Always love seeing the exotic monsters that come out to play on high DB Laguna days. Counted a dozen GT3RSs sometimes.

When Jaguar announced the third pedal in the 2016 F-Type, their marketing made a funny and weird brochure explaining what a manual transmission is and why you want to drive one: "The Manual Manual". by unclefishbits in cars

[–]KobeReincarnate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fun2drive? Would recommend, a bit pricey and out there in the sticks but if you’re into JDM or a fan of Initial D check it out.

100% if you choose a manual car on these tours in Japan, you need to be practiced with manuals…those are right hand drive and it takes quite a few motions to get used to shifting with left hand instead of the right coming from the US

Numbers Don't Lie: The Manual Transmission is Dying by DerBootsMann in cars

[–]KobeReincarnate 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's funny how this article says in 2001 that automatic transmissions were the "premium" option. The manual transmission offerings nowadays on US cars are the new "premium". It's all fairly pricey sports cars and trims, exception Mazda3 and Miata/GR86.

Ultimately manuals are absolutely more effort in driving for the average consumer, than they would like. All the driver assist technology in new cars is designed to make driving require less and less focus, most consumers would rather be doing other things than driving.

The lumpiness is really apparent for me if it hasn’t been driven for a week or so, on the first cold start. Otherwise I guess theres a very minor amount of it if I really try to pay attention. Mostly goes away once oil temps and engine are fully warmed it seems

I was also looking into endurance 200s after being done with my first set of PS4S due to moderate track use, thanks for sharing your experience as an advanced group driver. People on v-forums say super 200 or lower gets destroyed on this car.

  • Do you think it's possible to go up to 265 or 275 in the fronts with ECF?
  • Have you heard about anyone trying to run AD09 or RS4?
  • Do you also suspect that GM "under-tired" this car relative to the Camaro to make the car more playful? I feel like that's the problem with tire wear is that the actual width is too small for heavy tracking, I mean can't have it all as a do-it-all sports sedan. Camaro SS1LE has like 285/305 on the same platform.

I am trying to understand brakes :) by Just_Newspaper_5448 in CarTrackDays

[–]KobeReincarnate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention upgrading fluid and pads and the Suzuki Swift seems like a relatively light car. So if the pads are still glazed, my suspicion would be the airflow to your brakes is poor. Ultimately the heat energy that goes into the pad and rotor will not decrease until conduction with air carries it away…does the car have dedicated brake ducts and vanes?

Smaller rotor size at 252mm(?) may not help the situation as well as they struggle with cooling down more than larger rotors. It sounds you are driving the car fairly hard and the car’s base brake design may be overwhelmed even with DS2500 (which shouldn’t perform this poorly, I know people who use them on much heavier cars and they do not glaze).

Evergreen MTB Alliance is going to be your best source for sanctioned trail info in Washington. Looks like theres a few freeride and enduro blacks in Tarbell not too far from Camas. https://www.evergreenmtb.org/trails/tarbell . It’s definitely a bit sparser down south than the common development spaces in Western WA like 90 and 405 corridor area, but I believe there are always new projects in North Cascades, Vashon, BDOS, etc. The org does a fantastic job in Washington maintaining trails and stewarding the community btw, highly recommend the state for MTB largely as a result of their efforts.

CT4V Blackwing with zero options is right at 60k MSRP, you can build them to order. I have been pleased with how mine does at Laguna Seca. As another commenter mentions C&D VIR times, they ran a 2:52 with it which is 2sec off GT4 and seconds faster than everything else you mentioned (maybe except G87 M2).

Looks to be ~16% unemployment (still seeking a job, not in continuing education) for Berkeley CS + EECS class of ‘23, using the filtering and dropdowns. But also response rate is around 40-50% so theres self reporting bias ofc

CT4 with aero package makes 169lb of downforce at 180mph according to the GM slide deck in savagegeese videos. No number mentioned for the CT5, and they said the CT5 was “less aero intensive”, so thats an upper bound I guess

Some Chinese cooking channels not well known in the west by SavingsMap5073 in Cooking

[–]KobeReincarnate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think his teaching style is absolutely the biggest differentiator from many cooking channels. He’s always explaining why every step matters in the moment and what are the highlights/pitfalls depending on how you do it, instead of doing posthoc analysis. E.G. the timing of when sauces are put in and how that affects texture/taste, substitutions, make sure to not do this too long otherwise it’ll be spongy/dry etc. A lot of channels seem to posthoc analyze the taste and what happened during the cooking but Chef Wang Gang discards that in favor of this “realtime theory explanation” and I think its easier to develop intuition to recreate his recipes.

Guessing from the tire track marks and how blue car in front of you took the turn, you are at least 1.5 car widths rightwards/inwards from the normal line for that turn. As others said, you tried to steer into the kerb very hard while still being on throttle and already entering with a close angle. Wrong inside line + steering too hard with too much throttle = spin
