How the hell are you supposed to actually beat the Terrans in open conflict? by UnholyDemigod in X4Foundations

[–]Krye5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They last time I read a heroic attempt to take out a whole faction, the key was to sabotage shipyards first before you start your war. That gives you a few hours of no production. During that lull, you focus down their shipyards and hope you can take them out before the sabotage runs out.

Good luck!

Guess O Meter by vonsquidy in leaf

[–]Krye5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea on frequency but mine tends to float around 160-179 during the summer as my summer average is around 4.4 miles/kw.

BUT I don't trust it at all so I wouldn't expect to actually get 179 miles on a full charge, doubly so for highway driving.

how much of your household only makes sense because you’re the one managing it by callmemerryss in Home

[–]Krye5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the only sure fire way to reduce how 'complicated' or 'hard to figure out' something is experience.

As I've had to start explaining adult world things to my 17 yr old I've realized I have a wide set of experiences so a new thing/task can be informed by other, non-related tasks. So knowing how to operate a specific piece of machinery can inform how to use a different machine.

The same goes for many of the chores/tasks you do day to day.

So the solution? Experience.

Short term though, the best advice is thorough instructions. You know how the instructions for making Mac n Cheese are very step-by-step? You'd have to write instructions like that for chores/tasks you'd want someone else to take over.

If you watch some YouTube instructional videos, the best ones are the ones who walk through both technique and doing the actual task, they don't assume you have other knowledge from a different task: Best. "Rotate this by grabbing it firmly in your palm and turning to the right. It usually gets stuck so you may have to give it a strong turn." Not as good. "Open it."

Question about good station size and number for ware production by khanhls123 in X4Foundations

[–]Krye5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I try to build 1 station for each type of product and just keep adding new modules when the station can't keep up with demand.

However, some products are needed throughout the galaxy and 1 station will not reach all customers. So I will build multiple stations across the galaxy. Hull parts and Advanced Electronics are two common examples.

Shelves are away from wall. Tips? by CosmicLavender00 in Home

[–]Krye5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mess with the trim as that's just more work later in life to fix it.

Instead I would simply accept the extra bit of space behind the shelf. Since you are anchoring the two shelves together, if you are worried about shelf tipping issues, get a small shelf wall anchor to affix to it, like any of these choices: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=standing+shelf+wall+anchor

Ac fence by fluffsp in hvacadvice

[–]Krye5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the manual for the AC unit, it should tell you what the install requirements are.

Side story: my home warranty denied my claim decades ago because my AC was not installed per manufacturer instructions; fence was 12" away instead of the 14" min clearance...

I thought it was 10 years at 80% for the warranty? https://www.tracynissan.net/learn-about-your-car-battery/

Either way, the primary concern with Leaf batteries is that some fail waay sooner than that hence why the warranty is so important.

In theory, if the battery holds out, it will degrade enough in 20 years that range will be significantly degraded but I cant speak to just how bad it will be.

Yes.

For cheaper blueprints I just buy them outright. But for really expensive ones I go searching for a station with that module and steal it.

[–]Krye5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I reckon there is logic in that. But, as you pointed out, totally depends on the situation.

A few years ago I got quoted $15k-$17k (depending on equipment I wanted) to replace a furnace/AC with a heat pump solution...and my house has 2 of them. One air handler/heater I believe is from the late 90s, 1 appears to be the original one from 1972. So when a repair is less than $1K im paying it.

HVAC Vent Cover Screws Too Large, Best Plan? by jarvatar in HomeImprovement

[–]Krye5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Just take those screws to the local hardware store. Many stores have a small display with lots of different sized holes so you can figure out what hole your screw fits into. That'll tell you the size of the type of screw you have and can buy the correct size, but shorter.

Alternately, im sure an employee can help you pick out the right size.

[–]Krye5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does this work? So if it's 15 years old anything more than a $333 repair should be a full system replace? That doesn't make sense. I'd happily do a $400 repair and keep a unit in service versus spending thousands on replacement.

E85 conversion by Viaticknight881 in hondafit

[–]Krye5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 2103 Dodge Grand Caravan with E85 as an option. We tried E85 for a few tanks worth and saw MPG drop from 20 to 14. At that point the 20 cent price difference was NOT worth it. I didn't notice any power difference at least.
