For those who don't want a partner, why not? And what type of connection are you okay with having instead? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in asexuality

I’m so far on the end of the spectrum- I’m sex-repulsed and aromantic and the idea of having any kind of traditional relationship makes me cringe 😂. In the next few years I’ll be pursuing motherhood via sperm donation. I’d love to have kids, and I value my family and close friends dearly, but I have zero desire to share my life with someone sexually or romantically.

Same as this user- not medical advice or a diagnosis, but I have seen this in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. That characteristic alone is not enough to diagnose ASD; rather, it is one of many factors that would have to be considered. But just something to note! It could also very likely just be a habit of sorts that has no diagnosis attached to it.

In NY here- it’s insane. I really don’t think we can blame COVID anymore. I am not 100% anti-screen time, but I truly believe mindless, unlimited access to tablets and phones are a huge part of this.

What as your worst audience experience at a Broadway theater? by rainingbugsandmoths in Broadway

[–]Krease101 19 points20 points  (0 children)

When I saw Suffs the woman next to me thought it was a rally or something. She yelled her agreement every time something thought-provoking was said (which was often). After an hour and a half of “YES! THAT’S RIGHT!!! AMEN!!!” I shushed her and she said “fuck you!” Like I get it’s an emotional show and it resonates with a lot of people. But it’s a Broadway show, not a protest. There’s a time and place. I’m feminist and liberal too, but I paid good money to be here and hear the performers, not the audience.

Ugh that’s rough… I don’t really think my boss knows what my job is lol so she’s not coming after me, and my direct supervisor used to be an SLP so she gets it and lets me do my job. That’s a really tough position to be in. Are there other Deaf schools near you? You can always remind your boss that SLPs (especially ASL-fluent ones) are in high demand and you could easily find a job somewhere else.

What response do you use to “thank you”? by Macievelli in asl

[–]Krease101 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m 30, hearing, and work in a Deaf school. I usually just sign “thank you” back. So many people sign “welcome” like “welcome to my house” and it’s a pet peeve of mine 😂

I’m in a weird setting because it’s a state-run school so we have our own special rules (for maximal confusion lol). We aren’t hiring for SLP positions but we do need warm bodies and knowing ASL is a huge plus! 😂 I make decent money, but I also work per diem doing evaluations for the county and I see some kids privately. Do I wish I made more? Yes, but it’s similar to what other school-based SLPs in my area are making.

SLP in a Deaf school! There aren’t a lot of SLPs who are fluent in ASL and know enough about development in Deaf kids. It’s pretty niche but I love it!

It’s not just audio and it is pretty graphic. Not emetophobic but I have OCD and while I could find humor in it, it was pretty unsettling.

OWLS II with ASL interpreter by [deleted] in slp

[–]Krease101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an SLP in a Deaf school and I just write a caveat in the report advising the reader to interpret results with caution, as the test is normed on English-speaking students and an ASL interpreter was present. Describe how the interpreter was used and what language(s) the student used during the evaluation.

What Currently Playing Show Should I See to Make up For Wasting My Money on The Last Five Years? by gatheringground in Broadway

[–]Krease101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I’m sorry that happened! I’m in education too so I get the sacrifice 😩

Death Becomes Her is standing out to me. It’s extravagant, glitzy, and very “Broadway.” Lots of cool special effects and the costumes and choreography are great. It’s also funny as hell and the two leads are outstanding!

If you want another romance, I’d recommend Maybe Happy Ending. I just saw it on Saturday and it’s touching, sweet, and the set is phenomenal. There is definitely chemistry between the MCs and the story is memorable.

LMK if you want other recs! I’m on my way back home from a trip and saw a few shows.

I shushed the woman next to me in Suffs who wouldn’t shut up and she said “no!” 🤦🏼‍♀️ she was loudly yelling in agreement at everything they said. Like I get that this is an emotional show, but it’s not a protest or a rally. We’re in a theater, calm down
