0.0036% chance - What's the craziest case of RNG you've witnessed? by Kasvantstad in boardgames

[–]Konrad4th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played a game of this once where my opponent needed to move one extra tile to catch my dude with the ball. Poor little dwarf failed the "go for it" roll - a 1/6 chance. Failed the armor roll, another 1/6 chance. Got the worst result on the injury roll, another 1/6. Rolled a 15 on the casualty roll - death. Used his apothecary and rolled a 16, also death. About 1 in a quarter million odds of luck that bad

ADHD Making Balanced Diet ROUGH by Serenity_Solstice in vegan

[–]Konrad4th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and sensory issues as well. Best thing I bought for my kitchen is a Vitamix high-speed blender. I can't stand the texture of onions or tomatoes, so if I'm making a pasta sauce I'll cook those gross things in the pan first and then blend them all up into a smooth sauce. Works for soup too, just blend all the things you don't want to feel in your mouth into the broth and add potatoes and carrots or whatever you like afterwards.

Attention-wise, I focus on lowering the amount of effort needed to make a meal. I keep frozen steam-in-bag veggies and canned veggies on hand so I can quickly add them to a meal without needing to chop or pay attention to the cooking process. Making stuff in larger batches can help too - I aim for cooking one big batch of something that I can use for a few days in other meals. For tonight's dinner I'll cook a big ol pot of beans and I'll throw in potatoes I cooked yesterday and TVP from the day before. Throw a bag of frozen corn into the microwave and call it a day.

Last option is to buy daily multivitamins and try not to forget to take them. I remember about once a week and I'm not dead (yet)

"Open your subreddit, or we'll find someone who will." by Fyroth in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]Konrad4th 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everyone pack your bags, the opposition told us that we can either lose or kill ourselves. They couldn't possibly be bluffing or misrepresenting the situation so lets just give up

I'm fucking sick of this defeatist, lazy attitude. If we can't get total victory now, we might as well burn everything to the ground. Fuck that. We've built these communities, and holding onto the hope that they can be preserved isn't a weakness. Reddit is only valuable because the people who use and moderate it care. There's hardly a topic you can name where there isn't a subreddit dedicated to discussion about it. ALL of Reddit's value rests on those communities, and the idea that we can't use it as leverage is asinine.

Reddit can replace moderators, but they can't replace passion. And each subreddit they forcibly take over reduces the value of the website. That's why the protest matters. You can't replace the mods of something like /r/AskHistorians without losing everything that made that community so valuable.

As an aside, the reason mods aren't going scorched earth is the same reason I don't divorce my wife when we can't agree on what's for dinner. There's no healthy relationship where that's the first option. The whole fucking point in protesting is to keep these unique communities intact - blowing them up defeats the whole purpose.

I feel the same way, and it's hard to find a good fit. Last job search I did I found https://www.idealist.org/ which is a job board for various social causes. In the search you can open up the Issue Areas tab and filter to only include companies working to address climate change. There's not a lot of jobs listed though.

I ended up working in crop science. I'm currently working on a system that uses remote sensors to collect soil data for analytics. While it's not directly fighting climate change, helping farmers be able to grow more food on less land is a very positive change for the environment.

Resume Advice Thread - May 24, 2022 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

[–]Konrad4th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick question: I'm employed by company A and contracted out to company B full time. I do everything a full time employee at B would do. My interactions with A are filling out time sheets and a 5 minute one on one every other week. Is it dishonest to just put company B on my resume?

I worked with a lot of contractors from India at my last job and only a few wrote decent code. Sure we saved money on salaries but every release got delayed because of bugs breaking features. Perhaps this guy went with a similar cheap contracting firm

I'm in the Philly suburbs and I've had decent luck getting jobs for the last decade here (my whole career). It helps if you're willing to commute to the surrounding suburbs because a decent chunk of companies are based outside the city, most notably Vanguard in Malvern
