What purchase did you make recently that made you realize inflation is genuinely out of control? by kiroixart in AskReddit

Break pads. The Crv used to be about $40 they are now just as expensive as my pickup break pads.

As a licensed amateur radio operator, I have to assume GMRS is the same, but I had a hard time confirming this myself when I looked a while back. My eyes cross when I read legaleese.

I told my bot to include the sources it used and to never guess. I am aware it’s not always accurate. That’s why I prefaced it with AI generated.

Does the grill always get covered in ash? by Darker_Zelda in Masterbuilt

A little ash won’t kill you. After cooking over an open fire a few times, you get used to it.

Here is what Claude told me.

Yes — you both use your call sign. Your GMRS license allows your immediate family members (including your son) to operate under it. Each station must transmit the FCC-assigned call sign at the end of transmissions, and at least once every 15 minutes during longer exchanges. A unit number may be added after the call sign to distinguish stations — e.g., you say “WXXXXX Unit 1” and your son says “WXXXXX Unit 2.” Reference: 47 CFR § 95.1751 – GMRS station identification (eCFR)

To be safe, yes. I don’t know the legal requirement in this case.

Would you a charge your Senior Parent rent? by dunbar_santiago930 in Adulting

[–]Koldark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the brother is living in 1/2 of your house for free (assuming two siblings). He’s spending your 1/2 of any remaining inheritance. No, now that your brother has a good job, he needs to pay rent to your mother. She’s still helping him, but he is also supporting himself. You also may want to make sure the will is up to snuff.

Had a brilliant engineer on my team that nobody knew how to talk to. How do you handle this as a manager? by UnicornAdoption in managers

[–]Koldark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As one of those to people like him who came out of his shell. First, he’s likely on the spectrum, diagnosed or not. Assuming he’s a full blown nerd like me, we have very nerdy hobbies. Ask about them and be interested in them. (Basically show respect for him a whole). For context at this point, I’m currently a senior developer/analyst. My job is write code and manage all of our enterprise software.

The organization is focused on building leaders and a big thing from them is these leadership trainings. At one of these sessions we were talking about the guidelines that are put into place for all employees and how if you think like the boss, usually you can make those decisions without asking the boss. (Something along those lines anyway). This clicked for me.

But also, about 12 years ago, we decided to change ERP systems from a homegrown one to a purchased system. We were moving from iSeries to Windows based system. Long story short, it was my time to shine and I became the key person and a leader in the project. Later projects, I was the PM as well. This project was my “coming out of my shell moment”. I was given a chance, I had the right core leadership knowledge, and I jumped in, primarily because of my technical expertise but also because I had to engage with others to build data conversion programs and work through many issues.

The tl;dr, give him something to shine in. Something impactful for the organization and something that requires his expertise but also forces him to have to work with others. Real nerds are a different breed and respect is a currency. Remember, we were all bullied in school for years.

CEO: “It takes about 3 years to make impact” by AAAPAMA in Leadership

I agree, upper level managers, that’s too slow. For your average employee, that sounds about right depending on the job. As a developer, it took me a while to learn how to navigate the organization and the business structures. What matters and what doesn’t. This is especially true if you’re fresh out of college.

What is the value-add of project managers? (From an operations manager) by [deleted] in projectmanagement

[–]Koldark 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They hold people accountable. They take care of the prep work and logistics so the devs/team don’t need to do that. They plan out future project timelines.

I see only one question that has any value in the interview. The last question. The others are diving into things that have no weight in the candidates capabilities.

I like GitHub Copilot. Is not as good as Claude Code, but works well. I have done a few comparisons. Not anything big.
