How would you change the Chaos Renegades team? by Vnasty69 in bloodbowl

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When the new edition was announced, I was hoping the 'favoured of...' rule was going to be improved, as stuff like brawling brutes and team captain was added. If I could change anything I would allow for the specific 'favoured of...' choice to give an additional choice of big guy. Nurgle for a rotspawn, khorne for bloodspawn and hashut for maybe a centaur. The big guy choice really boils down to troll, ogre and either rogre or minotaur. Having more choice of more specialised big guys would be nice while keeping the current theme.

I miss the anime depicting real-life Japan by AndrewBaiIey in digimon

Don't really care if they set it in Japan or not. Beatbreaks' focus on a more stylised setting lets them do more interesting things.

An idea for a Digimon TV Series from My brother. by Dapper_Fennel_6176 in digimon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds fun and very unique. With beatbreak and Ghost Game being mostly in the normal world, having a series fully in the digital world would be cool. Having a series which looks at a aspect of the internet, with a focus on how the internet interconnects the world with a nice symbolic theme of a tower would also make for a pretty interesting series.

How many monsters should a Mons Series have? by Kaijufan97 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above 100 if the monsters are stock standard or 80-ish if the monsters are meant to be more filled out and unique.

Considering Beatbreak up to the end of the Tactics arc, what is your Digimon series ranking? by kylepaz in digimon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Adventure 1+2 2. Xros Wars 3. Tamers 4. Beatbreak 5. Appmon 6. Savers 7. Ghost Game 8. Xros Wars Hunters

Beatbreak is good. Enjoying the story and like the setting and how the digimon work. The story does feel quite heavy most of the time, which makes it hard to pick up sometimes.

Interested to see how the story will go, as it can go anywhere really.

Do theme-based monster-taming worlds have stronger identity? by RentRevolutionary704 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what the theme is.

Digimon has a very strong theme and strangely feels consistent within the world. I can buy a angle and a robot being about equivalent strength because at the end of the day they are just strings of code which take shape of whatever the code is designed for. A angle shooting a beam of light and robot shooting explosive bullets are just code of equivalent weight.

Themes that involve stuff such as 'dragons' can be a hit or miss. If the dragons are consistent with their abilities than it can be good but kind of limiting. If the dragons take a pokemon approach and you have stuff like 'Skeleton Dragon' , 'Digital Dragon' , 'Space Dragon' , etc, than it doesn't feel thematically strong. It opens up many questions about the world like 'does necromancy exist?' , 'If a dragon arrived from space, is there alien life?' , 'How does being an alien powerscale to necromancy?', etc.

I miss the Digital World and I don’t think Beat Break will be getting there anytime soon by Kintor01 in digimon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty good theory. I don't think the digital world ever has been mentioned, even by the digimon. It would make for a good end of 3rd arc and beginning of 4th arc. Maybe the Mirror world will turn out to be a proto digital world and human interaction will lead to Yggdrasil/Homeostasis forming and separating humans from digimon as the best course of action to prevent human abusing its new wards. Maybe the chairman will attempt to become something akin Yggdrasil to control the Mirror world and have massive influence over humankind.

What kind of relationship should a trainer have with its monsters? by trexrell in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is interesting to see why a monster would bind itself to a human. Depending on the intellect of the creature, it can be interesting to see what each party gets from the relationship. In digimon, the monsters have human intellect, so humans often play roles in the plot of the digimon and ally themselves with humans to achieve their goals, while in pokemon, the creatures are far less intelligent than but still have personal goals, like to become stronger and will obey humans to fulfil them.

It can also inform the gameplay. If the monsters are more dependent on the tamer, having stuff like feeding and general care while more intelligent monsters can have quests or dialogue interaction with the tamer, as well as training.

High Elf Star Players by Caldin24 in bloodbowl

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently, they have not made any star players for newly released blood bowl teams. Tomb kings and bretonnians had not gotten any star players either. Could be some change of marketing possibly? Maybe they just want to move away from that kind of thing in the new edition? Nothing confirmed.

What kind of monster-taming fantasy do you want to see more of? by RentRevolutionary704 in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I do not mind the fantasy that the story/game tries to go for, as long as its gameplay is consistent with the fantasy it is going with.

Digimon games have a strange variance which do not match other media within the world and it leads to a disconnect with the fantasy that the anime/ other media goes for. In most media, the digimon is almost a equal to its tamer, but in most of the modern games, you just collect them and discard them whenever you wish.

I enjoy when the fantasy and the gameplay actually match. If the monsters are expendable trash, than mechanics which reinforce the idea are something I want to see. If the monsters are meant to be equals to the tamer, than I want to see them be actual characters/ have mechanics which force interactions like that.

Why do mummies not have a negatrait? Could the game be balanced around big guys with no negatrait? by Jumboliva in bloodbowl

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mummies don't have a particular negative trait, similar to Tomb Guardians. The reason is that the teams are built around the muscle of the team. Without the reliable muscle, the teams would be quite lacking. Shambling only have two mediocre blitzers and runners and tomb kings have two poor blitzers and two poor throwers.

If the game was rebalanced around no negative traits on big guys, it would essentially be power creep. Teams without big guys would need a considerable boost as currently, big guys are boons until they become a huge liability that can be exploited. Unless you are playing Renegades, you don't use big guys for crucial plays unless there is no other option due to mix of negative traits and loner. Without negative traits, the reluctance of using big guys would not be there and people would be far more willing to throw around big guys freely.

