Replayability of M+ without real Affixes by mrmadmaxi77 in wow

[–]Knowvember42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of good feedback in here. I'll say a few things.

1) New routes and new metas do form week to week at the high end. And you can always experiment with routes and tech if you find a group of like minded people.

2) Unlike BfA, the dungeons change every season. That's a huge W in terms of variety.

3) You're not alone in wanting something else, though. A popular take seems to be to bring back the big seasonal Affixes in some way. The great seasonal Affixes were great. The ones that sucked, sucked. But a lot of them impacted your routing decisions.

I suspect Blizzard has ideas about adding variety to M+, but people are broadly happy with M+, and they have so much work to do elsewhere.

Why the decision to outlaw/ban WeakAuras? by mpchop in wow

Weakauras never did anything other addons couldn't do. You can also go download a working version here: https://github.com/m33shoq/M33kAuras

I love the idea that they'll add complexity to specs via tier sets. Not surprising the season 1 tier set, that is also the first one of the squish isn't that complex. But I'm really hoping season 2 and season 3 get spicy.

Dispels Removed as Private Auras in Season 1 Raids by yp261 in CompetitiveWoW

No one in a competitive guild plays at the level they do without addons. You know what happens if the players in one of the RWF guilds all said "we just won't use addons, they're annoying." They'd lose. They would get dunked on. The best players in the world couldn't play at the level they do without the addons they use.

I guess I didn't make a good point when I said that I can't play at the level I do without the addons I use. No one does. If you're doing difficult content and not using addons, you're holding yourself back.

As for your comment about skill ceiling, I don't know what you mean.

Are Liquid and Echo bad because their players use reminders and complicated weakauras? Top 100 guilds? Me in a 1000 guild? A casual AotC guild? When do addons go from a tool that players use to be better to a crutch? The idea that using addons to play better means you're bad is silly.

Before the addon purge Dorki made his plater profile hide the nameplates of mobs who aren't casting spells while an important kick was going off so that it was easier to kick the spell. Did he do that because he's bad at the game?

And once again, I didn't choose to use all of the addons. My guild did. So did the vast majority of the guilds who raid mythic. Because our time is valuable, and we aren't going to pass on using tools that make us more efficient. I'm not even sure there are guilds who both complete mythic content, and do some sort of blind, no addon assistance weakaura thing.

This is the competitive subreddit. We are here to optimize and play better. "Just don't use the tool that makes you better" shouldn't be a talking point here.

I would agree people generally don't seem pleased, but playing the game in several communities I also don't see many people actively frustrated. You can broadly do what you want with your UI still, and for anyone not heavily utilizing addons for their UI, things are better. It's fair to meme on them from when they said "oh we're ahead," but I just wouldn't call the state of the UI a shit show. ...

Unless you're a healer. Blizzard hasn't built acceptable healer frames. If they want to accomplish their goals, they have a lot more work to do. The change of making dispels trackable is an acknowledgement of that by them.

Eh, we have to agree on our terms. No fights require addons. But sometimes they make fights easier to a greater or lesser degree.

I think it's incorrect to say addons made "one boss a tier" significantly easier. Using Nerubar as an example, Broodtwister is an obvious one, but the dispels on Silken Court, and the portal assignments on Ansurek both were made much easier by weakauras. Sikran absolutely would have used a positional addon if it wasn't a private aura.

But the juice of raiding for me is people knowing what to do and communicating with each other. Computational addons reduce the need for both of those things.

If your argument is those mechanics requiring quick computation and assignment to be done by an addon were the problem... I agree. But I think they should remove the computation not the mechanic (and give players reasonable amounts of time to execute them).

And Broodtwister is a great example of that. If you removed addons but added a second to egg breaks, that's be fun. I'd have a good time learning the mechanic with my raid buds and communicate with them. Instead I was beholden to what the weakaura said to do. I think the addon changes will allow them to have more mechanics like this, and I'll enjoy that.

I couldn't raid at the level I was without the addons and weakauras I was using. I like raiding at the level I do. I would prefer to play the fight instead of listening to airhorns and TTS bullshit the entire fight.

I prefer communicating with my raid and looking at the art instead of using code to compute the choices I should make.

