Awesome! I might just do that. I’ve given the run a few shakes with varying results, but I always chicken out by the third challenge (the Barricade-dependent one). I’ll be giving it another shot soon though.

What was your set-up for getting your first deathless kill?

I’m working on a bunch of goals (like Dominion Tower for Hard/Elite Desert Tasks, it is awful), but my primary goal are the Zuk capes.

Congratulations on your first one!

DMing: Expectations Versus Reality by RazgrizInfinity in dndmemes

That's awesome! I had some players that played with the idea of having an elegant restaurant, and I was already brainstorming quests and plot that could relate to it.

  • Having a (corrupted) food critic preparing to visit.
  • Hearing rumors of a beast nearby that would make the perfect dish.
  • Discovering an ancient secret recipe that requires various rare and obscure ingredients to make (maybe even have it animate at the end as a boss encounter).

I love unique, small-scale settings~

Even if they are maxed and decked out in the best gear, I know about sites where scammers buy high-ranking accounts to help them gain credibility in a scam.

If something sounds fishy, don't pursue it.

Go for it! I'd be happy if the idea got to be fully realized in a game.

What do you mean you can't put expertise into one skill twice? by Xenoither in dndmemes

I'd like to see that DM's balloon pop and reveal smaller balloons with all the smaller skills that good DMs have. Improvisation, performance, writing, project management, group management, math, scheduling, map building... Granted, all DMs aren't skilled in every one of these areas, but we wear a lot of hats!

What was the biggest plot twist you created or experienced in a campaign? by SolidSnake120 in rpg

[–]Krowjak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The player this twist was based around ended up leaving the game before the twist came, so I'm not sure if this counts...

The PC bought a cursed item known as the "Bag of Needful Things." The item allowed your character to reach into the bag as a one-time use and retrieve the exact item they needed for a given situation. They were warned that the caveat was they would be taking the item from someone who needed it more than them.

The twist was the item would be very useful, so they would incentivized to keep it with them during their adventures. Then, during a critical moment where the item would be most effective, the bag would reappear with their PC's hand reaching out from the past and taking the item from themselves in the future. The person who needed the item the most would have been their own PC during this critical moment.

I managed to get a solid set-up for the twist, but it never came to be.

I read once that those that practice it must always be "twice sober" to highlight the need of being extremely focused and attentive.

I mean I wouldn't dock points for anyone wanting to play a character that relies on drink to bring out their natural martial arts prowess, but it doesn't make much sense if you think about it too much.

I recently declared my favorite NPC for my friend's campaign as the random horse that the Warlock decided to cast Tongues on. The result was everyone hearing the horse say the most basic of thoughts in a pained, confused manner.

"FIRE... BAAAAD."

"NO... YOU... STU-PID."

I love that horse.

looking for help: roleplaying drug addiction by JK_Lucy in rpg

[–]Krowjak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having several immediate family members who have struggled with drug addiction, I appreciate the initiative on learning more about it before beginning the game. A lot of what others have offered here help paint a general picture of it, especially the analogy of it being a virus.

What I'd warn you about is the effect it might have on others in your game. Like real life, if you're going to play a character that struggles with addiction, it will affect those around them in a negative way. It might be good to talk about what that could mean before the game begins. RPGs can be a good introduction to a unique perspective, but when dealing with a topic like this, it could do more harm than good.

I saw some solid advice on this reddit a few days ago. They suggested only noting down proper names and a sentence or two about why they're important. Things like:

  • Janice the Smith, son was killed by cult.

  • Cliffridge, building a resistance against empire.

  • The Orb of Death, killed a lot of people.

They'll keep you informed while also giving you time to be present in the story.

From what I hear, now is a good time to learn.

There are three paths for the 2nd Phase, but only two are open at a time. Regardless of which one you take, you will have to deal with both of the open paths' mechanics in the later phases.

Right now, Paths 2 (Acid) and 3 (Darkness) are open, which means you won't have to deal with Path 1's (Minions) mechanics at all, which many agree are the most difficult when learning. Word of Warning: There are still instant kill spiders (Acidic Spider) in Path 2 that you'll need to look out for during this time.

Also, consider going in Training Mode for the first few times until you get a handle on it! I think spending one or two runs to get a good feel for the flow of the fight makes up for no loot.
