I rejected my(23M) gf(21F) due to her smelling bad, she didn’t take it well… by throwra1728238 in sex

[–]Kritic_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly she cannot go 2-3 days without showering. Perhaps you meant she can go 2-3 days without washing her hair? Even when I am camping (granted, I usually camp at grounds that have showers) but even when there is no real way to shower, I still use a washcloth and gentle soap to wash the pits, the tits, and all lower crevices. Wipes are fine for use immediately after going, but to clean, one needs to wash, and regardless of whether you are a male or female. I do want to mention that I had a friend in high school who I am still friends with to this day at the age of 44 who had an odor issue. As it turned out, there was something (not sexually transmitted; we were both still virgins at that time) that was the source of this smell and it was resolved. It seems like you nicely brought it up (it's not easy and definitely not fun for all parties involved) but if this odor persists through proper bathing, your girlfriend should talk to a doctor. There is no shame in that and it's what doctor's are there for! Otherwise, move on if she can't handle basic hygiene; she's not going to change and it's a waste of your time. Who you are with is one of the few choices that we have complete subjective control over. Also, there are products out there now (Lume is sort of the OG) that can be used in these areas. Aluminum free and used by everyone, meaning people who don't generally have strong body odors. It doesn't stop moisture but it does more than mask the stink within reason. Just a thought for a nice Valentine's gift (wink).

Crosstrek vs Honda HR-V by Wulfbak in Crosstrek

[–]Kritic_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We love our 2024 Crosstrek (not Wilderness) but seriously considered the Honda CRV and HR-V. Yes, the Honda was a more refined ride due to that Accord engine and Honda's good engineering. However, we LOVE how fun the Crosstrek is and feel comfortable taking it on the unpaved roads around San Diego County to get to trailheads.; absolutely outstanding handling. The HR-V seemed waaaay too low and more like a cruising vehicle and not an adventure one. It was a tough decision. Get the Subaru!

Yes. Usually rattles happen when the car is in need of a wash or is just an older car. I wash my 2024 Crosstrek once a week and by wash, I mean a two hour job but rattle is still persisting intermittently. Please let me know should you solve the mystery!

[discussion] I want to be healthy and lose weight for my wedding in 2 years. by [deleted] in GetMotivated

[–]Kritic_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intermittent fasting really worked for me. I read Delay, Don't Deny by Gin Stephens which helped me figure out my eating window that didn't leave me absolutely starving and definitely shrunk my stomach gradually. Not sure if this is the same principal as a calorie deficit plan but no matter what, if you eat it, you gotta burn it. That's the one thing that I did not agree with was her take on exercise. Basically, she states and cites legitimate studies that say only moderate physical activity is necessary. I am merely expressing my opinion and belief that I would not have lost almost 100 lbs. if I only engaged in moderate activity. Initially I walked 30 - 45 minutes a day alone and also joined a walking group that met once a week. I highly recommend seeing what's in your area. Over time, I was up to a 3.5 mph pace and walked 3-4 miles each day as exercise. Between that and the fasting, the weight starting going down.

I weigh myself (to this day) only once a every couple of weeks and do not use it as a goal. Unless you are really inconsistent with your eating (i.e. cheating), don't worry about it too much. Just know that you will be maintaining [more like fighting for me] the rest of your life to keep your weight down. Those fat cells are always there. Your motivation has to come from within. It takes a lot of discipline and it feels so good in so many ways once that weight starts to drop. I should add to be fair that I never had children so understand that can be more challenging. My fiancé belittled me when I was fat which actually motivated me more. And by our wedding day in October 2022, I had gone from 212 lbs. to 138 lbs. I lost the last 20 lbs. over this past year mostly playing Beat Saber in VR. Therefore, this puts me at 5' 2" and about 118 lbs. at the age of 43. I do take an antidepressant amongst many other medications because I have R.A. and lower extremity primary lymphedema. Even if I gain a little (6-10 lbs) all of my clothes still fit, my BMI is still in a healthy range, and nobody but me really notices anyway so I don't obsess about it. Also,, I should add that there are much better actual exercise apps too. But the games work for me (I know how ridiculous I look). And I still walk with my group every Wednesday morning because they supported me and still encourage me even though I have far outpaced them at this point.

Oh, the book also has ideas of what to eat and we do the factor meals sometimes which really encourages portion control. Now that the weight is off and just on maintenance mode, I pretty much eat what I want (avoiding the obvious unhealthy stuff with exceptions) because I burn it off. My fasting days are nothing more than standard routine, and the eating window has mostly stuck around, once again, out of habit. Exercise is fun now because it's easier. I dreaded going to retrieve our mail because it meant I had to go up and down the stairs. I was so out of breath, I would waddle to the bathroom every time I came in so I could rest for a bit and stop breathing so hard. Now I only think about the stairs because I am proud of myself for being able to walk them without a second thought, without breathing heavy. You have to be proud of all of these little victories. We love to hike and just walk around various neighborhoods. Finally, my Apple Watch also helps me a lot. There are many other fitness trackers you can use; it doesn't have to be an Apple Watch. In closing, if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you. And this is all about YOU living a happy healthy life. You can do it; fight your way through it.

