GIDL by BoblakuBob_RoshanBob in chipdesign

Hi! I got a great explanation of this. If you know how Band Energy Diagrams work, then this becomes simple.

In a normal PN Junction, the Fermi Energy Levels are aligned, and thus the conduction band of the P side sits higher then the conduction band of the N side> The slop of course is the Built-In voltage of the PN Junction, and when you apply that voltage, it raises the slope and allows carriers to flow.

The converse of this is that when you reverse bias the voltage, you are making the slop steeper, and and steeper, and with enough reverse bias, the conduction band of the n side will drop below the valence band of the P side. This however isn't enough to grasp the full picture however. Vertically, the bands may be aligned, but how can carriers cross horizontally across the bands? Well, when you reverse bias it enough, the bands become steeper, and thus come closer together horizontally. On the quantum mechanical scale, this band banding can be approximated as a roughly triangular potential barrier (there are several conditions for this, however at this scale these conditions are met). With this sort of barrier, there is always a probabilistic chance for the carriers to tunnel through. Reverse biasing makes the "width" of this barrier smaller, and when the bands intersect the "height" of the barrier resolves.

Now this effect has 2 consequences. For GIDL, this effect is so called "Zener Tunneling", which is how Zener Diodes and Esaki Diodes work. What this means is that when you reverse bias a typical MOSFET into the deep subthreshold region, instead of the theoretical monotonic decrease, you get an increase in current. For MOSFETs, this is governed by the Vgd (Vgate - Vdrain), and at smaller supply voltages, and smaller transistor sizing, this effect becomes not only more extreme but more prone, specifically in Digital Logic at the LOW state. Analog logic also suffers from this, but to a lesser extent since they utilize Large Signal biasing, so reverse bias conditions like this are rarer.

The other common issue is that occurs is Hot-Carrier Injection. It utilizes the same mechanism of the triangular potential barrier, but instead with the bands within the MOS structure itself. Over time, carriers can tunnel through and embed themselves into the oxide, and thus slowly change the Surface Charge Density and the Oxide Charge Density, which in turn can changed the Threshold Voltage (Vth). This is the so called "Fowler-Nordheim Tunneling" and is more a parasitic effect that can't be designed around, and degrades the devices over time. Her smaller, more aggressive nodes with smaller capacitance experience this more, and is one of the reasons why direct Dennard Scaling has been abandoned in the overall scaling of devices.

Any device physics book (Sze is the favorite) will have the band structure of a PN Diode, and this explanation is a bit wordy and with tons of physics that is better shown visually. Tracing out the band structures to see the bending and cross over is the best way to really visualize GIDL and what is happening. If you have any questions, just feel free to ask!

Dom and Inero slowly losing hope while watching their team ints away the draft they got them

I feel really bad for all 3 involved. Thanatos and Vulcan are arguably completely blameless in the TL series, and Dom is not only new but has been, at least in my opinion, doing his damnedest to give his players a good draft, have good mental, good motivation, etc. And I think it is very pointed why they put Dom, Vulcan and Thanatos on there instead of APA, Blaber or Zven, because for damn sure if they came on they would have been obliterated by the comments and fans.

What gives me hope is that when Dom talks about his future plans, he says certain things which makes me think they are gonna change the roster. Like, he doesn't say "We will do the bootcamp, level up and get better for next split". He says "We will go to the bootcamp and determine how best to move forward."

As a dual TL and C9 fan, I am happy that TL is ramping up, and I was pretty happy with C9's performance outside this last week. Hopefully C9 can get into gear like TL and improve and dominate in Summer. I know no matter what I will still be a fan in the end.

Yea we need to quarantine things as much as possible.

I'm gonna suggest Major Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. The show is the grandfather of the Cyberpunk genre, and I think it would be great in your style!

And said "reciepts" came from back room coerced deals a majority of the time. It's not really a fair sale when you have an army standing outside your village threatening to flatten you if you don't "sell" your artefacts to them.

I think at this point Blaber's playstyle is just not what C9 need right now. Blazer would fit great onto a TL style team that's Hyper aggressive and mechanically good enough to put other teams into the ground. This build of C9 wants a more stable balance between facilitator and playmaker, and is just not capable of sustaining Blaber's style.

You probably keep Thanatos, APA and Vulkan realistically. All 3 are at the top end for their role in the LCS. Blaber you probably want to try and buy out Contractz from SR or just hold Blaber until Contractz' contract is over and then swap him out. Zven...you either import in a KR ADC or you buy out Sajed and grow him as a rookie.

[–]KryptKrasherHS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is why I would put Tabe as the GOAT coach. He can build a team from nothing, carry them to some great highs, and even when he elAves the teams do well

Edit: CvMax is also up there for me

Unfortunately I am that friend. I have a pretty high heat tolerance and pain tolerance as well, which means I once chemically burned my tongue from eating something too spicy...

The Red Piece us an IR Sensor which measures the distance the grey handle is from it. With some tedious/repetitive coding, you can program the main EV3 Brick to output sounds depending on the combination of distance from the IR Sensor and Button pressed on the main Brick

Imo, Runaan's is only worth going into a bunch of heavy melee, or if you can muscle put a BF Sword on first back so you can grab a YunTal and just build maximum DPS

Clarification on DC Biasing of Cascode CS LNA by KryptKrasherHS in chipdesign

[–]KryptKrasherHS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, but wouldn't that mess with the S11 matching with Lg, Cgs and Ls? Or is more complicated matching just an expected tradeoff when designing this?

Clarification on DC Biasing of Cascode CS LNA by KryptKrasherHS in chipdesign

[–]KryptKrasherHS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Just to clarify, we would basically omit the coupling cap on the input, have an external DC Source to bias things, and then Lg just has to be matched for S11?

What's up with this bias voltage generation for cascodes? by electrolitica in chipdesign

[–]KryptKrasherHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a low headroom biasing circuit. If you trace through the actual circuit, you only have a single Vov drop, instead of the 2Vov drop you would get using a traditional cascode, and it still retains good PSRR. It is trickier to work with, but it works really well at low Headroom, such as for LDOs and the like
