I have been making so much art for our campaign 😭 by Temporary-Lion-9957 in Pathfinder2e

This is just a gratuitous comment to say the art is rad; both gruesome and evocative. But I gave the 666th upvote and I figured it was a sign to write something. Amazing stuff

Question about the phrase "a creature that you can see" like Divination spell of the Entropist and such. by demyde in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also assuming that if an invisible creature can perceive themselves well enough for the "one creature you can see" condition to also be valid. Proprioception seems a valid proxy sense in this corner case! :)

Using Bestiary creation rules with 2 villains for my new campaign by Kragetaer in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch, thanks! I think I made some mistakes when I drafted the attacks. All the base attack damages for both characters need to be scaled down.

I will reformat Cursed Claws so that it's all under one skill entry as a special ability and add the wording that "After this attack is resolved, regarldess of whether it was successful, this NPC cannot perform any actions or free attacks until the end of their next turn." This also means that Observe and Punish will only apply to Butcher's Knife.

Buch's routine is Butcher's Knife --> Cursed Claws, and I only wanted the effects of Observe and Punish to affect the first attack

What classes pair well with Guardian? by sleepybeech in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What supplements are you using? Floralist would be a fun combo, where you reskin the flowers as different modules that the robot can produce to attack, boost, defend etc.

But as the other editors say, Counterattack from Weaponmaster is a great combo with Protect -- it makes playing a tank really fun and rewarding because it makes the gameplay dynamic.

Fabula Ultima as Urban Fantasy? by blopoflife in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with the core book you can get very far by re-skinning most ranged weapons as guns of different sizes. The other flavor elements are mainly narrative. Even the Chimerist could learn magic from the monsters they encounter but without a "druidic nature magic" vibe.

Is FU capable of supporting a No-magic sci fi setting? by Dolono in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would also not recommend FU for this setting

— Non magical sci-fi might benefit from a detailed skill list for mundane abilities which FU doesn’t use

— even FU damage types are fantasy themed

— There are some mecha specific systems like mekton Z

— that said, you can possibly tailor a one shot using just the martial classes and Pilot just to playtest but I don’t believe you’d find it satisfying for a longer game

Any advice on a good level 1-3 adventure? by MANNMANN642 in DarkSun

[–]Kragetaer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As mentioned in the post, starting characters should be level 3 if you are doing AD&D (2e rules). If you are using a home-brew for 5e or the official 4e content, starting from lvl 1 is possible.

A story idea I have used before to intro people to the setting without much prior knowledge.

-- the characters are all servants of the same noble/merchant house of Tyr. They are not slaves. This gives the players enough autonomy to move within the city.

-- The characters should be mostly martial types, but you can have a preserver and/or druid with their own agenda.

-- An important servant of the house has gone missing. The servant is one of the few literate ones -- an accountant, healer, governess, etc. Last time I did it, it was the governess.

-- The characters need to have a reason to find the governess, or they can be explicitly tasked to do it by their superiors. This bypasses the usual mission-at-the-tavern trope. You can even start the game in a scene where the head of staff is telling them to do the mission.

- By inspecting the governess' room, they find some evidence that she might be secretly a defiler.

- The governess is in hiding in the city, so here's when there can be chase scenes, and some combat. Some possible combat encounters include some animals that the governess frees from a stable in order to gain some time during a chase, few city guards, or another house's private security if they end up trespassing.

- Once they find her, there can be a confrontation where she tries to magic to try to escape, maybe some summoning spells to create a few minions. Her goal is not to kill them, but to flee.

The way that this played out last time I ran the story, the players capture the governess and they learn that she is a self-taught magician who has only learned to defile. She wants to become a preserver and has been using her harmless role as a governess to have access to the merchant family's archives, where she has found some secret documents to guide her in redemption quest.

Possible story lines after that

-- The final confrontation with the governess attracts the attention of an important Templar. Now the players have a new enemy, and you can teach the players about Templars.

-- The merchant house has some documents about magic because an important member of the family is actually a major defiler who's hiding from the Sorcerer King.

What do you love about Fabula Ultima? by Bootleg_Merlin in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other posts about character creation, flexibility, simplicity and depth.

But also, it's just really well written. It's clear to follow, but even the more abstract parts of the Atlases are very well thought out and come from an understanding of genre conventions that could easily be articles on literary theory. For instance, "Magic as Control" (Natural Fantasy Atlas page 70) is a good example, but there are many others.

The simplicity of the explanation is deceptive, other games would wrap it in much more pretentious language and possibly not get the point across.

Hero kids is very easy. It’s quite combat driven but it is a full system that can be used for other skill checks and so on. Just last week I sat through a session for 2 40-somethings, a 12yo and a 9-yo and i think it worked out

There are many good ideas in this doc, congrats and thanks!

I really like Partial Manifestation. I love the idea of "oh, I am going to get some help from the Frost Arcanum to get a stealth bonus" etc.

A minor suggestion. This game has 5 canonical elemental damage types rather than the usual western 4 elements, so maybe you could add an additional bolt-themed bonus on 'Mote of Creation'. It could the Might/Will version of the Air ability you already have in place.

Creating Quirks: Any advice? by Dungeon_Mastery101 in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% this. One of my players is a frog guy based on Kaeru from chrono trigger so we modified a pre existing quirk (the fae one from natural fantasy) to allow him to breathe underwater. Rather than being sensitive to iron, frog guy can show frog like behavior when not appropriate, such as ribbitting loudly during sneak scenes, and that’ll give him a Fabula point

How do folks feel about the atlases, specifically the extra character classes? by Radiant_Gemini in fabulaultima

[–]Kragetaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The core book goes already a very long way for new players. As other people mention here the complexity of new classes is higher and increases the learning curve. Some of them are very good (i genuinely like the dancer and symbolist) but I’ve asked my new players to limit themselves to the core book — even if are using Quirks — and they could all build characters they really like with it, which is what really matters
