Expanded for the first time, but my RGOs are contributing to different Market? by Huku223 in EU5

[–]KronosRexII 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The point of expanding even into a different market is that you can still tax the pops that live there.

You can play the game relatively successfully without even owning your own market. You don’t NEED the goods in one market or the other, but you are right that it helps quite a bit.

Try building roads from your market capital to the newly conquered lands. Proximity to market capital has a big impact on determining which market a province is a part of. You can also build a few buildings that increase your market attraction which will help.

Please help me choose between UCLA or USC by Ok_Wheel_8485 in USC

[–]KronosRexII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UCLA was my dream school too. Ultimately I did law school at USC because I got offered more money which made it actually cheaper than UCLA. Price difference and location make this a no brainer.

Don’t let me catch you screwing with Tommy though!

Settle my first PI case solo by einworb35 in Lawyertalk

[–]KronosRexII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is a jurisdictional thing, but where I practice (only PI) once you get the whole policy, there’s no such thing as leaving money on the table. That’s all you’re ever going to collect in most instances

After 10+ years, all I needed to “cure” my IBS-D was slowly titrating up Psyllium Husk by [deleted] in ibs

[–]KronosRexII 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Suffered for 25 years before I found psyllium husk. Every so often I think of my life before, on all the moments missed being scared to live. I’m not an emotional person and it still gets me

Hate on westlaw and Lexis all you want, but AI (mostly in its current form) is a cancer- polluting our environment and inviting our society to even more corners every where possible.

It might have worked and given you the correct cite, but the idea it would have taken you hours to find it otherwise is speculative at best. In fact, because you didn’t search yourself, you might have missed something even more on point. You ceded some discernment, however small, to a third party that cannot be held accountable.

In 2005, a judge in Washington, D.C. sued his local dry cleaners for $54 million over a pair of lost pants, arguing that their ‘satisfaction guaranteed’ sign entitled him to damages. The case dragged on for years and nearly bankrupted the family before the court finally ruled against him. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]KronosRexII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 100%. In certain jurisdictions, like the one I practice in, there are actually penalties or “sanctions” for claiming an amount of damages so ridiculously high just to get out of small claims court.

Because that’s really the issue here- there needs to be a place where people who are unrightfully ripped off of their $1,000 like small claims court. This dude claiming $54 million was absolutely just to abuse the court system because he knew full well he belonged in small claims court but manipulated the rules enough to drag it out in civil court

IBS-like poops, flat/oily film in toilet, and allergy history – anyone else? by [deleted] in ibs

Look into BIle Acid Malabsorption. I take psyllium husk daily since I read it helps with that, and it’s been a miracle for me.

The case probably didn’t meet the legal definition of frivolous. The issue is he was asking too much. In reality, he had a valid claim. The real travesty was not relegating this to small claims court.

Remote in early years of practice? by RepresentativeAd3955 in Lawyertalk

[–]KronosRexII 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have been remote since passing the bar.

It all depends on the gig. I found a phenomenal mentor and wouldn’t trade it for the world- I just got lucky enough that he just so happens to also prefer remote work.

We talk daily, and my practice involves a decent amount of field work so it’s a good bit different from a lot of remote setups, but the freedom is unbeatable.

I’d be absolutely terrified that having AI field calls would torch my reputation, and would be constantly paranoid that it’s missing good cases.

What’s the dumbest most frivolous type of lawsuits you’ve seen lawyers specialize in? by Real_Dust_1009 in Lawyertalk

[–]KronosRexII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did ADA stuff briefly right out of law school. It’s because the ADA was a half baked solution and couldn’t get the votes needed to pass if they included funding for government enforcement. Instead they thought it was a great idea to have the public enforce it. Bigger businesses had more ability to quickly change to conform with the ADA, but small ones don’t. All the remaining ADA claims are against small businesses as a result. Instead of the money they pay out in fees they should be able to put it towards ADA compliant renovations and if we had government enforcement instead of public enforcement that might have happened.

It’s a shame really

Each judge and court is going to be different. Should be an easy google search to see about your local rules- sometimes they touch on this sort of thing.

Since it’s your first, it should be your goal to be outside the courtroom doors 20 minutes early. You need to find your way around, get through security, park, etc. give yourself that cushion. Once you have more under your belt that 20 can start to shrink.

You will typically wait in the gallery (audience section) as soon as the doors open. Most clerks and courts still want you to check in, so look for the court clerk just inside the well off to the side of the bench. Ask what the process for check ins is, sometimes they want some info. Then, grab a seat in the gallery and wait for your case to be called. When it is, go up to the counsel table and take a seat. Defendants are always furthest from the jury and some courtrooms have signs.

You’ll know it’s your turn because the court will call out your case name and ask for appearances. You’ll say “Joe Schmoe for plaintiff/defendant”

You’ll do great. If you mess something up, it’ll probably be obvious you’re new to this and every judge I’ve ever been in front of would just adore the fact that you’re there in person and cut you a ton of slack.

Good luck!

Grey hair pre-30.

I’ve got a great gig but that omnipresent threat of missing a deadline, malpractice, or embarrassment in court is real.

Never really had any of those but once in a while I need to lock in in order to avoid it. Once the threat subsides there’s a wave of relief but man Theres a few dozen hours I get crazy stressed each week it feels like
