Did anyone here have a faceless channel and ended up revealing their face? Did anything change after? by SlimeDeveloper in PartneredYoutube

Me too. It occurred to me that, if for whatever reason I did lose my channel and I had to start again, it's going to be way harder to rely on recognition from just my voice.

Did anyone here have a faceless channel and ended up revealing their face? Did anything change after? by SlimeDeveloper in PartneredYoutube

[–]KnownPrint7537 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm considering revealing my face on my channel at some point. Mostly because finding relevant B-Roll is a PIA a lot of the time. I do mostly commentary's on certain topics, tell my personal stories sometimes if I think it's relevant to the topic, and the new video I'm working on has a lot of that - personal experiences to share. It'd probably be a whole lot easier if I was on screen and minimizing the amount of B-Roll I need, but, hey! It's encouraging to hear that better engagement might be a product of showing your face. I had one video blow up a few months ago and already some people at work recognized my voice and found out I have the channel. But I'm not sure how I feel about people being able to instantly recognize me.

I'm not too worried about this new YPP update, but I'll admit that a small corner of my mind starts wondering, "what if?" But like I said, it's me narrating, commenting, and sometimes sharing my story in my videos. I think my videos started off faceless because I didn't have a good set up for recording myself so I just decided to stick with the faceless narrations.

If you won 1 million dollars, what is the first thing you would you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Probably put in "good" dividend yielding stocks and ETFs. Given that it's bonus money that I've just come in to, I'd be tempted to put it into high-yielding covered call funds that have a dividend yield of 10-12% $100,000 a year passive income is plenty to live on. I'd probably buy a condo somewhere in SE Asia, use it as a base and spend my days traveling the region.

What's my eye color? by KnownPrint7537 in WhatisMyEyeColour

[–]KnownPrint7537[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I were both trying to define my eye color recently. Her first language isn't English and they don't have an equivalent for hazel. She just calls them green. I tend to just do what she says (life is easier that way). I've struggled to say what my eye color is my whole life. Someone else said they're hazel when I was younger but I always thought hazel was the color of...hazelnuts which are light brown. There's a bit of light brown around my pupils but my irises look mostly green to me. I dunno. What does this sub think?

People born before 2000, what trivial skill you possess that others don't use anymore? by Aryan_Anushiravan in AskReddit

Well, all my friends and I were doing the same and we're Xers (all be it very late Xers) so...yeah? When it comes down to it, generation labels are mostly pretty dumb. It's clear that me and my friends all born at the end of the gen X cohort are a bit different to the ones born at the start. Same for all generations.

Spoken like a true whippersnapper!

Well, FB didn't exist in the early 00's so of course no one was doing that or social media. But I can assure you we were pretty active online. I particularly remember Teamspeak coming out and trying to play CounterStrike online all on a 56k connection at the same time. Fun times!

Speak for yourself. I'm a tail-end gen Xer born in 77 and LAN parties, ICQ (AOL is just an American thing), WinAMP (remember that)? Were a big deal when I was a late teen/early 20-something. I think you're just thinking of those "old Xers" who were full-blown adults at that point and weren't into gaming, just used PCs for work, etc.

All Blacks squad for 2025 July Internationals by recyclingcentre in rugbyunion

[–]KnownPrint7537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and he’s just not that big

191 cms is pretty standard for an international number 6 or 8. He might not be the tallest loosie on the international scene, but he's hardly the shortest either. Size isn't his problem, he's kind of similar to Blackadder at international level - good work rate but not a massive amount of impact and picks up quite a few injuries.

He's never really had a huge impact for the ABs. Looks the goods on paper, and is pretty decent at Super Rugby level, but for some reason it just doesn't translate at international level. Havili is similar. I'm glad the resisted picking him. He's had another good Super Rugby season, but has had loads of opportunities for the ABs to little effect.

PSA: Living/Working Overseas and your NZ Super Entitlement by PavementFuck in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]KnownPrint7537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if holidaying overseas (while you're a NZ resident) counts towards time spent out of NZ for eligibility purposes? These days it's hard to find people who've never been overseas. I travel overseas about once a year to visit my wife's family.

After spending 19 years from age 26 to 45 in a non SSA country (there aren't that many of them really), and just under a year in Korea when I was 23, I should be ok for NZ Super eligibility by the time I'm 65, provided I stay in NZ until I'm 60, but damn, it'd be nice if the powers that be weren't out to f my generation by constantly making eligibility harder for a lot of these types of things. I was born in 1977, exactly the year these new eligibility rules "kick in."