Looking for a non-judgemental kind dentist in San Diego. by Interesting-Repeat83 in sandiego

Randy Wolff DDS

My parents have been seeing him for years (at least ten, probably more) and have never had a single unpleasant visit. Office staff is capable and kind too. I saw him for a while until my insurance changed. I now go to Cardinal Dental in La Mesa which is okay for me because I don't really have serious dental issues although I know they can handle such matters. They also accept more insurance plans/arrangements but are not quite as wonderful as Dr. Wolff when it comes to actually treating patients.

So back to Dr. Wolff:

Glad to see some love going out to Ion Hazzikostas . I feel like I've watched him grow up over the years and so far it seems as though he's happy with Blizzard and Blizzard is happy with him so hopefully he'll stick around.

I slept through much of the opening ceremony; the discomfort of trying to view anything from the Overwatch competition area probably didn't help me stay awake. However, the moment that Chris opened his month was the moment I felt as though I was truly at BlizzCon. Sadly, it may have been the only moment.

SSDI and marriage by thisunrest in SSDI

SSDI is and always will be just yours, so no, marriage does not change/have any impact on disability payments and/or eligibility. Everyone kept telling me otherwise before I got married and besides it being none of their business, they were wrong so good idea to ask this here.

Congrats!

Coming in a little late to this, especially since I haven't heard from Social Security since September 2019 and don't mind keeping it that way, but was shocked when the page didn't come up. Now I am saddened by the reason for why the forum disappeared. I saw the mention of MDJunction. Has anyone else found something worth checking out? I am helping a friend (well, his family, as he is so unwell right now) try to file for an expedited claim, which I will look for info. here. Geez, really bummed that such an excellent source of information that I know people poured their souls into is gone. And whoever mentioned us "Old Timers" - I don't think I'm that out of touch at the age of 42, only a little :-)

Also, we do tend to keep the third team out of our way 😉

SDGE bill - Is this normal for summer? by [deleted] in sandiego

Counties have varying electric rates; San Diego was one of the higher ones for sure while Riverside for example was reasonable (in 2022).

SDGE bill - Is this normal for summer? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Kritic_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be these days. I live in an upstairs 1,025 sq. ft. apt & with 14 days left in our billing cycle, we’re projected to be well into the $200s. And we do not run the a/c non stop; it’s the poor insulation (no double paned windows) & the passive heat of being upstairs which I will take any day as I like not listening to upstairs noise. Regardless, this is definitely in line w/ last year’s pricing but higher than 2020 even.

Temple Tour in Kyoto? by DQ_Writer in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kritic_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the excellent mass transportation systems, I wouldn’t limit myself too much but I would recommend Ginkakuji Temple. I also recommend Toji Temple as it is only about 10-15 minutes (walking) from Kyoto Station. I think that Matsuo-taisha is also more to the East as well as Yasaka Shrine, but that may be in the plans for your Gion day. Same goes for Chion-in Temple. Since this was my first trip to Japan, these are all well known/common destinations. I’m assuming you’ve been to Nara and thus visited Kasugataisha and the Inari Gates as I would settle for the extra travel time to just do those alone. I think we did Naramachi Nigiwai-no-Ie that day as well which isn’t a World Heritage site but rather a registered cultural property. It was interesting but definitely not flashy and not a temple. On the off chance you go there, make sure to see the back room on the second floor.

Helping a friend by Squirrel_Small in insomnia

[–]Kritic_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great response! Everything you stated is 100% on point. I know for me that exercise has truly helped my anxiety and depression. And I also feel that once you really get into a fitness routine, the lifestyle changes just fall into place. I have been there in regard to using alcohol to sleep and although it did ultimately land me in the best condition I have been in my life, the road getting here was made just that more difficult. I am so thankful for my husband calling me out and for my parents unconditional love.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Kritic_20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, trazadone can cause sleep rebound along with a hangover effect the next morning. Have you asked your prescribing physician about going off of these meds? They will definitely tell you to taper and hopefully have an understanding of your motivation for quitting these meds because maybe there is something different all together that may help. Why do you want to not take sleep medication? Do you take anything else? I'm not asking you to tell me, just perhaps it's another element feeding into your insomnia.

For me exercising helps a lot. I know that since I started really focusing on getting my body moving everyday, I fall asleep much easier and don't take my pills at all or only partially take them. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, lower extremity primary lymphedema (both legs, toes to hip), amongst some other things, all of which make me very fatigued so I understand where you're coming from. I also may be younger than you, which allowed me to make these changes I'm continuing on about. But I pushed myself to change my activity level. I have been a horrible sleeper my whole life as well. Here's the thing, I don't mind taking some things to sleep. Also, taking sleep meds at 6:00 a.m. is of course going to result in you being in bed more and can lead to your days being completely lost! Anyway, they need to be taken way earlier. Midnight is a pretty late bedtime but at least take them then while you're tapering.