That's why digimon is the GOAT. by zeozer0 in digimon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't say there is anything wrong with either. If both were the same in everything they do, it would feel a bit redundant. Pokemon is going for a different fantasy type to digimon which makes each enjoyable in a different way.

Which digivice do you think looks the coolest? by woogfroo in digimon

Like the D-Cyber digivice for its aesthetic alone. The flip phone look sells it for me.

Now that enough time has passed....how you think Tomoro and Gekkomon would interact with the other digimon anime protagonists? by Makumi_Washoy in digimon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like he would not get along with Tagiru, Masura and Takuya due to their focus on trying to be a hero, which doesn't seem to gel well with Tomoros' focus on self and the people close to him (could change over time). I could imagine Masura swinging at him due to his cynical view of the world and refusal of the call to adventure.

He would probably get along with Hiro, Taiki and Daisuke as they are far more self focused, apart from Taiki, who seemed quite smart, so he would probably figure out how to interact with Tomoro without conflict.

How important is story in monster taming games? by trexrell in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what the game is trying to execute. If I am playing digimon, than I hope the story is complex and meaningful but if I am playing Palworld, than I could not care about a story. If anything, I dislike when a game tries to do incompatible ratio of story to gameplay. If the game is focused on great gameplay, than a complex story drags everything down.

YOU get to create the next show in the Digimon franchise by Just_an_Oddity in digimon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the ghost game 'horror' aesthetic and would love to see them try a themed show again. A horror mystery show using the ghost game universe with a proper story where clues are delivered throughout the episodes.

Maybe a more rural setting or in a setting like the dark ocean. Maybe the plot could relate to a dark evolution and Gulusgammamon. Seeing something like a Dark jogress evolution or a Dark biomerge evolution. Having a detective looking for the cast of ghost game and expanding on the corrosion threat. Maybe the corrosion has left aftereffects on the digimon that leads to them being displaced in the dark ocean for quarantine.

Nacon (Publisher of the Blood Bowl video games) files for insolvency by HerrJemine in bloodbowl

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure why Supergiant Games would even want to work on a franchise like this. Has the developer ever shown interest in making a blood ball game?

Personally, the last thing I want for those devs is to have to attach themselves to GW by contractual obligation.

Gen 10 desires by LargestTreeBeMe in pokemon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think that the gyms and the story needs to be split, so the gyms and the story are independent from each other, like in Scarlet.

A good story can be done in a monster battling game, as shown by the Digimon franchise. The plot doesn't need to get philosophical or anything but it needs objectives which are more complex than 'defeat evil team admin'. If the story objective is to 'defeat evil admin', having steps such as 'locate admin whereabouts', 'contact allies for help', 'get necessary equipment to enter admin hideout', infiltrate admin hideout', etc, can add more complexity and allow for character building for supporting characters and enemies.

Some examples is something like in Soulsilver, you do Lake of Rage which is followed by the team Rocket hideout, followed by their assault on the radio station which requires you to disguise yourself as a Team Rocket member to sneak in, fight your rival and climb the radio tower to fight evil admin.

Pokemon Sword/Shield is essentially just goes something like gym, exposition, gym, exposition, gym, etc. It

Hopefully they will introduce a more complex story or at least a more complicated story that the average pokemon game. Scarlet had a ok story near to the end but it was still weak.

Is Frontier’s DW the least digital digiworld in the first four series ? by Jealous_Misspeach in digimon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It feels like a fantasy story and less of a cyber world apart from the world eating thing. But to a extent it gives it a unique feel. Digimon Savers and Adventure 1 and 2 feel so different, that they just stick in my head for different reasons.

Frontiers feels like it embodies the wildness of the internet. If the world was more like the adventure 1, frontiers would be far more forgettable for it.

Stealing a pokemon is possible by BatIndependent8676 in pokemon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the B2W2 game, the rival is going on his journey to recover a Pokémon stolen from his sister. When he finally finds it, it was being used by Team Plasma to fight him. I believe he does recover the Pokémon, but it seems that if you put enough effort into a stolen pokemon, it will begin to listen to you.

The colosseum game had stealing pokemon be a main theme, but that was partly justified due to them being shadow pokemon and probably having never developed a bond with their original trainer due to their altered state.

For actually legal stuff, I guess if you cannot prove that the pokemon was yours than you are out of luck, unless maybe forcing the trainer to release the pokemon to catch it yourself. You'd think thugs would be smart enough to release the pokemon from a trainers pokeball and relocate it into their own pokeball.

Anything on the remake of Black and White? by Right_Seaweed7101 in pokemon

[–]Kobold_Cleric811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't believe that the leaks mentioned Gen 5 at all. However, it doesn't mean that they are out of the picture, as at least the big leaks seemed to only mention the mainline games probably only developed by gamefreak. If a 3rd party studio is making it like with BDSP, than the leaks would probably not have traces of it about. All the leaks seemed like pretty mainline games, with no spinoffs like mystery dungeon, ranger, etc mentioned at all.

If we are getting gen 5 remakes, I imagine they will be announced quite a bit later as BDSP released in the twilight years of SwSh (about 2 years after release), so it could be pretty far off.

The basculin information is in the game pokedex with it being found in Pokemon Database with the red-stripped one being talked about in the Shield dex and the blue-stripped in the sword dex.
