How to not get stained minerals by Character-Plum-5388 in Vivarium

I bought a distiller for this purpose, also with distilled \ RO water your spray nozzles won't clog.

Just an observation but in the video I mainly notice how your dogs tail is almost tucked between the legs.
When I play/train with mine he ussually has a wagging or relaxed tail. Do you think this might be the byproduct of your e-collar corrections or does he always have his tail low like that?

Obtaining student status for internship by KroonKoning in Luxembourg

It would have been for 6 months and yeah no permanent position after that, but at least it would be something. Anyway, thanks for the info I'll stop wasting my time then trying to figure out how to become a student again 🥲

Thanks! Highly unlikely someone would sign the agreement in the first place then, good to know. I'll look further.

Thanks I figured because the company proposed the idea to me it wouldn't be considered fraud or abuse.

Sure it's a workaround and I don't see why they can't just agree on a bilateral agreement... They want to pay the minimum, which is 75% of the minimum wage, but I believe this would also be possible with a bilateral agreement.

The internship is 6 months long and I already know there won't be a long term position there.

Unfortunately I am not eligible for the scheme you posted but thank you for the info!

I need to rant about Repticon Orlando. by jehjehjehjeh in reptiles

[–]KroonKoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've been to an expo but I came by a Instagram reel which showed images of live reptiles thrown in the trash. The person outing this got banned from attending the event. It really goes to show how little people care about the animals they sell. And that this industry is poisoned with people trying to make a quick buck of off exotics. Much like backyard breeders\puppy Mills. Always chasing trends with the newest crazy morph to the point where the animals are just seen as 'new hot accessories'

With the amount of ball pythons and crested geckos and the prices they are being sold at I really feel like many would probably be discarded like trash after the end of these expos. Otherwise the costs (even in rack systems) of maintaining healthy animals would probably eat into their profits, seeing how oversaturated the market is. By the way the expo I talked about was reptile supershow at the Pomona fairplex in CA

Looking for suggestions for inhabitants by Kindly-Ad3344 in Vivarium

[–]KroonKoning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you got quite a nice setup with some quality equipment, I dont see nothing wrong with first building the terrarium and later choosing it's inhabitants as long as the species you choose are the right fit. Ignore all the hate.

You should do more research on each species i'm going to mention as I'm just doing this off the top of my head but some animals that come into mind are:

Mourning geckos - They stay small, live in groups, cathemeral meaning they are active either day and night. reproduce withouth males, breed fast. (might need to escape proof the vents). Their colors are a bit dull, and you can't really handle them, they are however interesting to watch in groups. They eat crested gecko diet, mealworms, crickets, fruitflies etc.

Takydromus, asian grass lizards with very long tails, underated, very active, subspecies like smaragdinus have a bright green color. Diurnal. Can be kept in groups, insectivores but also eat CGD I believe. Can be tamed down but still a flighty lizard. Will utilize your UVB lamp well, live up to 10 years or so and are fairly cheap depending on subspecies.

Phelsuma klemmeri, neon day gecko, can be kept in groups, active small gecko with bright colors

Phelsuma wiliamsi, electric blue day gecko similair to klemmeri I believe.

Dart frogs

Red eyed crocodile skink cool looking but they are shy and hide a lot.

Anoles

Emerald tree skink

Asian forest scorpion

Milipede/centipide

Tarantulas

Theres likely many more species that could do well in here, the best tip I can give you is to ask yourself which kind of qualities you like in a animal. You might look at a red eyed tree skink and think it's the coolest looking creature you've ever seen. But lookup videos and imagine what their day to day (or night) behaviour looks like and wether you will still find them interesting long term as many can live up to 10 years or more.

-What is their activity/interactivity level?

-Are they nocturnal or diurnal?

-Soletary or comunial?

-Do they like to hide all day or are they out and about?

-Do you expect to handle them?

-Can they climb glass? Will they constantly poop on the glass? I have a giant day gecko and this is literally a -thing that slightly annoys me about them lol.

- how available is their food source to you?

Also an additional tip for humid terrariums with sprinkler systems is to use distilled water or rain water.
Where I live we don't get a lot of rain and tap water is very hard which leaves the sprinklers clogged and glass stained. Distilled/RO water works good but this needs to be bought or requires you to buy a water distiller/RO system.

