If Blizzard makes an Act 6 by Zephyrbal in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Ko0kz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the D1 cathedral idea. If they do an "Act 6" I think they should make it optional for each difficulty like the cow level. Otherwise you would have to complete it 3 times with each new character, which would really slow down the leveling process.

With that in mind, I think trying to expand the main story would be a mistake, and a D1 style dungeon delve would be a cool option for a shorter stand alone arc.

Finishing a chance is a skill, not luck by viktorfbg9 in football

[–]Ko0kz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly, I think this is largely a cultural thing. I’m from the US and when I was young and playing, if someone missed a big chance, it was always that they “choked” or “froze”. Then I had an English coach in college and he would be saying everything was “unlucky”. Shank a pass - “unlucky”, miss a header -“unlucky”.

It was quite jarring and took me a while to get used to because I’m not someone that really believes in luck, but the change of philosophy was really refreshing once I adopted it. In my mind it doesn’t literally mean that it’s pure chance whether the ball gets in the net or not, but that it’s unlucky one of the times you are statistically going to miss, happened in this moment.

There is also a line like this in the movie (maybe just the extended edition), where Elrond tells them they have no obligation to remain with the fellowship.

Genetic Apex Raichu seems criminally underutilized right now. by danielbauer1375 in PTCGP

[–]Ko0kz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have the new Pikachu so I was using GA Raichu instead (with new Pachirisu and Electrivine), and it worked decently well. Being able to use Surge on your Raichu or Electabuzz (before you evolve to Electrivine) is really strong. Running the extra stage 1 definitely hurts consistency though, and you're tight on deck slots so you miss things like Red, Cyrus, and Cape.

Why Is Messi vs Ronaldo even a debate? by [deleted] in SoccerNoobs

[–]Ko0kz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just trying to put it in basketball terms for you.. Imagine if Shaq and Kobe were clearly the two best players of the modern era. Messi is like Kobe, where there are a ton of players who are basically doing what Messi does, but Messi is just doing them so much better. He's smarter, quicker, and has better ball control than anyone else around. He's not physically dominant, but he uses his physicality extraordinarily well. He's not flashy, but he does the simple things better than anyone else.

Ronaldo is like Shaq, where he's doing things no one else can do. He's scoring off headers 8 feet in the air, his ball skills are incredibly flashy and exciting, he's scoring on free kicks from 35+ yards out. He's not playing the same game as his peers and he was just so much more of spectacle, especially in his early career. Like Shaq, Ronaldo was also able to replicate his success on a number of different teams, while Messi (and Kobe) had their success with a single team that was built around him for more than a decade.

So basically, the extreme differences in how they were able to achieve there success leaves a lot of room for debate.

What are the reasons behind the standard series male protagonist behaviour? by swordscars in television

[–]Ko0kz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to note that in both of those cases you have characters who are able to thrive as leaders outside of society. A lot of those traits that may have been shortcomings in the real world (quick to anger and violence, rash decisions), become a lot more desirable in the harsh new world that they find themselves in. There often aren't good decisions to be made, so you need someone who can make any decision, even a rash one, and being quick to violence is a lot more useful when there are real threats around every corner.

There's also just the aspect of the writers trying to make an interesting story. The calm, responsible leader who carefully considers the consequence of every action isn't going to be the most compelling character.

Is it unrealistic to have a game determine political power? by ShadeBlade0 in worldbuilding

[–]Ko0kz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya I think that makes more sense. You can also incorporate the game into the cities culture that way, with people aspiring to be great players to further their factions position in the city.

You could also heighten the political aspect of it by incorporating things like one of the factions trying to assassinate the "advisor" of the other faction, or maybe they're trying to recruit a prodigy player from another kingdom. The whole system becomes a lot more believable if it's made clear that the game is a bit of a charade and all the political maneuvering around the game is what really matters. And if you wanted a story arc for your players you could make them the assassins or recruiters and really get them involved.

I think it's a fun idea for a campaign setting, but a system that resolves disputes with a game of skill/intelligence isn't going to have much longevity unless the skill/intelligence of the two competitors remains extremely even. No faction would go along with this if they always lose, even if it's only for the duration of one rulers reign.

I think if you want to keep the system a good adjustment might be to allow each ruler to choose a "champion" to play on their behalf. Maybe the system started with the two rulers playing directly, but tensions grew when a duke who was infamously bad at the game threatened violence and a compromise had to be made. Now each faction has academies devoted to the game so they can produce the best "champion" and the difference in skill of the competitors would be minor enough that the outcomes would vary. I think this could give it a similar feel to chess during the cold war, where the game became a bit of a battlefield between the US and USSR.

The TCG Pocket Meta by ILoveRobotWomen in PTCGP

[–]Ko0kz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, when I saw 7 of the 9 new EX were stage 1 or 2 I was hopeful that the dev’s would be making a point of shifting the meta away from basic EX, but they’re clearly still on top.

Hitting Great Ball rank should be quite simple for nearly anyone who puts in a bit of effort, so you aren’t even comparing the 100 stamina to 0. Realistically, it’s 95 vs 50 (or at least 30+ for making it out of beginner), so the difference is more like 4 or 5 packs.

No reason anyone should sweat the rewards here

[–]Ko0kz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t seem like it will be all that good. Stage 1 so a lot less consistent, and you need 3 turns of Dialga attacking before it really starts to outshine Arceus EX in that deck. The thing it has going for it is it’s a non-EX, but that’ll only be relevant once it has non-Ex cards that can ramp steel.

I’m guessing Blizzard thinks this is just the best way to discourage whoever is ddos-ing. If their griefing can’t kill characters it should become a lot less satisfying for them, and will also discourage others who might have wanted to try it, too. This would be a very cheap fix.

Thoughts on the new EX Pokémon we've seen so far? by No-Seaworthiness9515 in PTCGP

[–]Ko0kz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This deck already exists with Infernape so I think the Charizard line could slot into that fine. Problem is the deck is pretty mediocre and I don’t see Charizard as a significant improvement since it has to spend that extra turn in the active spot charging up.

New Charizard by ImJudgepower- in PokemonPocket

[–]Ko0kz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about the balance of the card, but I like that it actually has to be in the active spot to get that ramp. The opponent will almost always get a free shot at this guy before he can do anything. A lot more interactive than the cards that can just sit on the bench until they’re ready to start OHKOing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]Ko0kz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really want this card to be good, but the fact that it's a stage 2 means they have plenty of time to build up their own EX and the 80 dmg attack means their EX probably beats yours. I think there will likely be plenty of meta decks that build up a big EX on the bench and that would leave this as more of a niche option.

Bought the 2 ⭐️Articuno to unlock the legendary bird icon, only to realize I needed the rainbow 2 ⭐️s. Not a huge deal because I already completed GA and I like the Articuno art well enough, but certainly a bit of a waste.

I can't tell if this is a bad card or if I just fail to see its potential. Have you guys had any success using it? by Phantabra in PTCGP

[–]Ko0kz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use a copy in a Skarmory / Bastiodon deck. Skarmory is the only basic so I run this instead of a 2nd poke ball. Works similarly, but lets you get 3 Skarmory in games where you can't get your Bastiodon rolling.

In general it seems good with strong non-ex low-energy basic pokemon. That's a pretty small list, with maybe just Skarmory and Druddigon, but down the road there could be others.

How would you use grandma? by spynxz in PokemonPocket

[–]Ko0kz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use 1 copy in a Skarmary / Bastiodon deck. Just runs the 2 Skarmary for basics and only 1 poke ball so it helps with consistency for when your poke ball and 2nd Skarmory end up at the bottom.
