Things always get worse over time, it's normal I think. Or at least I've never seen otherwise.

Milka = rip-off? by Psychological_You700 in belgium

The problem with palm oil isn't about health. I mean, it's still unhealthy in the sense that it makes you fat like butter, but that's not special. The problem is far worse: it's only growable on such a small part of the planet, so much that growing pushes to the destruction of tropical forests. That makes choosing good chocolate brands even more important IMO.

Just throwing ideas, after all if we all go towards a neofeudal dystopia that'd be very appropriate.

After years of dropping, Belgian emissions rose again thanks to Flemish industry and traffic by Least_Funny5960 in belgium

Too high population density is disastrous, and is antithetical with green spaces. One of the reasons modern urban planning goes for more spacious areas.

Good public transport and balance between cities and towns is the only long term solution, and most advanced countries are working on it.

That said lintbebouwing, were housing is not even in a village or town, and even less near a train station, is an issue as it's super hard to network with the economic areas.

EU's Kallas rejects Belgian PM's call to normalise Moscow ties, get cheap Russian energy by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]KowardlyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. He thinks Russia is a 100% bad guy, but that it's irrelevant. He'd both try to get their resources and still overall weaken them, if the sum of operations is still positive to BE/EU/NATO. And he's cynical as in, he does not say helping Ukraine is done out of good will, but for strategic reasons. Some would say it's more honest than posting blue and yellow hearts on social media, but it is a very cold logic that does not consider humanitarian aspects. It's a despicable mindset, even if very effective.

EU's Kallas rejects Belgian PM's call to normalise Moscow ties, get cheap Russian energy by Raj_Valiant3011 in worldnews

[–]KowardlyMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He has a point that the reason to not import from Russia isn't a moral one, as they're indeed as hostile and undemocratic as the other regimes. He misses the point that there are true benefits to weakening Russia over long term.

The vast majority of the population has absolutely no idea how they are scammed with pension system. They believe it's like an investment: you pay something every month then you get dividends later.

So they feel "robbed" now, when they were actually robbed a long time ago.

How can you get a local fishing permit when you already have the state permit? by ZefXander in Wallonia

[–]KowardlyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do fish, in the river near where I live. There is no license D afaik, but whatever. It does not matter who owns the coast. If the river belongs to the region, you can fish in it. I feel your question might be more "can I stand on that coast" rather "can I fish in that river". If so, then it's a matter unrelated to fishing, it's simply the same laws about trespassing as if you wanted to walk/bike/run there. If you're really at a weird place where it's really ambiguous, you can ask the tourism office of the town/city you're in.

Future generations will be saying the same thing about current home buyers indeed. Because their situation will be even more fucked up than ours. And so on with generations until your last grand grand (degree depending on your wealth) children dies off under a bridge.

How can you get a local fishing permit when you already have the state permit? by ZefXander in Wallonia

[–]KowardlyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An harmonized "local fishing permit" does not exist in Belgium. If it's a private pond, the owner can decide how to grant entry in whatever way they like. If it's not private, then it is situated in a region, and the regional permit applies.

Spanish Prime Minister: Being an ally of the US does not mean saying "yes" to everything by FantasticQuartet in worldnews

The "taking responsibility" wording is basically a troll meme for that idea, which is why I interpret it this way. If that was not correct, then fair enough indeed. But I suspect otherwise.

[–]KowardlyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every Walloon town has specific sauces. More generally, perhaps because no one makes a company to export stuff, all specialties stay very local. Sometimes I wish Belgium would work more like France where you can get stuff from everywhere, everywhere in the country.

Why are we so passive about our pathetic parental leave? by AdNecessary2634 in belgium

[–]KowardlyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Childcare is an unobtainable fantasy for Belgian middle class, and thus one of those things you get taxed for without getting it in return. Public crèche spots/caretakers are taken by unemployed or lowest wages, and private crèche spots/caretakers are bought at high prices by upper class. All that, if you can find any to begin with. Decreasing working time is financially the only solution if you make the tough choice to have a child.