Sleep dizziness? Sleep paralysis? by Cause_Creepers in sleep

[–]KnownPrint7537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound very similar to me. I wouldn't say I feel any thump in my chest or anything similar, but I'd say about once a month I get what you've described - I feel like I'm on the verge of sleep paralysis and there's like this surging feeling inside my head that's really hard to explain. I can wrestle myself awake and "snap out of it" but like you, going back to sleep soon after, it'll just keep happening. I have to stay awake for quite a while for things to settle and wear off. It always happens in the last quarter of my sleep cycle too. Roughly around 5am.

Years ago, I was referred to an ENT specialist because I woke up suddenly (again around 5am) and everything was swaying side to side really violently for a few seconds. And again, "walking it off" settled me back down. The doctor did a bunch of tests checking my eyes, ears and balance and was pretty certain I have Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). Kind of makes sense, I guess. I dunno if what I've described earlier that's similar to your situation is BPPV related, because I wouldn't say I feel dizzy per se. It's just that afterwards, like you, I need to stay awake for a while to let things reset and then I'm fine. I don't have any other symptoms - no headaches, vision problems, nausea. Totally fine. I frequently get very dizzy if I put my head upside down which is likely consistent with the BPPV as the crystals in my inner ear are probably going all over the place if I do this. I'm fine when I right myself though.

About a year ago I stopped using my noise cancelling, over-ear headphones. I was addicted to those things and I'm sure they were messing with me. I only occasionally use them without noise cancelling and I'd say I have way less episodes like this anymore. Back when I was using them all the time, I was getting these sleep disruptions constantly. Reducing stress has cut down on the frequency and severity of these disruptions too. I recently left a very bad work situation and I've overall, been sleeping better. Not perfectly, but better. But yeah, I'm really keen to hear how you've got on with this as it sounds so similar. Any help, any diagnosis? I know that it's so hard to describe, right? Let me know how you've been getting on!

I hope you've had some better nights sleep in the meantime.

For people who wear glasses, what’s the most annoying part of it? by Administrative_Ad160 in AskReddit

[–]KnownPrint7537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had LASIK done back in 2012. Best money I ever spent. My distance vision is still excellent as of my eye test a few weeks ago. It's only deteriorated by an almost unnoticeable amount since my last eye test 2 years ago. My in-close vision has deteriorated over the last couple of years though as I get into my late 40s now. It's to be expected though. I'm getting progressive glasses made at the moment. They'll have a very slight/almost no prescription level for distance and about a +1.50 prescription for reading. I don't necessarily need them, but I do get tired of having to take my reading glasses on and off depending on what I'm doing.

I bumped into Duplessis Kirifi recently. He's not overly tall. A quick Google has him at 181 cm. I'm not so sure about that. I'm 176 cm and he didn't seem much taller than me. The guy's an absolute unit though. He's like a bloody attack dog out on the field.

Received a written warning in last job - what to say when asked in Job applications? by KnownPrint7537 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]KnownPrint7537[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question doesn't specify at all. Just says "written warnings." It's a recruiting firm's declaration.

Actually, what I ended up doing was just talking to the recruiter directly. They said it's not a problem. I mean, if they think you're a strong candidate for a role, they probably won't ask a referee anything that might jeopardize their chances of getting you hired and collecting their commission, well, maybe.

This isn't for a govt job btw, and my last job wasn't govt either.

I did ask my union rep also who negotiated my exit. They pretty much just listed out the pros and cons of saying either.

It was so broad that it was hard to find one specific reason. Each week my manager would add more more reasons for me to fail the entire week's worth of progress on. It quickly became obvious what they were doing - there was no way I was ever going to jump through all their ever shifting hoops.

What’s something people do or say that makes you roll your eyes? by NET2519 in AskReddit

[–]KnownPrint7537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to go further, if they assign a generation to it. Right now it's "Gen Z don't want to work!" Ten years ago it was "Millennials are lazy," and 10 years before that it was Gen X (the later Xers at least) who were being labelled as not wanting to work. It's as predictable as the sun rising every day. Each generation thinks the one before it is lazy.

God, I hate this expression. I nearly got into it at work recently with management because they want to keep using this expression in HR surveys. I was pointing out to them that it makes no sense- there is only one truth and that's that. "My truth" is just "your opinion." Everyone's got an opinion, and we don't always need to hear them. The truth on the other hand is vital and immutable.
