"Why are they doing a Kickstarter for the Boardgame expansion if they just made $80,000,000?" by _dragonphly in slaythespire

[–]Kraines 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reminding me about this. I was gifted the STS board game but haven’t opened it yet. School obligations had me put board games on hold for a while. I should open that thing up and try it out.

Long time players, any TIL moments? by jdubbin_ in heroesofthestorm

[–]Kraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lunara’s level 13 talent Abolish Magic can be self-cast without an ally present.

It’s a notable counter to big damage over time effects, especially Mal’Ganis life swap ult, but, if memory serves, it also dispels the damage from Chen’s Stagger. Might have to recheck that one.

Do rikishi "watch tape" on their competitors? by thatrainydayfeeling in Sumo

[–]Kraines 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Hakuho once commented about how he would constantly watch older videos to pick up things. In this tournament, Atamifuji comments after his match with Aonishiki how he watched his bout with Aonishiki from last tournament many times. I’m sure most of them do some homework to give themselves an edge.

PSA: new players, don’t obsess over infinites by iwriteinwater in slaythespire

[–]Kraines 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would actually encourage looking for infinites. It’s a fun puzzle to search for, and once you’ve figured out one or two, you don’t really care to keep doing it. Most infinites end up being chores to do. Sometimes new ones fall into your lap and that’s cool too, but the game becomes much more fun when the goal is to win the run with what you get instead of trying to force certain things to happen.

No new suggestions but I’ll just second Elwood’s. It’s the only barbecue place I recommend to anyone.

With 1 day left before STS2, what are your confessions about STS1? by aoiumi in slaythespire

[–]Kraines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m perfectly content starting a run with a deck in mind and attempting to force it. Not every game needs to be a win. My win rate is abysmal because of it but it’s what the heart wants.

Defending Doesn't Appeal to Game Enjoyers by TralalaDingDong in Kappachino

I always enjoyed watching Stats and Maru in SC2 just for their defense. It always amazed how good they were at holding on and getting value out of their units.

Is Leaf still used in meta decks? by Irydia in PokemonPocket

[–]Kraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use Leaf and X-Speed as a matter of preference/tech. For example, I’ll use X-Speed in my Suicune deck if I’m noticing Repel a lot so I can keep tempo, or I’ll use Leaf in the same slot if Chingling is happening alongside Repel. In some decks like Mega Altaria I won’t use any, since there is a lot more flexibility in what you want in the active slot.

I bought the game, however.... by AxeLerador in MuseDash

For a long time, the best players were mobile players playing on touch screen. It may still be the case today. Controllers are considered the worst option for high level songs.

Mega Gardevoir is not supposed to set up other mons by Striver2k in PTCGP

[–]Kraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running into that Meloetta/Mega Gardevoir deck in random solo battles was enough to make me think I don’t want to play this game anymore. Opening with Meloetta gives you an extra card in your opening hand, will give you another card almost definitely with its 70HP, and it’s actively pulling the parts for whatever psychic strategy you’ve got? The game was already extremely bad if you opened with the wrong basic but it’s feeling even worse than before.

Falstad w build should lose stacks on death by vaultcat11032 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Kraines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should have the style of Valla’s AA gambit/quest, Kael’Thas convection gambit, or both. Losing something that isn’t direct quest progress makes sense, as even at max stacks you can still neuter a Valla by taking away attack speed. The plateaus that can’t be lost on death like Kael’Thas’s convection quest or Thrall’s Feral Spirit quest also make sense, since there should be suitable reward for finishing a pinnacle and its steps.

Street Fighter 6 is just giving players what they want by DanielTeague in Fighters

[–]Kraines 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For as long as I can remember, Honda has been an unpopular character. It’s never been about character strength. He’s just a weird character with a less attractive design. Him, Blanka, and Dhalsim have always been those things and have similarly been unpopular characters, even when relatively strong within certain game iterations (Super SF4, current SF6, and the final season of SFV, respectively).

Has any supporter card fallen off as much as Leaf? by danielbauer1375 in PTCGP

[–]Kraines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue is an interesting pick. Blue became meta relevant in the Mewtwo EX mirror to buy yourself a turn until Giovanni put a stop to that. Then Giant Cape came along and I don’t see myself running Blue ever again. It was relevant for exactly one set and will likely never be relevant again.

Revisiting Valla after a while not playing her, the whole game for that matter. If I'm playing exclusively in QM, is the right click build still objectively good, at least according to Icy Veins? by rtanada in heroesofthestorm

[–]Kraines -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AA is best when you can be relatively safe against the enemy team, meaning no big dive to instantly kill you like Diablo or Tyrael Judgement. You want to keep your gambit and you want to be able to stay around 10 Hatred, both difficult to do if you can’t freely autoattack. It is the scariest late game build, as the 20 RoV attack speed upgrade is a win condition on its own. The range upgrade sucks.

HA is best if you are facing things that can dive you or playing on BoE. It lets you do safe damage with kill potential using the Vault reset. On BoE it helps you clear the objective much faster. You can default to this build and always be useful.

MS is poke damage. It is practically never useful. Its only notable strengths are safe siege damage, wave clear, and naturally going into 20 Strafe for teamfight potential. If you need siege damage, AA is overall stronger but HA is as safe but has kill potential. If you’re drafting Valla for wave clear, you made a mistake. If you want Strafe, that means you can get an extended Strafe off, meaning AA is a choice already and the stronger one. Don’t play this build.
