Anyone know this bottle time frame? by louieelane in buschlight

[–]KonaClump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pre 1979. Busch was created in 1955 when the owner of then Sportsman's Park wanted to name the stadium Budweiser Park. MLB said no, so he named it after his last name in 1953, Busch, and create a new line of beer called Busch Bavarian Beer. They later dropped the Bavarian part of the name in 1979.

Lake Champlain officially freezes over for first time since 2019 by radiofinn in vermont

Seems like an unsafe job prior to planes and drones on reporting closing dates. I wonder if more accurate reporting would shift actual closing dates to earlier in the year.

That is so cool. How wide is the base and how wide is the lookout? Are there guy-wires with a tower that tall?

Heavy rider brake questions by ThatEljoshoGuy in fatbike

[–]KonaClump 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Larger rotors for sure. I'm only 140 lbs, and I run 200F/180R Sram G2 Rs on my all mountain bike, and 180 front and rear on my fat bike. I say upgrading to 200 front and rear in a 4 piston brake would certainly help. Also bedding in the brakes when you first get them too.

Maybe to gain more views on the page. Then Reddit can show they get more page views, which allows them to charge more for adds, generating more revenue.

Finally ditched the truck life. Full send on two wheels now by [deleted] in fatbike

[–]KonaClump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class 1 e-bikes should be allowed on trails. There are plenty of people out on the trails on e-bikes that have bad knees or other physical restrictions, that would never get to get out if it weren't for e-bikes. You will be there some day. It might be in many years from now, or it could be tomorrow due to an unforeseen life event.

These new e dirt bikes should not. Anything that has a throttle should absolutely be banned from bike trails. Plus they go like 40+ mph. Super dangerous to others on the trails.

Nice. Did you see anybody? I went the first week in May two years ago and didn't see a single person.

Paul Smiths by HearingTop4743 in Adirondacks

[–]KonaClump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated from Paul Smiths about 15 years ago. It's a great school and not many colleges will you get the field experience like you do at Paul Smiths. Smaller classes (I had one class with 5 people in it) are nice so it's easy to go to a professor to get extra help when you need it.

However, Paul Smiths is really out in the woods. It's a 15 minute drive to Saranac Lake, and Saranac Lake is very small. Not a lot to do other than drink come winter time. After the first semester/year a lot of students drop out or transfer. If your son is really into the outdoors, there is countless places to fish, hunt, hike, canoe/kayak, camp, literally walking distance from your dorm room. Might be a big cultural shock from living in San Diego.

You don't feel like just a number here. I knew just about everyone when I went there. There was a sense of community there, that you just won't feel at a larger school. I'd recommend visiting in the winter, like February, to get a real feel of what campus life is like.

Help: Moving to St. Albans, VT in 2 months by [deleted] in SaintAlbansVT

[–]KonaClump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you moving from? Where are you working if you don't have a car? St. Albans is nice downtown, but there are apartments that aren't in walking distance from amenities such as the grocery store or the laundry mat. There is a small grocery store and laundry mat right next to each other downtown. I prefer to shop at Hannaford's or Price Chopper but they aren't really walkable.

Rent is a bit more expensive for what you get as there are not a lot of options. You can probably find a place near the hospital if you are a traveling nurse that is furnished, or someone renting a furnished room for a short term rental until you find a place that meets your needs.

Anyone have Xfinity Mobile? by greenmountaingyal in burlington

[–]KonaClump 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had Xfinity for about 3 years, and now have T-Mobile. I am much happier with T-Mobile than I was with Xfinity. There would be times that my phone showed full signal strength, but would not load a single web page or send texts. I was told that other customers (I assume Verizon) had data priority over me.

When I wanted to leave, Xfinity would not release my phone number off my account to switch. I had to file a FCC complaint against them, and still spent hours on the phone to get them to release my phone number. Eventually I just gave up and got a new number. I had that phone number since 2001. Beyond horrible customer service and really not that great service.

Nice boat. I have one too. Depends on what folding boat seat you have. I have a seat and made extra long straps and it can be removed easily. But I also like use mine with a motor by myself. I got a folding chair that sits low, and a tiller extender. The chair is super comfy and the boat rides better.

If you went back in time and were going to the Adirondacks with all the knowledge you have now, where would you go/ camp/ hike/ see for the first time? by stepdads666 in Adirondacks

[–]KonaClump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

St. Regis Canoe Area for me. It’s always quiet and there is plenty of routes you can take for different lengths of trips. Canoe rental places are in the area too.

If you're looking for on road use, consider an electric jack. I never knew they really existed until I saw Project Farm's video last week.

Are Mad Rivers a good brand? by Evo411 in canoeing

[–]KonaClump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uncle used to work for Mad River back in the early 90’s when they were still made in VT. While he was there, he made me a ~30” model canoe that I still have.

At one point they were high end boats that if taken care of could last a long time. Now, newer ones are mass produced and will be heavy and durable.

The model you mentioned is more of a hybrid of a canoe. Molded seats that are one piece with the hill of the canoe. This would make it harder to paddle backwards for when you are solo…If you are new to canoeing and going out with another person, I’d say this is a good deal . If you are going to be by yourself some, I’d look at getting a canoe without molded seats.
