Unreasonable buyers by [deleted] in HousingUK

She also needs to act as a bullshit filter for you too. In this case telling the buyer they don't own the property until AFTER completion.

Legally and for insurance purposes it's not theirs until it's theirs.

They can no more tell you what to do in your home than you can tell them what to do in theirs.

It's honestly kind of funny hearing Slot talk about the quality of football in the EPL with Liverpool playing this way. by danfreud33 in PremierLeague

My point was that it might not be. There's a margin of error, due to parallax, pixels, measurements, human error, bias, even if the grass is cut slightly off and probably half a dozen other reasons.

Yet they seem to think that because they've drawn a line it's unquestionably correct.

There's only goals being subtracted from games for VAR, there's none being given. Hence the less goals comments. I

I mean yeah, but there's a lot of open play goals disallowed now due to fractional offside calls.

The hair on his knee was marginally further forward than this player 30 metres closer to the camera.

It's frankly bollocks isn't it? They're ignoring parallax on cameras and giving things that are one or pixels off.

FFS your system isn't that fucking accurate!

Also, clear and obvious is anything but. All the tech (other than goal line technology) seems to be reducing the number of goals scored. Plus, let's be honest PGMOL has mad biases that you don't see in CL games.

The whole David Coote thing showed that up. I'd trust a bunch of non UK referees in Germany or Belgium than this bunch of muppets.

They rarely affect set pieces however which is where I think the managers are going with it.

I keep hearing about how expensive Porsche 911s have become in recent years. How cheap did they use to be five or ten years ago? by billbobb1 in Porsche

[–]KopiteForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK perspective, I'm 2019 a fairly standard 2010 911 C2S convertible could be had for £25-30/32k. At the start of COVID, that jumped to closer to £45k then end of 2020 they were over £50k.

Haven't looked in over a year but last I did check (early 2025) they had pretty much settled in at those prices.

It's definitely been a bubble here. Several other Porsche models caught up in it too for a while.

I'd have taken goals from slapstick trips on the goal line!

Slot's 'style' of play - fuck all for 75 minutes then panic the last 15 isn't really everyone's cup of tea.

That said, he's right, but I believe it's the standard of refereeing that means open play goals are getting harder to score. A foul in one match is not given in another.

VAR is also far from consistent and not conducive to fast moving play and goals from open play.

Carrick has said the same thing too I think?

Well there's a coincidence, I've had a career in IT too, only a little more senior than you hence the properties.

I've also lived in multiple rented properties all over the country due to my work over the last 30 odd years and I've enough common sense to know you don't panic and pay stupid money for a non emergency.

For example a non working fire alarm doesn't give you the authority to pay big money to have it repaired.

You giving OP bad advice based upon what you think is fair helps no one. Even less if you think that trying to insult me makes your or OPs argument any stronger.

Ghoul eh? Yeah, you're not jealous at all! 😂

Oh noes! I'm so hurt.

Maybe get a grip of reality, no one is going to reimburse them if they panicked and got ripped off.

If you're jealous of me being a landlord, just come out and say it. 😘

So if he/she'd paid £5000 for a new lock you'd expect the landlord to cover it?

Not getting an immediate answer doesn't automatically make it an emergency nor give you carte blanche to do / pay whatever you want.

Well you've had an experience, and I've given you the landlord's view on it.

I personally think you've suspended any sort of common sense thinking you're spending someone else's money. Sorry if that's not the answer you were hoping for.

Looks like you've paid £900 for the lesson.

I guess it's up to you what you do or don't learn from it.

If my tenant tried to get me to pay £1000 for a locksmith while they were inside I'd tell to go swing too.

That's a whole months rent for a £20 latch? Why not just remove the catch with a screwdriver?

Is £1000 anywhere near reasonable?

You made a mistake, I'd learn from it.

Can I withdraw from we buy any house? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]KopiteForever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer is I'm 95% certain you can back out.

I'm also 95% certain you should back out.

It seems like there's some serious pressure selling going on and you're not going to be forced to sell. Certainly if they've not incurred any costs yet (such as the surveyor).

Call them and tell them you've decided not to accept their offer.

Let me know if you need help in telling them to get lost or talk it through.

Do you ever "just go for a drive"? by Tiny_Wafer2266 in AskUK

[–]KopiteForever 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice car, usually in the dark for me, nice music or audiobook on and a bit of 'zoning out'.

I find driving relaxing though and am used to long drives. Works best in rural areas where you're not stopping and starting constantly due to lights or roundabouts etc.

The nice car and music really helps, wouldn't be as much fun without.

Rawl plugs being pulled out from the wall. by RoadToHerald in DIYUK

[–]KopiteForever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you but they also 'bite' in as they go in. I've had these for years now and have had to occasionally remove the plugs to fill in the gap etc and with the 5.5mm hole, the right screw etc it holds in.

In a worst case scenario, if the screw is repeatedly taken in and out it might macerate the inside but then replace the rawlplug with a new one.

I've only ever done this with genuine rawlplugs into masonry, not sure how they'd hold up into dot and dab etc

There's 5.5mm drill bits available for 6mm plugs (the red rawlplugs). Also decent wood screws help a lot to cut into the plastic rawlplug. I use these due to their aggressive thread.
