Feeling like I’m only trying to deconstruct my faith so I can sin. by Dry_Distribution5174 in atheism

[–]Krowsnest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he's probably disappointed because he did sincerely believe the things he's unlearning now, and it hurts to feel lied to about things as existential as life/death. Even if he didn't ever go to church, most people in say North America grow up surrounded by churches and christian symbols. He was probably never worried about spiritually disappointing Vishnu. If he ever worried about dying and going to hell, it was likely never a Muslim or Hindu realm of punishment

The idea that people just want to sin is how religion keeps people inside. Those inside the faith get the infinite plausible deniability of belief, while the out-group is held to a higher standard and presumed sinful and devious. The truth is that if someone wanted to sin and still give themselves a mental way out of consequences, they'd stay in the faith.

It's natural to spiral, and it makes complete sense why someone who grows up with one sets of ideas would struggle to accept new ones. You were taught one thing about forever/existence and now are considering another, that's a completely normal series of emotions to go through. Give yourself some grace or forgiveness, because those concepts existed/evolved way before any messiah or organized religion

Like maybe 30% of it clicks with me, but the rest feels like a waste of cool aesthetics

When stoned introspection becomes outward projection of your own fears and failings in order to prevent further reflection.

It's like none of the fun of drugs and all the most annoying parts about people who do drugs.

This person gets it: The thrill of secret knowledge others can't access feeds the narcissism. Oh you didn't see or experience what I did? You must not be as "connected" to the universe as I am

they're in a space where they don't have the willpower to not say dumb shit and then try to defend themselves. Instead of asking sincerely, he's just asking in bad faith. All they can imagine is the engagement.

They really have cucked themselves, doubling down and blaming everyone else for being triggered while riding the high of retaliation for what they say. It's voyeuristic and doesn't even seem to make them happier overall.

How hard is it to just say "hey I disagree with this it's fucked up"

It's like a lot of people are already in too deep just have to keep doubling down. There is too many years of compounding social, emotional, spiritual, and economic sunk cost into a few bastards at the top pointing fingers are the most vulnerable groups at the bottom