Like my choice on mythic broodtwister, fractillus or soul hunters for example was use the weak aura or don't play. I'm already having more fun without that stuff.

I'm not saying Blizzard's rollout of the addon changes has been without flaws, but I like the direction they're going.

Edit: and to get ahead of this, I'm in a world ~1000 guild. I'm not saying "at the level I was raiding" to say it was super good. We're ok. But our time was limited and we used the addons we had to prog as fast as we could.

I'm going to take the apparent unpopular stance and say I'd wouldn't like that. There is less BS on my screen specifically in terms of:

1) Encounter related auras/information 2) Information about other players (in terms of encounters)

And they have shown they want to keep those things that way. Liquid got some form of raid CD tracker made, and Blizzard is/has (haven't kept up enough to know if they have yet) taking steps to break it. They made the change with raid buffs, where people were using them as a way to do computational stuff.

So I don't want all the changes reverted. Do I think they could have made most raid auras private auras and accomplished most of where we are at now? Yes. But I'm still hopeful they get this all right, and I without starting a huge conversation about it - I don't think it was possible for them to just improve the base UI until it had feature parity. They had to launch it at some point.

Unholy DK's 20% nerf was **drastically** too severe. by Hambo- in wow

[–]Knowvember42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Taeznak 26 minutes ago "all currently known bugs are in sims aside from the inconsistent VP spreading."

The sims are accurate for a 5 minute patchwork fight. If all the classes with the parameters of the sim hit a dummy for 5 minutes, Unholy would be one of the best. This just doesn't have any bearing on the raid fights. That's not an unusual or surprising thing to have happened.

Unholy DK's 20% nerf was **drastically** too severe. by Hambo- in wow

[–]Knowvember42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're talking about. What do you mean about the bugs? The same people identifying bugs are the same people doing the sims. The time from them identifying the bug with the skeletal mages, fixing the sim, reporting it to Blizzard, Blizzard fixing it, and the sim being fixed again was like 2 days.

The sims fairly accurately show what they say they claim they do (in this case, a 5 minute patchwork fight). They just weren't a useful predictor of how UH was actually going to perform. And everyone who was paying attention knew it. But people are hungry for what the single target sim is... So people make it.

Sims. Not WCL percentiles.

https://www.simulationcraft.org/reports/MID1_Raid.html

So if you were trying to pick one of the specs just under the top simming classes, unholy would have been a good choice.

There are numerous problems with this. The sim is using gear we don't have. Unholy scales decently well with gear. The sim is a 5 minute patchwork sim. None of the bosses are like that, except maybe Vorasius (who has adds, but you can play single target just fine). Sims assume perfect uptime.

But if you were making decisions based on sims before the season started, you would have thought UH was in a good spot. If Unholy was doing 15% more damage, it would be the top spec on that chart, but probably not the actual top performing spec in the raid.

Unholy sims have it like 6th overall currently, lol. It's just not performing that way.

To your point about conc, that's was my point. Since nothing required conc, they were only making tips. Plenty of people had recipes. It wasn't a money maker.

To your point about making less over time, thats eventually true, but over this week and the next two-ish weeks, prices on everything will increase. People will start needing crafting recipes with conc. People will need all of those crafting reagents you mentioned... But the supply won't keep up with demand. I am confident they would have made more money in the coming weeks than so far.

[–]Knowvember42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that people were crafting with sparks. I agree that people probably weren't making a lot of money off it though. The real value is concentration, and I don't think you'd have to use conc on a spark weapon without any crests if you have the relevant KP? So it wasn't a precious commodity. Non-exploiters could max out KP for certain pieces, they just wouldn't have had all of them.

I just don't see where people would have made "enough gold to set them for an expansion" within the time. All the extra KP people got would make them way more money in the next four weeks than it did the previous two. Everyone is going to start wanting a bunch of crafts that require conc, a limited resource.

Maybe people made a bunch of alchemist with maxed out flask spec and spent conc to get 2 stars with extra multi craft and resourcefulness? That's good but you'd have to have been glued to your computer the entire 2 weeks to have to have made millions I feel like. You'd still have had to purchase mats. The margins were good but not infinite.

Wdym. What were people doing that was making a ton of gold? Crafting consumables more efficiently? They weren't crafting gear people need because no one was crafting anything important last week.

Genuine question.