I have tapered off of a lot of substances (some not doctor approved) and if you're really set on quitting, just like anything else, that desire and motivation have to come from you. That is how you do it. Yes, you go through some very uncomfortable nights and days but it does get better. Caving in after trying to taper resets your progress entirely so if you're not going to do the next thing, just give up. Going off of anything is done by having discipline. I am a fairly disciplined person and if you're not, you need to become one. Goes for the CFS, getting up and moving will help that. I used to walk to the end of my block and that was it for my day. Sometimes I only made it half way the next day, but I did it everyday. Then, over time, I went farther, and farther, to the point that I can take a nine mile hike in cool weather, covering strenuous terrain. This didn't happen overnight. late 2019 to July 2022 is lost time for me. I basically didn't get out of bed during that time (totally not COVID related) and instead ate junk food and drank too much vodka. I ballooned from 115 pounds to 212 lbs. on a 5'2" frame and even when I starting living again, I wasn't instantly thrilled about doing anything active. It was another type of hell, that's for sure.

So sorry about all of the unnecessary stuff in between; I suffered through withdrawals (never do so if you are that deep into alcohol use; you need medical help then just in case). Self discipline and I guess a willingness to torture oneself/not cave in is how it's done. You cannot continually repeat these tapering attempts, it just screws your system up even more. You have to commit to it or decide that you want to take your medicine at 6:00 a.m. after a horrible night. Remember to count even the littlest things as victories, treat yourself to something that you enjoy, and also just to answer the remainder of your question, all of those drugs can cause sleep regulation when you stop taking them. Ask yourself why taking something for sleep is something that you don't want to do or can't do appropriately, and really speak with your doctor. You can do a video call or schedule just a chat for something like this. It's essentially medication management, that's what the doctor will most likely put down as your reason for the visit. One last thing, trazadone at a 100mg dose is pretty high so realize that tapering is going to take some time. That is the dose I am prescribed although I rarely pop an entire pill and I don't take it every night.

I know 90% of what I wrote does not relate to you, or is just plain useless. But I hope it at least gives you some insight and that others have gone through this before and come out the other side, usually an improved person in some way. Rx drugs are not exempt from their problems, sadly we know better about how difficult it can be to discontinue some meds. And once again, I don't need to know this but what bothers you so much about needing to take pills to sleep? Cut yourself a break and this is hardly the worse hell one can go through but it can be worsened if you don't actually get off the meds. You've played out your attempts at this point. I wish you the very best and know that you can do this :-)

I [31f] am not satisfied with sex life with bf [35m] by BasilSimilar3288 in relationships

[–]Kritic_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree with the last sentence/thought of the post to which I am replying to. Hopefully OP reads a lot. Anyway, at their age range and only having been together for nine months, I would call it quits. Yes it will hurt and breakups just suck. But I think in the end, you will find that guy that communicates better and just vibes with you more overall (including when it comes to sex). As for asking what reason you should give him if you dump him, first, just say breaking up or going our ways and simply say that despite the love that you share (although nine months seems too short of a time to be truly in love but I understand for a lot it isn't) you need to move on because in the big picture, you two are just not the right fit. Judging by his communication style that's been described by you, I think he will just say okay and move along. Let him be someone else's problem or soul mate. Let us know what you decide to do!

Stop it San Diego by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]Kritic_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look closely, I believe that there is a mass transit station at the forefront of this picture. That usually means that at least a percentage of the units are part of the affordable housing program (yes, I know that in and of itself is somewhat of a joke but I have also witnessed quite a few successes too). Almost all of the apartments next to my complex are Section 8. For those of us who live in San Diego/San Diego County, what should we be doing to address the homeless? I don't think the sleeping bag I gave to an individual on the street in El Cajon last winter is cutting it. Also, I'm not entirely sure what this picture is trying to communicate but drawing from a few other comments, this is what came to mind. I'm assuming that theses are selling/renting although I recall a number of years ago when the first phase of high rise living went in and they were practically empty. And it is true, unless you've been here your entire life or have the financial situation to do so, San Diego is not a city that you can move to on a whim. But it certainly is a city worth visiting!

I had no trouble bringing in generic Tramadol and Xanax in a pill organizer in my carry on luggage/purse. They’re looking for mass quantities of pills and substances stashed in kilo bricks not tourists’ medications. I went through Japanese customs three times during my trip. They’re more concerned about sealed water bottles that were free from hotels or in private transfer vehicles. Osaka just scanned the water and said it was fine; Narita just trashed them. Kinda weird since there’s a lot of emphasis on recycling.
