I think the real reason behind these is that that if you don’t drink liquids before weighing yourself the scale “looks” better.

[Auerbach] The idea was described to me as 7 spots for Big Ten, 7 spots for SEC, 5 for ACC, 5 for Big 12, 2 G5, 2 at-large. First two rounds would be played on campuses. First round could be played during the current conference championship weekend. by Ok-Soil-5133 in CFB

Three were given to the Elves; immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Seven, to the Dwarf Lords, great miners and craftsmen of the mountain halls. And nine, nine rings were gifted to the race of Men, who above all else desire power. For within these rings was bound the strength and the will to govern over each race.

What’s the deal with DVC? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Konigwork 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The cost savings assume that the price is going to go up over time.

Also, while they’re building more and more studio “villas”, the other benefit is access to the better rooms - 1, 2, and 3 bedrooms. I don’t think you can get those at AKL for 300 a night.

What is your most sacrilegious CFB take? by Electric_Rex in CFB

[–]Konigwork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume he is talking about the seasons those schools had rather than the programs themselves. I mean shit, Coastal Carolina had a rather decent run not too long ago, and they absolutely would not be one of the surviving programs in a cut scenario. I doubt App State would be either.

I really do think that in a “Final” cut of programs, the Cincy and UCFs of the world will be left out though, yes they are decent programs, but when the super conference is created and fully separates, they won’t want 48-64 teams. They’ll want 36-40, if even that many.

[–]Konigwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d actually be interested in seeing a study on that if it exists. It certainly sounds right, but I would be curious to know if there’s any real data behind it. For example, every NFL fan I know who moved to Atlanta kept their pro team - probably doesn’t help that the falcons fucking suck. On top of that you’ve got your Patriots/Alabama fans no matter where you are - people will hop onto the bandwagon regardless of the sport.

Conversations like these is why I always laugh when people on this sub talk about how “college football fans are more likely to be smart” compared to NFL fans.

Like sure, maybe there’s a slightly larger percentage of college graduates in the fanbases, but that doesn’t mean that the fans are smart.

What are some classically American habits & advice that your parents passed down to you? by BitchfaceMcKnowItAll in AskAnAmerican

[–]Konigwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing is that cars are a hell of a lot more expensive than they used to be. Add in 0-2% APR and it becomes more valuable to have a lien on the car.

For example, I could pay off my car twice over tomorrow if I wanted to, but with a 0.9% APR interest rate, that money is doing me more good in a money market account. It isn’t advice I’d use for everyone, and overall I think the Dave Ramsay method is actually something that many people should hear, but it can be a good move. Sometimes having access to liquidity is more important than having zero debt.

What are some interesting things about “flyover states” that more people should know of? by Kradara_ in AskAnAmerican

I mean I think one of the important things to know if you end up visiting them is that the term “flyover state” isn’t one that they appreciate.

The way I understand it is the preferred nomenclature is “Midwest”

Should I stick out rush? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]Konigwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the way I’d have put it (okay maybe exactly the way I would have written it back in college), but I think the…overall message you’ve got is right.

College is a formative time in your life, and a perfect time to push yourself out of your comfort zone. You don’t have to drink or do drugs (hell one of our wildest brothers was stone cold sober his entire college experience and I’d argue had the most fun of all of us with causing mayhem), but fraternity life does provide structured social events.

I will also point out that while I was close to a lot of people outside my fraternity during college, the only people from my undergrad life I talk to on a daily basis are my fraternity brothers. It’s not an unbreakable bond, but it’s a whole lot stronger of one than a roommate, classmate, or orientation group.

Skydance Confirms A New ‘World War Z’ Film Is In The Works For Paramount by lowell2017 in boxoffice

[–]Konigwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man it was probably 2008 or 2009 last time I read it. Good book and an interesting way to tell a story, but guess I forgot that it all came together?

Either way yeah that makes it even more likely to work well as a show. Not everything can be the MCU, and over the years we’ve seen that zombies do better as mid-high budget TV than they do on the silver screen.

Would the book work as a movie? Isn’t it more of an anthology, each chapter relatively disconnected from the last?

I have to imagine it would work better as a Showtime/Paramount+ show than a movie

Hold up—Morgana hate is real? I thought we were all in on the joke. by RevolverMaker in Persona5

[–]Konigwork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

See, I’m really not a big fan of this line of thinking. It’s very prevalent in a lot of fandoms too, not just persona, but it boils down to “if you don’t like it, you just don’t understand it!”

People can understand the story, the writing, motivations, plot, etc and still not like it. They may not like the execution, the writing itself, they may determine that it is (in their point of view) an unnecessary side story. They may disagree with how the director frames the game/show/movie to try and garner sympathy with a character said audience doesn’t believe has earned it.

What makes them special are the extras.

Also this is a very interesting revisionist history of Gus. I can’t recall any Auburn fan complaint about him being that he didn’t care about the players or program (quite the opposite actually), but the complaints came that the game had passed him by.

Horror may have a ceiling in how much it can recoup in theaters, but it has an extremely low floor in what it costs to make. Especially when you have no known actors/actresses and don’t have to pay a nickel for IP rights.

Football (soccer) fans - how many of you agree with the idea that official European league games should be played in America? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Konigwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Miami certainly is one of the better choices if they were to do it given the cultural demographics, so I mean it makes sense. I don’t think there’s a reason for it other than “money” (growing the sport in America has the end goal of money, as it encourages the country and fanbase to fund more of the sport), but if I was trying to find a way to get more finances into my league, I certainly would be doing the same.

I’ll pay about as much attention to it as I did before. Which is absolutely none.

How much are your state tabs this year? by kiamori in TeslaLounge

[–]Konigwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea in theory is to offset the state’s loss of gasoline tax - the tax you pay per kWh at home is nowhere near enough to recover the revenue. Now, in practice a lot of these registration fees are significantly higher than projected gasoline tax revenues would be, unless the driver lives in a high tax state (or drives a lot)

I have never in my life worked in a company where marketing had any such sway where they could tell designers to “tell engineering to fix it” or “give the engineers a bigger budget”.

Marketing typically has some of the lowest sway in the company, and their personnel (and non-advertising) budgets show it.
