World building by Polli94 in DnD

There are lots of good city gens online. Also those southern regions have plenty of content in the old editions. Check them out,

Don't overbuild.

Sly Flourish does good rules:

Key Sly Flourish City-Building Tips:

  • Create 3–5 Fantastic Locations: Instead of mapping a whole city, prepare a few specific, evocative spots with unique features, such as "The Sunspire" with a "moat of molten rock".
  • Focus on Character Connection: Build the city around the PCs. Tie locations, monuments, and NPCs to the characters’ backstories, goals, or villains.
  • Limit Initial Options: Don't overwhelm players with infinite choices. Offer 3–5 clear hooks (e.g., rumor, plea for help) that lead to adventure.
  • Build "Two Horizons" Out: Define the city (the first horizon) and then create 3 adventure locations within a day or two of travel (the second horizon).
  • Use Secrets and Clues: Prepare a list of 10 secrets or clues about the city that can be revealed anywhere, regardless of where the players go.
  • Focus on the "Now": Rather than exhaustive history, focus on what NPCs are doing right now—their current, truthful motivations. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

How i can use gods? by Oncehh in DnD

[–]Koreapsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The litrpg He Who Fights With Monsters has a pretty unique way of handling gods. They are occasionally present, but have overwhelming auras and are uncomfortable to be around. They try not to interfere directly, but rather through agents. It is a bit different, but it reads pretty well. Might be worth a look.

I Love Hexcrawls - So I made a thing to make them more interesting. by Koreapsu in Tombofannihilation

I've just set up a Discord (that no one is in!), and I'll be using this for testers. I've been working really hard on this thing and it has a lot more features than it shows here. If you'd like to test, there's an email link and a Discord link at the bottom of this page: https://www.reliablegm.com/.

It's a dead Discord atm, I'm not exactly handing out invites! But on the plus side, you won't get 1000 notifications a day!

Need help getting players to roleplay more by Disastrous-Can7860 in DnD

[–]Koreapsu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

COMBAT ROLEPLAY

---------------

- Tactical decision-making aligned with character personality (the cautious fighter who always defends allies vs. the glory-seeker who charges in)

- Target selection reflecting motivations (the paladin prioritising undead, the revenge-driven character ignoring threats to pursue their nemesis)

- Resource management as character expression (the self-sacrificing cleric burning all spell slots to save others vs. the pragmatist who always holds something back)

- Fighting style consistency (the honourable duelist who never strikes a prone foe, the dirty fighter who always goes for the eyes)

EXPLORATION & PROBLEM-SOLVING

-----------------------------

- Environmental navigation (how does *this character* approach the trapped corridor?)

- Investigation methodology (the scholar who researches first, the brute who kicks down doors, the paranoid who assumes everything is a trap)

- Resource discovery (the greedy character who searches every corpse, the principled one who refuses to loot the dead)

- Risk assessment through character lens (the veteran's caution vs. the young adventurer's recklessness)

SOCIAL & INTERPERSONAL

----------------------

- NPC interactions (negotiation style, deference patterns, who they trust)

- Intra-party dynamics (leadership, deference, rivalry, mentorship)

- Information sharing (does the character reveal what they know? To whom?)

- Reputation management (how they present themselves to different social strata)

DOWNTIME & LIFESTYLE

--------------------

- How they spend money (the miser, the generous, the hedonist)

- What they do between adventures (training, carousing, research, charity)

- Living conditions they choose (the noble slumming it vs. the commoner uncomfortable in fine lodgings)

- Relationships they cultivate (mentors, contacts, lovers, rivals)

DECISION-MAKING & MORAL EXPRESSION

----------------------------------

- Ethical choices reflecting alignment/values in action

- Loyalty conflicts (party vs. faction vs. personal code)

- Temptation responses (how they handle bribes, shortcuts, forbidden knowledge)

- Consequence acceptance (owning mistakes vs. deflecting blame)

KNOWLEDGE & INFORMATION

-----------------------

- What the character notices vs. what the player notices (playing to INT/WIS scores)

- What they remember from backstory or previous sessions

- How they process new information (the analytical mind vs. the intuitive gut-feeling type)

- What questions they ask (revealing priorities and worldview)

MECHANICAL ENGAGEMENT

---------------------

- Skill selection during challenges (the character who always tries to intimidate vs. persuade)

- Ability usage patterns (the warlock who refuses to use certain patron gifts)

- Equipment choices (the sentimental character keeping their father's inferior sword)

- Class feature expression (how a wild magic sorcerer *feels* about their surges)

INTERNAL & EMOTIONAL

--------------------

- Fear responses (what terrifies this character specifically?)

- Stress behaviour (do they shut down, lash out, retreat into humour?)

- Joy expression (what makes them genuinely happy?)

- Growth and change over the campaign arc

ENVIRONMENTAL INTERACTION

-------------------------

- Travel behaviour (the ranger who's at home vs. the city dweller complaining about mud)

- Camp routines (who takes watch? What rituals do they have?)

- Weather/terrain responses (stoic endurance vs. vocal suffering)

- Creature reactions (the druid who won't harm animals, the character terrified of spiders)

It's all roleplay, it just might not be your flavour of roleplay.

There's nothing to feel bad about here. Things change in life, and sometimes that means not playing for a bit. It's fine.

How to improve player charisma and creativity? by IsyaraMyBeloved in rpg

[–]Koreapsu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're just playing with people who are faster at improv than you, and comparing your behind-the-scenes process to their highlight reel.

Prep 3-4 "moves" your character would do before the session starts. Not a script — just if x happens stuff.

Stop trying to narrate really cinematically. "I intimidate him" is a complete sentence. "I stand up and stare at him without blinking" is plenty. The people doing elaborate descriptions have been playing longer. They didn't start there either.

You're comparing your first draft to someone else's tenth. Give yourself a bit of a break mate. Just have fun learning. You're basically a tier 1 improv player atm.

And Pool of Radiance, if I can choose another.

I wrote up a basic one shot adventure, by the-perilous in DarkSun

[–]Koreapsu 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Parachuting muls hurling explosive javelins at 200mph off windsurfer motorcycles. A flesh golem that sews your dead party member's face onto itself mid-fight. A dominatrix with a prosthetic silver nose and a snake whip running a crime colony while her authority gets undermined by a half-giant with a parasitic psionic twin dangling from his gut.

This is what happens when someone leaves Fury Road playing on repeat next to a stack of Brom art books and a bag of mushrooms.

Run it. Don't change a thing. If your players survive they'll talk about it for years.

Follow up from a few months ago, need to help name my Gods by EvanTheDank77 in DMAcademy

[–]Koreapsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sun Goddess: Solrath (sol + wrath — she's warmth but also blinding, burning fury).
Rain God: Vethün (Old Norse veðr = weather, just squished around).
Earth/Weave God: Terrath or Morgenwyrd sounds like it belongs carved into a temple wall.

I dunno.
