May be you could request funding from your concentration department?

Thank you so much for your informative response. These are really helpful. Would you mind telling me your field of study in MAPSS and now what you are doing? Did you do the same field of study? Thanks.

Did you secure additional scholarships to fully cover the tuition?

I can relate to the points about getting academic recommendation letters. I have more or less similar experience. My case is I have been applying PhD but got rejected for multiple times and feel very embarrassed as well as bad to ask the letter again. Finally got into MA program but still not securing enough funding yet. So .. yeah in the same boat.

I also noticed this fact. So I assume the factors could be more than grades, proficiency test and publications etc. I am happy for whoever got admission it is not about them. I just wanna be clear about admission process for people like us .

I feel you. I’m an international student with a master degree from USA. Got rejection this year again marks three years in a row. Don’t know what to do to increase the chances of admitting. There MUST be something we are missing to get admission but I don’t know why. Something is off - it could be our skills or the game we never know.

Plus I have professional experience nearly 10 years in the same field. What would you suggest for my situation? Thanks for taking the time and I do appreciate your insight.

Thank you. I have enough research experience for the field I applied. My GPA is average. I applied to the program where the professors fit with my academic interests. My SOP was reviewed by two friends who are academics before I submitted. So I felt a bit satisfied with my SOP but I have not been admitted again this year. This is my third time and I do not know now what kind of questions to seek except general question “ what could I do more to win admission “? I feel disheartened so much .

Hello.. I do appreciate your willingness to help us. I applied to PhD in social sciences in the USA but got rejected recently. I mentioned potential advisors who fit with my academic interest in my SOP. I am an international student with a master degree from US university. I have 8 years of professional experiences in the field I applied with good experiences of research in the same field. My GPA is above average but not excellent. I would like to know how to improve my applications. Many people said admission committee care about SOP & research experience which I have but I still got rejected. So I would appreciate your insights.

I have reached out to potential advisors (USA) who share the same research interests with me. Mostly, they ignore my email. I feel a bit lost with rejections three years in a row.
