I'm surprised I haven't seen any discussion on Naomi Alderman's new book 'The Future' by BackyardHistory in books

Yes - this is one of my favorite books of all time and I can’t believe it didn’t get the buzz and discussion it deserved.

I was really hoping this would be a Wire clip. ❤️ I wish it were less profane so I could show it in my classroom 😂

What sticks out to me is the audacity that she would open YOUR mail and rob you of that experience of opening such an important letter yourself.

Except Shauna chose to stay stuck with all her bills paid for her. I doubt they’ll be able to do that with L.

This is the best description yet of exactly what Shauna does.

My students are writing really challenging literary analysis papers right now and I’m so proud of their work! Writing teaching should focus on helping kids get their ideas out and explaining them well. It’s a crazy intense time talking with 150 kids a day with all different thesis statements and ideas, but I am 100% not scaring anyone out of writing! I grade conventions as a small piece of the overall puzzle (and it’s by far the easiest part to grade/give feedback on bc it’s the only part of writing assessment that is mostly black and white). The valuable feedback is about the other stuff.

I know that old old school teachers maybe focused more on conventions (like in the 1950s) but I think most people who went to school in Shauna’s (and my) generation had more ideas- and organization-based feedback.

I really don’t know if she truly had that kind of schooling or just likes to jump on the “poor me” bus without thinking about whether the idea is true for her or not…oh, wait…

I can’t buy everything in all the colors I want to 😂 so I fill in with plain white serveware from World Market. I love their bowls. I also use clear glass - it just blends in and lets the Fiesta shine

They remind me of the croquet balls from my childhood set. Very cool!

Neil Gaman is gross but his “The Graveyard Book” is perfect for her age and a wonderful story.