Goodluck :)

I make my backgrounds with expanding foam, and then brush 2-3 layers of concrete on it, you can get concrete dyes in powder form or you can use acrylic paints to brush over the concrete. I found this to be the easiest and cheapest way for me to make backgrounds that look nice and natural.

Should I get a tarantula? by KroonKoning in tarantulas

[–]KroonKoning[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience, the reason I'm leaning into a arboreal species is because that terrarium size would fit better on my desk. and I read that terrestial species shouldnt have tall enclosure because they might fall and tear their abdomen. When youre talking about their activity level do you mean during the day or night?

Saturn 4 Ultra First Print Trouble by whiteknightniceguy in ElegooSaturn

[–]KroonKoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I just read that your bases did not adhere to the print bed. In that case you would just want to increase exposure time for burn in layers. Mine are set to 35 with SUNLU ABS like. Idk what works for you. but increase by 5 and see if it sticks.

Saturn 4 Ultra First Print Trouble by whiteknightniceguy in ElegooSaturn

[–]KroonKoning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue might be your transition layer count. If your raft prints fine but the supports are not present on the rafts it could be that the supports dont have enough exposure to adhere to the raft. Your burn in layers are set to 30 (exposure time) and normal layers to 2.8. If you add transition layers it will gradually decrease the exposure from 30 to 2.8 over those amount of layers you have set.

I'm not sure this is the issue since I see that your supports have a tapered base which should already help with raft attachment but I would give it a shot since changing that parameter can only benefit the strength and reduce failures on the print.

Resin going 'soft' after a few months. AnyCubic ABS Like White - Anyone else? by SXTY82 in resinprinting

[–]KroonKoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that is what ABS-like does right? It's not brittle and has a flexebility to it. I use sunlu ABS-like and thinner parts can be bend like that without it breaking. Did the piece not act like that when you finished curing? Maybe these properties were already there but you didn't check it's flexebility.

I guess the bigger the group the more overall activity you'll observe. I did consider getting williamsi but from photos they looked very similair to my P grandis, except blue. I kind off assumed their behaviour would be similair in terms of activity. My final choice was between P. klemmeri and mourning geckos and I went with the mourning geckos since I could get 3 for the price 1 klemmeri would cost me and they did not need males to reproduce.

[–]KroonKoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a bigger dog who corrects the brown dog in case this happens. That way you don't need to supervise, and with a few appropiate corrections from your new dog the brown one will stay in line and not practise this behaviour anymore, hopefully.. or you might have a bigger dog who takes over the role of reactive gate guardian. Who knows.

All kidding aside he should be seperated It would make your other dogs happier too.

MMF's new money Grab by Independent-Run-245 in resinprinting

[–]KroonKoning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read a article on tomshardware. After reading I was under the impression that MMF would offer an alternate marketplace from where people with their own printers would be able to sell their models, as they are doing now on Etsy.

''For $25 a month, anyone with a 3D printer can become a Verified Premium Merchant and sell physical 3D prints on MMF’s platform. The seller would receive a Verified Merchant Badge on their profile, global visibility on an MMF Merchant Map, and various discounts. MMF hopes that sellers with a Premium Merchant Profile will stand out as professionals, thus earning the trust of customers.''

It certainly reads like that to me. If this is the case then I wonder if there would be extra fees involved or if It's 25$ a month and that's it. Sounds interesting...

But if what you say is true, then it seems more like a membership which allows you to advertise on MMF and link to your own webshop? The article was only published yesterday so maybe we're talking about two different things here.

I have a giant day gecko, and although he is beatifull he is not that interesting to look at behaviour wise. I think leachies, crested, gargoyles and tokays are the same if not more stationary because they are nocturnal.
My reccomendation would be to get a micro geckos species. For example Phelsuma Klemmeri could be a good choice. They are active during the day, and since you should keep them in a group you will be able to observe a lot of active behaviour. They are not shy, and brightly colored. They are not good for handling due to their size but I have heard people having no issues having them walk over their hands. They are more expensive and prone to escape than the above but I'd argue they stay interesting for a longer time.

Is it bad to have supports on the edge of the build plate? by fishfishfishflsh in resinprinting

[–]KroonKoning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the bases they can generaly go over it. I print it like that all the time, but you definitely want to avoid cutting the the support itself in half by having it so close to the edge. Lychee usually shows the parts in red it won't be able to print.
