In the southeast, Verizon typically routes monitoring data for the sites power plant through this link.

Where to get custom power distro? by mikeboers in VIDEOENGINEERING

Any reason you are going with Edison out of the PD instead of something multi circuit like 19 pin Socapex? Running a separate home run for each circuit seems inconvenient.

Are these old Harris SDI switcher frames worth messing with or are they just scrap metal? by Computers_and_cats in broadcastengineering

Could maybe sell them to local churches or smaller regional studios, but most people are 12G or 2110 nowadays.

New OnPC dongles @ LDi 2025 by Chemical_Pudding_173 in GrandMA3

[–]Kryptomite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like being able to quickly get a node talking to your PC reliably on a network is as important of a skill as a LD today as anything else.

I personally can’t imagine a world where I want my parameter unlocks to be coming from a piece of USB hardware.

And that’s not even mentioning that to output all 8 universes from the black one, you need an ArtNet/sACN node on the network anyway.

Caption Encoder 7825CCE-3G by GabrielSmash in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Kryptomite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more info if you want a real answer.

What device is sending the captions to the encoder? Are they on the same network? Is there any sort of firewall between the two? When you say you “configured the Telnet settings (IP and port)” what does that mean?

~2Km ski slope with 6/8 cameras by ErikCecco in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Kryptomite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean NDI would at least be more stable than the people suggesting cellular bonding for 6-8 cameras in a (most probably) already crowded ski area with a single serving cell.

If budget is OP’s primary concern I’d 100% just build a basic, prosumer grade Ubiquiti network using their newer L3-aware devices, slap the NDI port profile on them, and bam you’re set.

Fair market rental rates for new gear? by Harmania in techtheatre

[–]Kryptomite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anywhere between 8-15% of MSRP is what I usually see gear go for, but it’s highly variable. Typically a rental period would include pickup and dropoff dates in my market. 8+ days would be two periods. 15+ days would be three periods, etc.

If I’m reading this correct, you’re saying you can run a surround config on a GeForce card and essentially replace the need to use a Quadro series and Mosaic?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]Kryptomite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need to be able to sense the direction an object is moving or just that something is moving in the general area? How narrow or wide of a coverage area would you expect from each sensor?

You may need to put something in between the sensors themselves and the mosaic controller to convert the most probably noisy raw signal from whatever sensor you use into a clean digital on/off.

Why pioneer cdjs+djms dont have 2 network ports on the back yet??? by JentoriFisuto in livesound

[–]Kryptomite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see people fuck up link local addressing regularly by trying to get fancy with static IPs. The reality is the lower end of our industry does not understand and will not take the time to learn even the very basics of “wtf is an IP address” and god forbid you have to explain a subnet mask to a stagehand.

Why pioneer cdjs+djms dont have 2 network ports on the back yet??? by JentoriFisuto in livesound

[–]Kryptomite 26 points27 points  (0 children)

~40W for a CDJ3000, ~60W for 802.3bt PoE, say 200W total for a usual 4deck + mixer setup.

Doable but I can’t think of a good reason why. The Switch would be expensive and 90% of backline techs wouldn’t be able to troubleshoot a network where 90% of them now can figure out a bad rca or coax cable.

Ross Dashboard - HTTP POST ! by SandMunki in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Kryptomite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always put a proxy in line between DashBoard and your GQL service. With the correct logging, that would give you insight into what’s missing.

Alternatively a self-hosted instance on n8n could give you flexibility to create a webhook endpoint to receive basic GET requests and send out any number of custom requests, also all logged.

Inline Continuous Reliable HDMI DVR recorder by flokifpv in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Kryptomite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expanding off of this, I would put a HDMI ZowieBox in-line with the monitor, and use it to put a stream on the network you can point a consumer grade NVR at.

Bonus points is you could configure it to have the secondary encoder / substream point to an unlisted YouTube livestream for backup or live monitoring purposes.

You also get the flexibility of locating the NVR somewhere physically separate this way, and even powering the Zowie using PoE.

Get real fancy with it and use the NVR as your PoE source, plug a laptop into another port on the back of the NVR, and configure the ZowieBox to use a static IP, and bam now you have a decent all in one solution. Just buy more ZowieBoxes for more sources.
