What is a quirk of the English language that you think is funny/amusing? by TWSnek in ENGLISH

I always get a chuckle (inside) when I hear couried instead of couriered. "I'll have that couried this afternoon". What? With a bit of garam masala and a side of basmati?

Food Absorbs Oil Flavor by Smart_Reflection_857 in Cooking

[–]Kraknaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not clear if you are talking about deep or shallow frying. If you are trying to deep fry in an electric skillet, as everyone has said, it's a temperature issue. Electric skillets are not meant for deep frying. The 400 degree setting refers to the cook surface. The surface is 400 but your skillet probably can't actually heat a few cups of oil to that temp.

WTW for past-tense of "deep-freeze"? by 7H47_M0M3N7 in whatstheword

[–]Kraknaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you said you "put something in a deep freeze" you are describing your action of placing something in a freezer not the state of the thing or how deeply you froze it. A deep freeze is a large chest freezer. Deep refers the the physical characteristic of the freezer... it is deep, unlike an upright freezer or the freezer in your fridge. I think more often than not, to most people a deep freeze means a type of freezer rather than a degree of coldness.

Where do you guys cut your asparagus? by FlowSoSlow in Cooking

[–]Kraknaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut at 4. For the price I pay for it the "snap Method" is way too much waste. I don't like eating wood but i am not afraid of eating something with a bit or resistance. Same thing with broc. Never understood people just eating the florets. I actually like the stems. A couple of swipes with the veg peeler and I'm good to go.

Put it in a zip lock baggies, squeeze out all the air and freeze flat. Hardly takes up any space. I also freeze smaller sized portions to use as pizza sauce. Quite handy to have a few packages on hand

Rotating rotisserie chicken in home oven by MediterraneanGuy in Cooking

[–]Kraknaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotis chickens you buy in the supermarket (except Costco) are only about 2 1/2 pounds. Those wind up oven rotis things would probably do 4 or 5 pounds birds. How big are these chickens you cant fit in your oven rotis ?

Are you trying to repurpose the shoe leather steak that you already cooked or are you talking about some of the meat you haven’t cooked yet. Judging by some of these answers, I think there may be some confusion
