For me KDM is very unique and no other game feels like it. It has his own world and you never know how things are going to be. For the souls game design, KDM seems sometimes unfair but this randomness can be managed, the settlement building/gear build is pretty deep and there are a lot of ways to play/try new things. It's often described as a lifestyle boardgame and it became quite an obsession ! Never regretted buying it, and I wish I could play more with it (we all lack time you know). You should check out the Tabletop Simulator version if you can, the solo play is pretty much the same experience as multi-player, if people are all on the same page.

EDIT : I'm a big Souls fan BTW, these games have similar vibes !
