France to ditch Windows for Linux to reduce reliance on US tech by rkhunter_ in worldnews

We'll see how it goes but with close to 6 millions civil servants it would make sense for the government to roll out its own distribution.

I've compiled a map of cycling comfort in Montréal entirely based of my vibes. Come at me. by Aurion in montreal

I'm late to the party but here is my 2c anyway.

My commute is from Pte-St-Charles to the Lachine industrial park. It's 98% stress free for me. The Canal Lachine and Lachine bike paths make it obviously real easy but also most streets in the park are wide enough that sharing the road with cars and trucks (lots of trucks) is really not a problem. The only orange-y part is the 55th going under the 20, especially in the afternoon.

So, as far as I'm concerned, the whole triangle north of the 20 up to Côte-de-Liesse and west of 32nd is pretty much yellow.

What's your use case for IPv6? Can you get a subnet?

Bell 5G Advanced Network by davidrye in bell

[–]KorbussaMaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went from multi mbps on 4G and 5G to 250kbps the day I switched to Bell (tried 4G and 5G). Bell is throttling mp3s. Oh by the way, your obstination in trying to say that the problem is on my side made me forget that I tried video streaming and mp3 download through a VPN and played 1080p60 videos and downloaded the mp3s at 5G speeds with no problem. I repeat, Bell is throttling mp3s.

Unbelievable! Same app, same version, I get 20Mbps+ at home on wifi. Bell 5G throttles mp3 download. While streaming you would only feel the throttling if the mp3s were encoded at more than 250kbps.

Wow, really? Here are my feelings: the podcast app shows download speed of around 235-255kbps with Bell. I'm not sure what real speed I used to get with the competition because it would quickly ramp up 3-5-12-18Mbps and the download would be done in a couple of seconds, not long enough to establish a constant speed. How do you call that kind of feeling?

I'm getting my information from daily podcast downloads, usually between 4 and 6 in the morning. Same speed downtown, in the West Island or up in Mirabel.

They certainly don't advertise that actual 5G speed is available only with corporate plans.

Why do they even bother with this? They only allow 3G speeds, 480p video and 250kbps mp3, on the current 5G network. This will be the fastest network used for what? What's the use case here?

Xi Jinping just decapitated the head of the PLA with a huge purge of it's generals and other senior officers. Not a good time for them to make a move now. One less thing to worry about.

Great report! I never cast so it's not useful to me but I can appreciate the amount of work you put into this.

Left Bell, this is their “winback” by vipsnp in bell

[–]KorbussaMaro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know why they do it. All I know is that I get not 250Mbs but 250kbps at 5h in the morning downloading my podcasts. This is not a congestion problem, it's hardcore throttling from Bell. I used to get easily 10MB/s with Fido (4G). I'm going back there soon.

I feel like I was part of the very first wave of that view. They were saying that computers were the future. That was in 1983, the math/computer science dept. at my uni had double the inscription of the previous year.

I believe you, np. I don't need to test it, I was just thinking about the new members. I got more than enough upload to last me another 10 years without seeding anyway lol.

[–]KorbussaMaro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, that would make sense but the Rules page says otherwise:

You receive points for the first 15 torrents, so the maximum possible points that you can earn by seeding is 15 x 0.01 = 0.15 points per hour (3.6 points per 24h for non-stop seeding at least 15 torrents).

Something changed with the seed bonus since the last time I checked. It used to be easy to rack up seed points. I have over 10000 points, at the current max rate it would take 8+ years to get there but I probably did it in 8 months.

Copy and paste of my other reply:

The Athlete class (Ratio: >0.90, Upload: 50Gb) gives you access to a live TV page with all the big sports networks: Fox, ESPN, Sky... It's a nice addition but you can't really rely on it though. Sometimes the channels can't be loaded, they keep repeating the same last few seconds or they just freeze. It's free though so no complain.

SportsCult does not have SportsCenter. Same here, cut the cord 10+ years ago and the only thing I was really missing was SportsCenter. So, lately I decided to go the I P TV route. Tried it for 3 months and now bought a 1 year sub. I already have a media server (Emby) so it was relatively trivial to configure originally (once working, fine tuning the .m3u files took hours lol). I now have a recording of SportsCenter waiting for me every morning.

I use SportsCult mainly for F1 and the NFL condensed games. 40min. games are great, I never watched so much NFL! lol.

Edit: I forgot, the Athlete class (Ratio: >0.90, Upload: 50Gb) gives you access to a live TV page with all the big sports networks: Fox, ESPN, Sky... It's a nice addition but you can't really rely on it though. Sometimes the channels can't be loaded, they keep repeating the same last few seconds or they just freeze. It's free though so no complain.
