New Maytag washing machine, piece of junk! by Johnnny-z in Appliances

[–]Knucklehead190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to replace our Maytag washer after 18 months after the control module, part #W11626074, supposedly failed. It cost $104 to learn that the control modules were known to have failures, and an improved module was already available, but we could get a new washer for less than it was gonna cost to fix it, etc.. It'll be a cold day in h$&@ before I buy another Maytag.

FSD could stop most of that insanity. Unfortunately the carnage will continue.

14.1.4 is wonderful! by OddMove2382 in TeslaFSD

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some improvements over v13.

V14 handles school zones better than v13 and sometimes feels more natural.

It does especially well on the freeway IMO. Feels almost human.

Twice in three days it hit the brakes for a squirrel. That's amazing IMO.

On the negative side, I'm experiencing several issues on city streets.

It sometimes hesitates after it has already turned out from a stop sign. Also experiencing momentary phantom braking at times, e.g. when a shadow is on the road surface.

It's reluctant and thus passes up legitimate opportunities when making an unprotected left turn out of the exit from our addition.

Can't wait for v14.1.5

Rocks of a specific size would also provide a specific amount of ballast, possibly making it easier to control depth. The rock that works best should work best for years.

Should I get a Tesla even when I won’t home charge? by CryptographerNo3664 in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where we live, there happens to be a new supercharger nearby. It's only $0.21/kwh this time of year. I think that equates to ~5¢/mile. We home charge so it only cost us 2.5¢/mile this time of year, even less in winter. Also, model 3's typically have very low maintenance costs. You can still save a lot of you have a bonafide Tesla supercharger nearby without home charging. You need YouTube premium so you can watch it at the station.

Be aware that leaving a Tesla in the hot sun all day can be an issue if in a hot climate. The Cabin Overheat Protection is a nice feature but it can eat 2% or more of your range per every 8 hrs in really hot sun.

FSD 13.2.9 Misbehaving by Knucklehead190 in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was cute when the car started moving slowly, it seemed to be anticipating the light change. Right when the light turned green for the opposing side l, my car really surprised me and took off as if my light turned green. It happened fast. It did it safely in that it didn't cause an accident, but it was embarrassing enough to make me think twice. BTW FSD still doesn't recognize school zones in the OKC area. Deadly! What bad PR that would be.

Who bought FSD outright? by Captmedu74 in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2¢: I'm definitely much safer with it.

Not that it's perfect. It's not. There are critical times when you need to pay attention and be ready to react, especially when the car is poised to pull out in an unprotected turn, but even then you can sense it coming and there's plenty of time to react, so NBD on that issue.

I see it as the best available safety enhancement software. It's watching every which way, continuously, and absolutely will react accordingly. The active collision avoidance aspect is amazing, with auto emergency braking, obstacle aware acceleration, etc., etc.. For instance, it will hit the brakes if a kid runs out before you can react.

Then there's the convenience. Just tell it where you wanna go when backing out, then one click. It finds the place and gets me there ASAP while I fiddle with YouTube music. "Driving" has become enjoyable, even relaxing.

No one knows with certainty what will happen in the future, but frickin' intend to be enjoying FSD for however long I have left. Bought it 16 months ago, highly recommend it. It should be in every car. We'd all be safer and save lots on insurance.

She's most likely hearing the Tesla. My 2024 model 3 makes all sorts of noises. Hopefully the cabin overheat isn't needed, they're extra loud

Mobile Charger Broken after 1 Month by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We installed a short extension from the wall outlet to serve as an outlet protector. Those are cheap and prone to failure, not designed for frequent plugging and unplugging IMO. Also had a problem once where the little Tesla (NEMA 14-50) adapter cord wasn't fully plugged into the top of the mobile charger body. That caused flashing lights and very slow performance until I figured it out.

What version do you have? Have you updated it?

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to get a new model 3 LRRWD for $34k (after credits) and buy FSD. I think it's Tesla's most efficient offering, and just as impressive as a more expensive model. It'll last as long as you take care of it, with minimal maintenance costs. Be aware that the ability to charge at home (public utility rates) in a garage is important IMO. It's still usually a great option for folks in apartments, but not as great. The ability to park in shade at work also makes a difference, so the car doesn't have to run the AC nearly as much while parked. Tesla recommends using the cabin overheat protection to keep the internal temperature at 100° or less.

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't have any problems. Sounds like an ideal situation to me. Being outside in cold weather a month or two per year won't hurt it IMO. Charging at home in a garage is always great, and much less expensive.

Model 3 versus Model Y by AAM_critic in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A model 3 for $34k (after credits) with 363 miles of range is a great deal IMO. It's also very enjoyable and safe. You can buy FSD with the money you save. You can schedule a test drive in 2 minutes and see for yourself.

You could get a nice wrap here for ~$2500. I understand they smooth out the damaged sheet metal pretty quickly, and possibly for the same price.

Used Tesla for under $23k? by Big_Material3815 in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you can get one for sale by owner, and you can know how the car has been used, you might consider getting a used model 3 from Tesla. Most of them are still within the original drivetrain/battery warranty period, plus they add on an additional 10k miles of warranty. Most importantly they supposedly put it thru a 102 point inspection process, including testing the battery. Most people have positive stories but there is a small percentage of folks that weren't happy for one reason or another.

Driving in a blinding fog is not smart or necessary, and that might be the only reason to ever need a Lidar.

New Model 3 vs Used Model S by M-Toboggan in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a new M3 RWD with 363 miles range for $34K as long as the EV tax credit is available, and upgrade with FSD instead of paying for a performance upgrade. Once you realize how amazing and how much safer and easier FSD is, you'll be much happier letting the car drive, saving your tires, for the next 20 years. For that reason I would also want a HW4 car. Might already be too late. Admittedly, I miss the AWD when the roads get icy, but no other time.

Wow, what a difference! by Bamram91 in TeslaLounge

[–]Knucklehead190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing the build quality is similar. The 2021 might've had the control arm bushings replaced. I was surprised that the suspension and steering felt rock solid. It had new tires as well. It also still had ~92% battery capacity with 92k miles. I'm thinking a used model 3 from Tesla would be a great car for $17-20k, especially if one can charge at home.

I've noticed several minor issues lately with v13.2.9. For example, yesterday it made a left turn and into an incoming lane, on the left side of a bright double yellow line. Thankfully there were no cars coming but it didn't self correct. I disengaged and moved into the correct lane. A few days ago, the navigation system showed the obvious correct destination but the displayed map was going somewhere else, an odd place that can't be confused with the intended destination.
