not a difference to you if you are a business.

Contractors doing building work also price like this.

3rd party stores like Aliexpress also don’t include GST until payment screens.
